Labor Day Run 5k and 10k

So for my 500^th review, I was torn on what I was going to write about. Running? Bread pudding? My cat?
And then I remembered that I signed up for the JCC 10k Labor day race, and the decision was made for me. Running it is!
Anyway, this race bills itself as the ‘most challenging 10K in St. Louis’, and at first I had my doubts (I’ve run some KILLER races here in STL), but after the 5^th or 6^th groan-​inducing vertical incline (I refuse to call something that crazy a hill — I felt like I needed some mountain climbing gear for some of those hills!), I have to agree. Definitely the most challenging 10K I’ve done.
However, it was also one of the most rewarding 10Ks I’ve completed. My quads are going to hate me tomorrow — I just know it!
Packet pickup for this race was a snap. I picked up my bib number and t-​shirt inside the Jewish Community Center, which also happened to be the location of the start and finish.
There were PLENTY of water stations, which was awesome. I think we all giggled when the first water station hit at the 0.75 mile mark — we’re not even a mile into the race, and you’re already offering water? It was funny. But better too many water stations than not enough!
The course took us through Maryland Heights and Creve Coeur. Lots of pretty houses to look at. LOTS of hills. And the police were out to block lanes and direct traffic, which is always appreciated.
The finish line was stocked with lots of goodies; gatorade, water, bananas, bagels, granola bars, etc. I wish I was one of those runners that was ravenous after such a hard effort. But the thought of shoveling food into my mouth right after finishing a tough race makes me ill. However, if you ARE that kind of runner, this race has got you covered!
Not sure if I’ll run this one next year. It was fun, but the entry fee ($ 27) was quite steep for just a 10K.
