Patty Long Catering has built an unmatched reputation for providing quality food presentations and outstanding service. We own and operate 9th Street Abbey, the 9th Street Loft and Beyond Broadway. We also provide full service off-​premise catering to various locations.

History

Established in 1986.

Patty and Long are the two last names of Deborah Patty and Joan Long. They met and became great friends while working as international flight attendants for TWA. When TWA went on strike in the spring of 1986, Deborah and Joan found themselves with no jobs and decided to put their love of the culinary arts to work. They started a small catering business and bistro in Lafayette Square. A few years later, Deborah sold her interest in the business to Joan who still operates as President to this day.

Joan Long started Patty Long Catering over 25 years ago. Her fun-​loving and positive spirit paired with her natural gift for hospitality and hard work made her vision for her company a reality. Joan has received numerous awards most recently including St. Louis Small Business Monthly’s Top Women Business Owner 2011, 2012, 2013; ISES Icon Award 2011; and the Wish Upon a Wedding Shining Star Award 2010. Joan returns the love of her community by volunteering and serving on the boards at the YMCA, St. Peter and Paul, and Harris House. Joan enjoys spending time with her husband and kids, frequently retreating to their farm in Houston, Missouri. She works out at the YMCA, and enjoys the Soulard neighborhood whenever and however she can!

Very nice space for a party. However, the sound system and lighting are not good as expected for a wedding and reception venue. Those seated near the entrance really strained to hear the ceremony and toasts. Food was excellent. Seasoned perfectly and not too salty.

My husband and I had our wedding and reception at 9th Street Abbey in May and everything was amazing! The venue was gorgeous and the staff were so helpful. I also have to give a shout out to Giselle, my event planner! She was so great to work with and made sure that every last detail of our wedding was perfect. I planned my wedding long distance from the west coast and Giselle was so quick to respond to my frequent emails that it was just as easy as planning in St. Louis. I also need to mention that the food was amazing. We were able to customize our dinner menu to our tastes and to suit the varying needs of our guests (we had several vegetarians in attendance). Thank you for everything Patty Long!

My husband and I were married this past weekend and had our reception at River Bottom Saloon of Patty Long Catering. We had such an AMAZING night! Our planner through Patty Long was Julia and she was so friendly, accommodating, and professional. The staff was pleasant and efficient. They all made ALL of our guests feel taken care! The space was beautiful and everything that was agreed upon in our contract was honored! Not to mention the FOOD! All our friends and family raved about the food, the beef was cooked to perfection, the mash potato bar was the highlight of the night!

Patty Long is absolutely amazing. My husband and I recently had our wedding at the 9th Street Abbey and everything was absolutely perfect. From the time we looked at the space to the day of our wedding, everyone was incredibly helpful and worked perfectly. The location was great, right in the heart of Soulard. The Abbey was also incredibly accommodating. They worked with our wedding planner to make sure all the vendors knew what time to come in, what to do, and my mom and mother-​in-​law did not have to worry about anything. It was seamless. As for the food, we knew from the second we did our tasting, that we couldn’t go wrong with whatever we chose. We ultimately decided on the Chicken Roulade, pasta, and green beans. SO DELICIOUS. We got rave reviews about the food all night long. The passed appetizers were amazing — chicken salad on a puff pastry, spring rolls, and dumplings. They even saved us a plate, since we weren’t able to attend our cocktail hour! They also had a great Ted Drewes package that you could add so you can have Ted Drewes for dessert! :)
I would recommend this to anyone planning an event. Patty Long really helped to make the day easy, relaxed, and fun. Good times were had by all!

As part of the Patty Long Catering Company the Abbey is the crown jewel. If you do nothing else
plan a party here. The food is amazing, the service sublime and the venue is simply old world elegant. A word of caution, If you like fried chicken (and I do) and motacolli, this may not be your cup of tea. Think Tandoori shrimp. In true professional spirit the Patty Long staff can reccomend other venues for the budget conscious. But gentle reader, don’t deprive yourself of this experience. Life is short. Live!

My aunt got married here last weekend and it was such a great night! As a guest everything was perfect. The ceremony started inside (wasn’t really sure what was going to happen since there was a bar in the ceremony room), then we went outside to the BEAUTIFUL lit up patio for drinks and passed appetizers, then back inside for dinner and dancing. All of the food was great– strawberry/​poppyseed salad, chicken and gnocchi.
The setting is very historic with pretty red brick and ivy outside, but inside is updated yet very pretty with the stained glass windows. Plenty of bathrooms, attentive staff, perfect size (I think this wedding had about 100 guests). It was nice to be in one place and not drive to a reception.
The location is perfect for heading out in Soulard afterward.

The wedding coordinator was late to the rehearsal and on the day of the wedding. I found out 5 days before my wedding that the wedding coordinator that I had been communicating with for months would not be the one there for my wedding. The wedding coordinator that was there was rude and unhelpful. We felt like she was trying to rush us out even though we had payed for the whole time period. The church was still beautiful but we will not be using Patty Long Catering again. All in all a bad experience.

When the The Ninth Street Abbey was purchased in 1992, it had been neglected and a lot of time and special care was put into restoring and improving the historic building. It was initially opened as a restaurant and event space in the mid 1990’s.
The restaurant mainly offered brunch and a Cajun lunch buffet, which were so-​so, but the bread pudding was to die for. Their catered affairs were prepared at a much higher level.
Once the catering business grew and Patty Long’s began running Meriwhether’s restaurant at the History Museum, they closed the restaurant operations at the Abbey to focus on Meriwether’s and the catering business. They retained the Abbey as an event space and corporate office.
The 9th Street Abey is special to me because my father had his wedding and reception there. I felt that the beautifully restored Gothic structure was perfect for his second wedding and added a lot of charm. It was neat that he could have both events in the same venue. Because his first Catholic wedding had never been annulled, he wasn’t permitted to get married in the Catholic Church and this venue was a perfect alternative. The food that was catered was exquisite and beautifully presented.
I’ve also held several formal corporate events at the Abbey and everyone was impressed each time. During the day natural light emanates through the beautiful windows. It never feels dark and dreary like some church buildings can.
I would totally recommend this venue to anyone. Especially for weddings and formal events.

From what I’m told, the 9th Street Abbey used to be a restaurant before it was just a venue for events. Now it is the home base for caterer Patty Long and a lovely place to have a formal or casual (but always beautiful) event.
My husband and I attended a wedding here and it was simply gorgeous. The interior of this converted church has breathtaking cathedral ceilings and beautiful stained glass windows. I’m a huge fan of stained glass, and if you’re attending an event at 9th Street Abbey and you get bored, these windows will keep you entertained. 9th Street Abbey also has a patio garden with lots of plants, fountains and an outdoor bar. I’m definitely going to recommend this place for my company’s next corporate event.
