Frank Lloyd Wright House the In Ebsworth Park

This home was remarkable. The tour was slow, but if you want to listen to the details behind who made what and why you will enjoy just standing there and listening. The grounds are beautiful. If you live in the St. Louis area it’s worth the $ 10 visit. This home is like nothing I’ve ever seen — we are so comfortable now in our homes that all look the same — this home was fresh air.

Wow! This place is fascinating. I can’t believe people actually lived here! The «art» of the architecture came first, living comfortably didn’t even come in second. I’m pretty sure it didn’t even make the list of concerns.
That being said, I’m really glad that I got to see this place! I love architecture, so this was a great place for me to visit. It’s always good to learn about forms of art that have different views from your own — different concepts of beauty. It’s like experiencing a different culture.
Our docent was very knowledgeable and seemed happy to answer all of our questions. I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in history, art or architecture.

Short version: I would recommend coming to check it out if you haven’t been. I enjoyed my experience, but I probably wouldn’t come back because once is enough to see everything.
Not-​so-​short version:
So I really don’t know a lot about architecture, but I’ve been to two or three Frank Lloyd Wright houses before and I know he’s sort of a big deal to some people. My sister really likes his work, so when she visited me in St. Louis, I made reservations for us to tour this house. (Make sure you call in advance to make a reservation; it’s required.) It costs $ 10 per person, paid in cash.
From the drive up and the first glimpse of the house to the original furnishings inside the house, I enjoyed the experience a lot. The property is gorgeous and it was so interesting to hear the history of the home, FLW’s philosophy for building houses and its relationship to materials and nature, and to see the great condition of the home. Unfortunately, I don’t have any photos of the interior (you’re not allowed to take any of the inside).
We had a very knowledgeable docent; I think her name was Pam. She answered a lot of our questions and pointed out fun details about the house.
Like I said, I most likely won’t go again (unless another person who loves FLW comes into town and wants me to accompany them on a tour), but I would definitely recommend it to other people who haven’t seen the house yet. It’s a really cool piece of history and a unique structure.

The inside of the house is a «WOW!» This is a tour well worth taking. You must call to make a reservation. They only take 10 people at a time.

I am really sad that I couldn’t get in for a tour to this place. You should call in advance, because even if the answering message states that they are open for tours Wednesday-​Sunday, they might not have a tour one of these «open» days, and are therefore technically closed.
However, I did get to see the exterior of the house. I don’t recommend trespassing, but since there was no sign or barbed wire… anyway, I got great photos of the exterior and saw enough to know that I want to come back for the authorized tour someday. The house is a mid-​century vintage prairie-​style home. It has a triangular plan; triangles are definitely the concept here as they appear in the roof and patios too. Some of the windows are original stained glass, others look like they were used to shoot arrows out at invaders. (There were no invading hordes that day, just two perspiring design tourists with digital cameras). It is very well restored and preserved.
If you are a big Wright fan, I recommend coming here. No, it’s not as impressive as Falling Water or Taliesin, but it is a very thoughful and awe-​inspiring design nonetheless.
