I’m not sure if this is connected to the kennel wood in ofallon, il but here we go. So I called to verify I could bring my puppy for training even though she is pretty young and only have the shots eligible for her age. They said that it was fine and they could train her anyway. When I went to bring her the front desk people and the trainer (who I spoke with) acted like they didn’t even know who my dog was. Even though she has already been there multiple times. Then they tried to get me to pay them even though I wasn’t able to leave her there. Confusing if you ask me. It almost seems like there is absolutely no compassion towards the dogs, more like they are just big money signs as they come in the door. They showed no interest in my dog and were pretty rude to me. In my opinion if you don’t LOVE dogs and your employees don’t either what is the point of your business.

This place is «AMAZING» with recent business and holiday travel. We have used them many, many times. I have nothing but, good things to say. They are all very interactive with our dog who is a «Huge» people lover. The lodge where she stays is always clean and in order unless she decides otherwise (no toys ever come back). I highly recommend this place if you want your pet to have the same treatment they receive at home. Remember, if your going on vacation why shouldn’t your pet. I could go on and on I hope this helps make your decision.

Hey there fellow technicians and/​or pit bull lovers! Did you know that your friendly neighborhood Kennelwood discriminates against pit bulls? I was told I could not get my pit bull puppy into puppy training, because Kennelwood has strict rules about the breed. After emailing them, I got the following response from their president, Alan Jones:
«Jamie,
Thank you for making me aware of your interest in Kennelwood’s risk management policy concerning pit bulls and pit bull mixes. As you may or may not know the history of pit bulls they have been bred for courage and tenacity that exceeds other breeds of dogs. Originally they were used for bull-​baiting, bear-​baiting as well as baiting other animals. They were bred to attack without warning and once in a fight to never give up, which is referred to as „gameness“ for which they are legendary.
Eventually, pit bulls were fought against one another in „the pit“ and traits such attacking without warning, grip hold and shake behavior were all prized. Dogs were chosen for breeding who displayed abnormal aggression. The heritability of abnormal aggression in certain breeds of dogs cannot not be denied.
Understanding what purpose breeds of dogs were bred for should not be considered breed discrimination, but, in reality, breed knowledge.
Because of its physical and behavior conformation it is without a doubt a breed with greater risks factors than any other breed, which is the reason they are banned on all United States military housing. The breed is banned in many countries, counties and cities for the same reasons.
Just last week a 3 month old child was mauled by the family pet pit bull. I will be happy to forward you the information, if you would like to learn more about this.
I have been following this problem since the mid-70’s when pit bulls began to be slip into the general population as an acceptable family pet. Unfortunately, mauling and fatalities from pit bull attacks have increased every year as the pit bull population has increased.
A recent development is owners of pit bulls who attack and cause carnage are being held legally liable and being sentence to serve time in jail.
All this information is readily available if you are interested in learning about this situation.
Lastly you may find it interesting to know that PETA the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has taken the position to have all pit bulls spayed and neutered with the purpose of eventually taking the breed to extinction. Their position, which I agree with is that the pit bull is one of the most abused breeds of dog we have, and as long as they exist certain people will fight them and abuse them.
The risk management policy at Kennelwood has been in place since 1987, if you will check around you will find other kennels who have pit bull policies, Petropolis for example and others.

If you feel, like I do, that this man is completely ignorant, feel free to stop referring your clients to him. I know I no longer will be. And if you would like to tell him how you feel about the pitbull epidemic, feel free to contact him.

I take that back. First time was a charm; second time… we will not be back.
When I went to go pick our GS up, the lady at the front told me he had been «extremely difficult» and that I’d have to go back to the grooming area with her to pick him up. I walked back to the grooming area to find our giant dog stuffed into a cage not big enough for him, panting like crazy. Needless to say, he was happy to see me.
I’ll never be sure exactly what happened, but I have a hard time believing it was the error of our mild mannered Giant. Even if he had been difficult, I’m fairly certain it’s their job to know how to handle difficult dogs of all kinds, who are no doubt scared to be away from home with all the buzzing and cutting. Regardless of what transpired, for a week or so after the experience, every time I raised my hand to love on our Giant’s head or ears, he’d duck and cower. Hmm.

Their grooming staff is excellent and they take excellent care of my dogs.

They treat your dog like their own! A day before my trip I had to take my dog to the vet, she had some sores in her mouth and needed to take medication daily and was not eating well. This coupled with the fact that I had never boarded my dogs before made me very anxious when I dropped them off at Kennelwood. But they took such amazing care of my dogs! I called for daily reports and they were always gracious and gave me detailed information. One employee in particular, John, actually carried my dog Georgy around, gave her special attention and made sure she ate! They they took such amazing care of my dogs and I would highly recommend this kennel and will definitely use it again!

My dogs has been going to this location for both day camp and boarding since 2007. The staff was friendly, knew her by first name, and My dogs was excited to go. Then, in 2012, there was a shift; many of the staff quit, the service became lacked such as having pics available after howlidays, lost and inaccurate reservations, lost toys/​blankets, incompetent staff that couldn’t answer basic questions, almost complete staff turnover at every visit, and my dogs lost enthusiasm in wanting to go. I also noticed in the last year that my dogs seem to be famished and lost weight when they return as if they hadn’t eaten in days. The straw was when I returned from a 5 day trip, two dogs had injuries; one dogs had a serious eye infection and when I asked how long the condition was this the lady said «I don’t know» the other dog had a bite scar on her ear that they didn’t bother to mention. I am now shopping for a new 2^nd home for my dogs as I no longer trust the competency or staff.

I just picked my pet up from Kennelwood off Page and something seems very off with my girl. I noticed it immediately. She spent 5 days with them while I was away and she seems scared and disoriented. I requested that they give her a bath on the last day before I picked her up but when I got her back she had dry crust on her face and around her mouth and dried eye boogers. She doesn’t even smell clean. When I asked about it they said she had just finished eating and then they brought out her food dish which looked like old food from her first day there. They did take her back and cleaned her face but she still smelled like «dogs». When I brought her home she ate like she was starving and hadn’t eaten in days. She also seems exhausted like she hasn’t slept in days. I hate that she can’t speak to tell me what they did to her.
I don’t think I’ll be bringing her back there. It was on short notice that I brought her there in the first place. I’m going to do my research efficiently before my next trip to find a place I think she’d be comfortable at. It just makes me sad that she possibly didn’t have a good experience there.

I had the misfortune of boarding my 3 month old Doberman for 12 days and I feel like I didn’t bring home the same dog. 12 days later she’s skin and bones, she has a terrible diarrhea, seems exhausted, lethargic, submissive (almost scared) she smelled horrible, when I picked her up I didn’t really get a chance to look her over because I was exhausted from driving 12 hrs. I had previously taken my other dog a Chihuahua for a weekend to the same kennel and everything seemed ok.
When I realized she smelled horrible I decided to give her a bath as soon as I got home, the first shock came to me when she let me get her into the tub without resistance. She also stood still and made no effort to jump out while I rinsed her out, the water was bright yellow… yup, it was urine folks. My 3 month old pup lost at least 10 pounds while I was enjoying my vacation I feel horrible that I left her under these people care.

All of my dogs have been trained by Adam including my blind and deaf Great Dane. He did a great job with each of them.

I started taking my dog to Puppy Play Dates, which are free to any puppy under 7 months. I was able to drop him off at 8 and pick him up at 5. While there, he played with other puppies, ate his lunch, got a bath, had his teeth brushed, got a moisturizing treatment and had his nails filed — again — all for FREE.
What a value Kennelwood Pet Resort offers its clients. They even have a dog taxi that will pick your dog up from your house. My dog loves playing with other dogs, and I don’t like to leave him at home all week when I’m at work. This is a great program. Now that he’s older, he attends day camp every 2 weeks.
The staff is really knowledgable and loving. They know most of the dogs by name and treat them extremely well. Kennelwood has turned out to be one of the best experiences I have found in Pet Care. Their facilities are clean and offer lots of spaces for dogs to play. I almost forgot — they snap pictures of your pet throughout the day and send them to you! I knew my dog was well cared for, but the pictures really help!

My aunt took her 5 month year old dog to the Kennelwood Pet Resort off Page and Lindbergh to have her dog trained. She recieved a call from DAVE, the dogs trainer, early in the day about how her dog had bit him. When she picked up her dog, the dogs eyes were bloodshot red and he had bruises around his ears and neck. My aunt was advised to take the dog to the vet to get checked out. The vet said that the dog had been choked and abused. There are many more details and pictures that I have seen, but I am too upset to even continue to write about it. DAVE, the trainer has denied that anything happened except that the dog bit him. My question is, how does a dog get bloodshot eyes and bruises around his ear and neck. Please do NOT take your dog to Kennelwood as I have heard many other stories that are similar as well. Also, DO NOT USE DAVE as a trainer. I would hate to see this happen to any other dog or animal. It makes me sick to think that this happened.
