My favorite theater in St. Louis! Great prices on tickets, drinks, snacks, and a lovely atmosphere to boot!

My favorite theatre in all of St. Louis. The tickets are average price but the snack bar is super cheap! Beer at the same price as you’d pay at a bar. Popcorn at a third the price you pay at a typical theatre. They even have Ted Drewes single serve cups! The movie watching experience is also really cool because they maintained much of their old style, complete with a curtain over the screen until the show starts (which means, no advertising to you before the movie, only the trailers and feature!)

We recently saw the newest Star Wars movie here and as usual the Hi-​Pointe Theater made this an absolutely amazing experience. My husband and I love attending this theater because the seats are comfortable, it has that old movie theater charm, prices are amazing on the tickets ($ 9.00 for an 8 pm show! $ 7.00 for a student ticket!) and concessions, and the staff is always friendly and helpful. They have done renovations to the inside of the main theater and it looks beautiful, while they have also added a second smaller theater which I have yet to see but if it is anything like their main screen it will be amazing. I would highly recommend taking in a movie at the Hi-​Pointe as it is a staple in St. Louis and supporting local business is a must!

I love this vintage theater. It’s beautiful, historic, has delicious popcorn and serves wine, beer, and cocktails. The new screen at the backlot is a wonderful theater in a renovated loft space. It only seats 40 – 50 people and the vibe is contemporary and intimate. Best place to see a movie in the city.

2 theaters in 2 separate buildings so check beforehand where to go.
There is a parking lot next to the «Hi-​Pointe Back-​Lot Theater» building that is directly behind the original Hi-​Pointe. (Parking has always been a problem)
The larger front building was newly renovated, but the movie was showing in the other building.
The Back-​Lot theater up a flight of stairs or riding the elevator. You can grab a soda, beer, cocktail &/​or snack at the bar before heading back to the quaint 50 person theater. The seats are vinyl & not as comfortable as the newer chase lounges at other theaters.
HOWEVER, this place shows more independent and cult classics than the larger studio based theaters.

WOW! As if the Hi-​Pointe were not cool enough, the very cool owners added on a second theatre, The Backlot, that seats about 50 audience members in luxurious, reclining comfort. The screen and the acoustics are perfect. It is located in back of the original theatre, has its own parking lot and is easily accessible, with ramps and a «lift» instead of an elevator, very European, quiet and smooth. The lobby is tasteful and unique – look at the lamps! Our hats are off to the Hi-​Pointe family for believing in St. Louis city. Thank you!!!

The recently opened their Back Lot Theater, if you can get past the fact that you need to climb two flights of stairs. Once you are upstairs, the vintage movie posters greet you along with a huge chalkboard menu. Of course still a bargain for a new release $ 5 for afternoon matinée. It is such an inexpensive place to see a new movie and have some popcorn, or soda, or beer or wine… This place still rocks.

Very friendly service at a nice theater. It may not have the fancy reclining seats or bright lights of a boring AMC chain, but it has a hell of a lot of character. Nice to support a small independent theater

This place is so cool. The theater is nice (on the inside). The concessions are cheaper than the movie theater chains. GREAT selection of beer. The staff is terrific — kind, quality service, they LOVE movies… they’re the best movie theater staff that I have ever experienced. If I have a gripe, it’s that I didn’t see any restaurants or bars within walking distance besides the fast Chinese restaurant.

Gosh I just love this place. It’s got old school charm and the décor is adorable. Everyone here is friendly and passionate about movies. The best part is you can see new releases for $ 5! The snacks & beverages (including beer & wine) are inexpensive too. Can’t say enough good things. I always check what’s playing here before going to one of the big chain theaters. Dear Hi-​Pointe, please stay open forever!!!

Love the Hi Pointe! Between reasonable ticket prices and fun movie events, this theater is the best. I didn’t answer whether this theater is good for kids, because it would depend on the kids. One of the greatest things about this place is that the people who come here enjoy movies and behave accordingly. I’ve been in the theater with people of all ages and have had the same positive experience from a sold out opening night to a weekday afternoon.

This is the best place to see a movie in town. Its a single screen cinema that been in operations for many decades (right next to the huge Amoco sign)
I hadn’t been here in a long time but came here a couple weeks ago to see «The 100 Foot Journey» and had an amazing time. Little did I know that this was the last night it was showing and the Hi-​Pointe went all out. They had an Indian food truck out front along with tables set up, live music, and a drawing for gift cards to different Indian restaurants around town (I didn’t win).
Its easy to tell the people who work here love the cinema. The seats are comfortable and the screen is adequate.
The concession stand has all the usual options in addition to beer and wine ($ 4/​glass). They even have a small popcorn and soda combo for $ 5.
Every Wednesday, 2D movies are $ 5 and 3D movies and $ 7.50. The only downside is the limited options of movies showing here as there is only one screen. They do rotate the films pretty frequently and sometimes have midnight showings of cult classics.
Parking is available at the Lindell Bank across the street. Just be careful crossing the busy road.

I really love this theater! They also have a bar on the inside that serves tallgrass beer which is brewed in Manhattan, Kansas. And I am a Kansas State University graduate which is also located in Manhattan, Kansas!
The atmosphere of the theatre is absolutely amazing. You just can’t get this at any other normal AMC or big theater.
I live near the HiPoint theater. So I love coming here whenever they have a good movie showing. Movie tickets are also very reasonably priced!
Sometimes during the week they play an older movie. And it’s always fun to go back in time and watch an old movie!
The bank across the street lets you park for free after hours when movies are playing. So parking and getting to the theater is always super easy!

Best theater popcorn hands down! I love this place, it’s so nice to live in this neighborhood and take advantage of all the little perks. You can really relax and enjoy yourself. No gross crap on the floors under your feet.

Now that I moved away, I truly miss this place. If you’re looking for a great cinema experience and something a little more unique than the typical mall theater, stop by and give this place a shot. Everything from the snacks, booze (I know right?!), interior décor and complimentary candy in the restrooms makes this place what it is. I love the ambiance and ecletic feel and only wish I had spent a few more of my evenings in this little gem.

This is the best cinema experience I have had in a very very long time, and I’m a filmmaker living in Los Angeles where filmic experiences are state of the art and epic.
This is the way cinema should be. It’s unique, it’s special and it’s charm is like something out of another time when people went to the movies and it meant something.

What an awesome theater! I’m so sad I haven’t discovered this place sooner. I absolutely LOVE the retro vibe, the popcorn, and the prices. With prices like these, it’s reasonable to go to the movies more often. The service was also very friendly. Overall I had a great experience and can’t wait to come back!
The only annoying thing is parking… but not enough to take away any stars from the rating.

I was trying to put my finger on why I love the Hi-​Pointe so much, then it occurred to me — they pretty much have all the charm of what movie theaters used to be. There is one movie playing, you buy your ticket, you buy your snacks, you sit down in the one theater and enjoy. Old is the new new!
The Hi-Pointe’s prices are so incredibly reasonable, you won’t believe it. $ 5 per ticket before 5 pm and on Wednesday nights. As for the concessions, we got a medium popcorn, large soda and box of candy and the total was $ 11. Are you kidding me?!? That would have cost $ 314 at a multi-​plex.
Don’t be fooled by the old-​fashioned curtain when you walk in to the theater. Once it opens and you see the screen, you’ll be blown away at the crystal clear picture and sound. So old charm with cutting-​edge technology — BRILLIANT!
PS — Keep your fingers away from the little dog that roams the lobby. It’s not as nice as it looks.

This is such a great movie theater; I really felt like I was stepping back in time once I arrived. In fact, it kind of reminded me of the movie theater on 7^th Heaven in Glen Oak-​is anyone else familiar with that? Anyway, parking was little confusing, but thanks to Unilocal I was able to find out that they offer free parking at the bank across the street after 6. The only problem I had was crossing the street and dodging traffic. I felt a little like I was on «Frogger»!
My boyfriend and I arrived for an evening show and were able to walk right up to purchase tickets, no line! We also treated ourselves to some popcorn and beer which we bought at the concession counter. Since this movie theater only shows 1 show it wasn’t hard at all to know which theater to go into… we walked right in and found the perfect spot to sit. What I like most about this theater is that it is HUGE-​seriously, there are plenty of seats available.
Of course, I had to check out the bathroom while I was there! I went upstairs and I was so happy to see that they even offer some candy and mints for patrons! I am not gonna lie, I needed some tootsie rolls after eating all that popcorn! I grabbed a few to share with the boy and went back down to my seat.
Overall, this was a pretty good experience for me. The service was fine and it was rally awesome not having to wait in line for tickets or food! I’ll definitely be back!

The HI Pointe gets five stars because it’s such a fun and unique cinema experience. They’re committed to what they do, and they do it well.
I really enjoy seeing movies here. It’s unlike any theater I’ve visited. It is like stepping into a time warp, back to the 1950s. The upstairs bathrooms are a must-​visit, if only for the free candy.
Did I just admit on the internet that I eat free candy I find in semi-​public bathrooms? Yes, I did.
Oh, and parking across the street at the bank is free after hours, just don’t block the drive-​thru ATMs.

I do not want to write a typical review about this place because the Hi-​Point deserves something much better. I wish I could hand them an award of AWESOMENESS with a gold seal like the ones you get in grade school.
Hi-​Point has loads and loads of character and has an amazing vintage feel. Its small and cozy and is not your typical theater. Its right down the street from me which is really convenient. I love its brightness and old school movie display feature on the outside. We came here to see Avengers (which by the way is the best movie EVER emphasis on the «ever»!!!) Anyways. We were waiting outside and it started to rain, they let us come inside and wait.
The snacks and popcorn are dirt cheap and they have better options than the regular theater. They even have frozen custard!!! The people that work there are super nice and down to earth and friendly. I got to see Captain America sweep the theater and clean up popcorn from the previous showing. How cool is that??? The theater itself is surprisingly large for being such a small little building. I think they only have 2 screens.
The seats were even comfortable and cushiony, who know how old they are but seriously I have sat in craptastic seats at fancy pants theaters and will take a Hi-​Point theater seat any day over other seats
There was just something so nostalgic about Hi-​Point. I don’t know if it was the cubed ceiling, or the 1970’s green curtains. but I love this place and hope a lot of people don’t come here. I am sorry but i don’t care, I want Hi-​Point all to myself
Park across the street at the bank, or be a rebel and park in the residence parking spots (you will get towed just so you know) but hey who cares Hi-​Point is worth it!
