Frontenac Salon & Spa

I got my hair cut here once. I actually did like the cut/​style even though the salon was a bit dilapidated. I have called and tried to get back in, but they don’t answer their phone. I have left three messages to call me back. So frustrating. I do not even want to go back now. Not professional.

Whatever you do, STAY AWAY!!!
If i could give this salon 0 stars, I would. I have always kept my hair short, but the last couple of years, I have grown it long. I went in to get it cut back to my usual just-​shorter-​than-​shoulder length style. I showed the stylist multiple pictures of myself, at the length I wanted, both curly and straight. I stressed to her that I wanted to be able to wear my hair straight and curly. She assured me that she could make it look ‘great.’ Well, she failed. I walked out of the salon with a jaw-​length A-​line cut, shorter on one side. Awful, awful, awful. I walked out of the salon and immediately started crying. I went home to straighten it, hoping it would grow on me, but it just got worse. The back is SO choppy, with awful, blunt layers, and there is a whole section that is just missing. Im honestly so embarrassed, and I can only pray that when I travel back to visit family in Utah this fall, my old stylist can find a way to make it look a little bit decent.

For a location in Frontenac, this place is LOW class. The owner is a rude, crazy, ugly woman with a crap attitude towards anyone without «enough» money to meet her standards. Overheard her talking with other employees as I was having my hair styled, and was appalled at her lack of discretion and rudeness. (She was talking badly about a client coming in for a service later that day, calling her names like «cheap» «trashy» and «wanna be Real Housewife» and others I won’t go into. I’m not even that nosy, she was THAT loud.)
The front desk waiting area is tiny, and crowded full of crap. The front girl was polite but aloof. More interested in texting someone apparently.
I got a haircut here by Casey, which was highly overpriced (even though I had gotten a gift card). She seemed uninterested in what I wanted, and kept pushing styles I didn’t like, and tried to convince me to add color and highlights! I just needed a haircut! Very pushy with their products.
I asked for a tour of their «spa». Small, outdated, and didn’t look particularly clean, very dingy.
I would avoid this place like the plague.

A couple of years ago, my sister and I got some sort of gift cards with different services for Frontenac Salon in them. We started out with facials there. The facial was good, we were both pleased. Not exactly the full spa-​like atmosphere I would prefer when getting a facial, since the bulk of their business is the salon.
I later went back to get my hair done. Two years later, Casey is still doing my hair, and I’ve been transformed into a «Curly Girl!» She has been a wonderful teacher in showing me how to make what I used to think of as annoying «waves» turn into bouncy curls! I now wear my hair naturally curly about half the time, and finally feel like my hair is growing and healthy! Deva products use no sulfates or harsh chemicals and once you are rid of «lather addiction» they really are great! Sometimes I go in and need a refresher on technique, and Casey will always go through the process with me.
As would be expected from a salon in Frontenac, the services are definitely on the costly side. But, I’ve always felt that hair is not something to cheap out on! My husband sometimes gasps when he sees the bill… but being beautiful doesn’t come free! ;)

So I did a funny thing a couple weeks ago. I cut off my shoulder length, chemically straightened hair really short. Like, 3-​inches-​all-​around short.
The plus? I revealed a mop of naturally curly hair that I LOVE.
The downside? Well… it was pretty uneven, and there were a few straight pieces in the back that I didn’t get. Did I mention I did the initial cut myself? Okay.
So I went to Frontenac Salon and Spa. They have a few stylists that specialize in cutting and styling curly hair (they specialize in the «Deva» cutting method), and after doing a lot of research, I decided to book with Jamie.
She was SUPER friendly. She told me exactly everything she was doing, exactly what products she was using and how to use them — and she did all of this without trying to push products on me to purchase — a huge plus. She even offered me tea while I was sitting underneath the dryer!
The salon offers a half off special on Tuesdays for new clients, so I was thrilled. My haircut, deep conditioning treatment, and style came to only $ 40, which seemed reasonable for the level of service I received. I would DEFINITELY go back. This place was awesome!
