Loved this place. Delicious. Rustic modern romantic décor. Great memories of the meal we had here. Visited November 2012.

This was the 2nd time I had visited this restaurant. The first time, it was just my girlfriend and I and we used a groupon or living social deal that was $ 20 for $ 40, I believe. It was nice and we were happy to have the deal since it’s a little more of an expensive restaurant. This most recent visit was 4 of us and we were using a living social deal that had us ordering from the Pre Fixed menu. Each couple got 2 appetizers, 2 pasta dishes, 1 entrée(meat/vegetables), and 2 desserts. I believe the living social deal broke down to $ 15/person. The menu showed the regular price for this experience was $ 34/person so we were definitely getting a deal(isn’t that the point of groupon/living social?). I have to give Sage a lot of credit for offering such a great deal. I have to mention that their menu included multiple pre fixe options as well as the option to order individually, which is still pricey, but not as much as the multiple course offerings obviously. In addition to our food, we ordered some beer and wine. Everyone enjoyed their beverages. I, particularly, enjoyed my limited Goose Island bee(Pepe Nero) which was readily available because of Anheiser Bush being right across the street. I’ll start by saying that there was A LOT of food for all 4 of us! Each person getting their own appetizer, pasta dish, shared entrée, and dessert was PLENTY! The appetizers were all large portions considering they were supposed to be for each individual, and they were all average to above average taste-wise. There were several appealing options to choose from. The pastas were probably the highlight of the meal all the way around. They were huge portions and very flavorful. Again, there were several appealing options of pasta to choose from, and with 4 people it was nice to be able to taste 4 options. I will say that although they were all very flavor, they were all very rich which led us to believe that there was a lot of butter/cream in these dishes(fine with me, but a heads up to the rest of you). The entrees were satisfactory as they offered some interesting options with some good combinations of flavor, but nothing that«wow’d» us. The vegetables(particularly carrots) on both of the entrée dishes were very undercooked and crunchy, but that was about the only disappointing part of those dishes. Lastly, the dessert was the unfortunate disappointing end to an otherwise great meal. The only two dessert options were Crème Brulee and Jack Daniels sauce Bread Pudding. I’ll say that the Bread Pudding was quite average, but not awful. However, the Crème Brulee was incredibly OVERCOOKED. It had the consistency of cheese cake. Regardless of flavor, this made for a very disappointing dessert experience. Luckily, we were all very full and the dessert was not crucial. We were able to box up leftovers from our pastas and entrees and take them home. Overall, this was a pleasant experience and even though I would have hated to pay the full price(the bill was still sizable after drinks, tax, and tip on the full amount of the bill) it may be worth the full price if you are out for a special occasion. This place is definitely worth a try whether you are going for several courses or ordering individual menu items. It’s a quality, nice dinner in a great neighborhood. I did notice that they have a very reasonable lunch menu on the chalkboard menu in the bar as we left so I will definitely go to try out their sandwiches for lunch some time with a beer.

The new menu is wonderful. I especially enjoyed the Calamari — it was cooked to perfection.

I met a friend here for lunch today she had the pasta special and I had the pulled pork with sweet potato chips. We were greeted by the friendly owner who explained we order at the bar and can sit anywhere we like, we chose a booth in the bar area, at first we were told we could help ourselves to the drinks but as time went on we really didn’t need to because the very attentive staff kept offering to get it for us which was nice. So now the review 1) service, friendly and often we didn’t have to wait long at all for our food or to be asked if we needed anything so service gets 5 stars 2) the menu is limited at lunchtime but both my food and my friends tasted fresh I just found it odd that the pulled pork had no sauce it was still good just not what I was expecting and the homemade chips were really good too. We also had dessert we had the chocolate truffle and crème brûlée both were tasty just on the small side for sharing. So overall I’d give the taste a 4 star the selection and portions 3 stars. 3) We were able to hear each other speak which is always a plus in my book and the place was very clean, not super busy at 11am but I did notice there were private parties so it could be a nice spot for holiday parties too. Tip: on Saturdays you can park in the lot behind the building even though the sign says after 5 per the owner. Tip 2: they have punch cards so when you go ask for one and once the punches are filled you get a free sandwich Tip 3 they do take reservations Overall we liked the place and the service, I would like to see a little more on the selections for lunchtime but I will go back, so Ill still give them 4 stars

So, I chose to eat at Sage today for lunch and I must say that I was not very pleased with their new lunch menu. While I do appreciate them creating a quicker and cheaper lunch for business workers… the food quality has been sacrificed. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with chips. I remember their pulled pork being very good, so I felt that was a safe order. WRONG! The pulled pork that came out to me might as well have been called«Shredded Flash Fried Pork». There was not a drop of moistness to this at all. Very crunchy and dry. It was served with a side of lettuce/tomato/onion, but that would not have aided the sandwich in any way. The chips were ok, but lacked proper seasoning. The person who i was sitting next to ordered a burger. When it came out it looked like a pre-formed/pre-cooked/re-heated mess. Not like the burgers I remember and loved. I know they only changed their menu a few days ago and maybe they are getting used to things… but this was just not good. I would rather pay a few more dollars and wait an extra 15 minutes for good food. Also, it would be helpful for those patrons who don’t know about the change yet to maybe have something on the hostess stand that says«please proceed to the bar to place your order». Definitely a miss on your part Sage… i used to really enjoy coming here. I felt it was special when I was able to come. I really am having second thoughts about the gift certificate that I just purchased… Maybe dinner will be better.

I had a certificate from and i tried my damnedest to meet the $ 35 to get my $ 25 off. First, I ordered the Rock Shrimp Egg Roll. You get 3 in an order. I was expecting more of an egg roll than a rangoon. I did not like the orange sauce. I am not a fan of sweet and sour sauce. I did not eat the fried greens on the side. I ordered the Meatball sandwich special. I asked for sweet potato chips and got fries. I liked the sandwich but found myself disecting it to eat it. The meatballs kept falling out of the bread. The fries were hot but i really wanted the chips. sad face. at least the meatballs were not the frozen pre-made mystery meat variety. I decided to get a $ 2 crème brûlée. the brulee was ok. I have had better but for $ 2 not bad. the service was friendly. and i will return. there are some other things i’d like to try.

Sage is a very nice place to sit out on a Autumn evening on there back patio area and enjoy the night air, candles on the tables(not real fire) good food, and nice drinks. Me and my bf has been to Sage twice and I was shocked that I haven’t done a review on them. We sat both inside and out. We sat inside the first time we went for dinner, which was good. The second time we sat outside. It was just nice all around. The staff was accommodating and helpful. It wasn’t too loud at all. The drinks were good as well. I have no complaints for Sage. I will definitely go back again, and again!

Possibly the worst table service I have ever experienced. All night we were left with empty glasses without so much as an acknowledgement from our waiter for periods of 10 – 20 minutes at a time. The food was far overpriced and the vegetarian options were limited. The dessert was laughable.

Ms T and I took our Groupon and a nice bottle of wine to Sage for a Saturday evening dinner. We found it to be an inviting place, not large and having some local charm. We passed on the opportunity to try their patio, it was just too hot at over 100 °F. I appreciated the reasonable $ 10 corkage fee, but the glasses were not appropriate. I noticed that people ordering wine by the glass had better glasses. We started with Rock Shrimp Rangoon. There were three of them and they were plenty big. I have to admit that we get used to small appetizers and these were more than the two of us needed. They are egg roll style filled with a ton of the rich creamy filling and served with a tangy, sweet red chile sauce. They need to fry them just a bit more to crisp the wrapper, but they were good and very rich. I followed with a basic tossed green salad that I let Ms T sample. It had seasoned sunflower seeds, fresh baby greens and a vinaigrette dressing. It had a little feta that I tolerated since I am not a fan of butyric acid on my food. Fortunately it was not over done, but the salad would be better without it. It kind of grew on me. We each had a cup of soup. Ms T’s New England Clam Chowder was creamy, not over thickened. The potato was cooked creamy. It was well flavored with herbs and bacon. I will say it really had no clam flavor, but the herbs and bacon still made it good. My Fire Roasted Tomato Bisque was very good. The balance of sweet and sour from the tomatoes was perfect. It was rich from the concentration of flavor that happens when the tomatoes are roasted. I would order either again. The combination of the Rangoon, the salad and the soups was really all we needed. I have to stop ordering so much. Consequently we just sampled our entrees and took the balance home. Ms T ordered a special of the day, Seared Scallops with Shrimp Risotto. She pronounced the scallops to be perfectly seared and although the shrimp in the risotto was pretty hard to find it was a good dish. Regardless of the fact that we had plenty to eat, $ 30 for three scallops seems like plenty. Four scallops would be nice. I ordered Blackened Shrimp and Steak Penne. This is a Cajun inspired dish. The shrimp were very good, well seasoned and with great fresh shrimp flavor. The andouille seemed pretty commercial and since I measure all andouille against the gold standard,(from Jacobs in LaPlace, LA, trust me) this was just OK. The steak could be left out and not hurt the dish. It sounds like a good idea, but needs to be seared hard to give it a crust. It needed seasoning and sear. It seemed to have been steamed in the sauce. It had crisp, tender asparagus. The sauce was very rich, almost too thick. My suggestion on this would be to not cook the sauce down so far, leave a little to flow over the food. In general this is a good dish, it just needs a little refinement. I liked that it has some cayenne heat. Needless to say we passed on desserts. The 3−½ stars that Sage has on average as I write this is just about right. That is what I would give if there were half stars. I’m going with three. With better wine glasses, one more scallop, some clam flavor in the chowder, a little shrimp flavor in the risotto, some sear and seasoning on the steak, better quality andouille and a less cooked down cream sauce on the penne and they are at a solid four stars. These are the details you expect at the price point. Also, I hate to point it out but since Ms T and I both noticed the slight sewer smell in the restaurant, well, I kind of have to.

Hats off to Sage for a wonderful dinner! 5⁄5 for food, 3.5 for ambiance. My girlfriends and I met here for our monthly HH and it was also a ‘Dine out for the Cure’ location, so even better! It was too hot to sit on the patio(bummer, because their patio is nice!) so we sat in the dining area. The restaurant is smaller than I expected. The bar only has a few booths and the dining area is very small as well, but there is an upstairs for weekends(I’m assuming) when its busier. Inside the place smells like an old house which puts you off a bit, but the décor is nice. I ordered the vegetarian black bean burger with side of coleslaw. I was inbetween that and the goat cheese salad, but the waiter promised me the burger was amazing… and he was SO right! It was one of the best burgers I’ve had, and I’m definitely not a vegetarian! It had a great kick of flavor to it and it was topped with cheeses, sauce, lettuce, tomato and guacamole. YUM! It was so good by itself that I ate it without the bun. The cole slaw was delicious, it was a fresh spin on an otherwise boring side, with a sweet sauce and krispy slaw pieces. Definitely not your usual sloppy mayo slaw here! I had their house chardonnay which was very good, nice pours from the bartender also. My friends all loved their dinners as well, we all scraped our plates clean! They had the gyro sandwich and the asian salad. I was the only one that shared my burger, so they must have loved their dinners even more than I did since they didn’t offer any of theirs, LOL. The dining area was brightly lit and the tables are close together, so not your super romantic or chic atmosphere if that is what you are looking for, but a GREAT place for a wonderful meal with friends. Check it out! Also, make sure to ask a manager for directions if you call the restaurant while driving in… I called on my way to make sure I had the right directions and the guy got me totally lost, haha… luckily I knew he had me going the wrong way so I was pulled over and asked to speak to someone else.

Sage is a fairly nice place with a nice garden patio. The theme is very earthy contemporary. The only complaint about set up is the bar. It’s a very awkward layout. The food is American and Asian fusion. The food is good, but pricey. In my opinion, if you are going to charge 28+ for entrees, it should be fantastic, and it’s not. But, they have good apps, great reasonably priced salads, and a nice patio, which is why I gave it 4 stars.

Sage is a very good restaurant. The menu should please just about any palate as should the prices. One of my favorite features is their patio. I think it’s one of the best in St. Louis.(I’m not comparing it to any rooftops in town.) The service has always been top notch with the food and drinks serving up at the same speed no matter when I go — lunch or dinner. I have eaten their at least a ten times over the last two years and I have come to depend on a great dining experience whether I’m with a group or sitting at a table for two. I just had dinner their last week and it was another memorable meal. Sage is easy to find, just one block north of the AB Brewery Visitor Center at the corner of Lynch and 11th street. There’s always parking on the street or in one of two parking lots behind the restaurant. There’s a reason why so many Unilocaler’s give Sage at least a four-star review. I hope you have one too.

I’ve eaten here several times and I’ve never been disappointed. The butter nut squash soup is to die for, I’ve had the roasted pepper soup also but it’s butternut squash soup time, I will be heading over before Mardi Gras kicks off in Soulard. I like the quiet ambiance and during Mardi Gras, it’s just no going to happen!

I’m a big fan of Sage. I’ve been on many separate occasions and I’ve always left pretty satisfied. Sage is tucked away right across the street from the Anheuser Busch brewery, so if you plan to go for a tour in the afternoon or have just come from one(and the free beer tasting at the end, of course), it’s a great choice. It’s also a good choice for dinner. My absolute favorite way to do Sage is at night during the summer. It has the most excellent back patio with an open bar and tiered tables some in the open and some under umbrellas. The inside is quite nice too though — comfy high booths line the walls and there are tables in the center. Also a really cool staircase right when you enter leading up to a second floor that’s used more for private parties, I think. So now for the most important part — the food. I’ve had a number of different dishes — the spinach salad with macadamia nuts, mushrooms, and sundried tomatoes with a great dressing, a yummy Asian wrap, and a really good seafood pasta in white wine sauce. My dad’s had a very good reuben and cubano sandwich there and my mom’s enjoyed the caesar salad or split wraps with me sometimes. I’ve never come away disappointed with Sage and I love the ambiance of it. I highly recommend it, and would gladly make a special trip to Soulard for it.

Pleasantly surprised, I think Sage is better than the 3.5 stars that it has on Unilocal. The butternut squash bisque was as good as everybody says, there’s a really nice hint of spicy to go along with the smooth sweetness. The calamari was a refreshing change from the usual heavy breading that typically works to cover the taste of the calamari. Great sauce on it too, nice and light and tangy. The baked brie was a little bit on the too sweet side, but had a crispy shell on it that gave it a really nice texture. They really nailed the steak and shrimp quesadilla, going with the cotija cheese really set it apart for me. The wings, and hummus were… just wings and hummus, not too exciting, but good. Unfortunately for me, sharing the above with a couple of Goose Island pints made me too full for the mains, so looks like I’ll be back!

This review reflects the private upstairs room only! One of my best friends had her rehearsal dinner at Sage after reading a Unilocal talk thread about rehearsal dinner spots(thanks Unilocalers!) and it definitely got the job done. Sage is a beautiful spot and the lights the line the stairs going up are just gorgeous and perfect for anything wedding/birthday/anniversary related. The private bar upstairs is a great size and I like how it’s elevated from the main room… makes it seem more official or something. The bartenders were excellent and very generous on the pour, if you know what I mean. The main room itself was gorgeous with tons of both long and round tables, and it was easy to walk around and mingle with guests. The ambiance couldn’t be beat and the space itself is highly recommended. The food was good! Just good, not great, but it worked. The appetizers(spinach dip with pitas, calamari, and chicken quesadillas) were very good, and the entrees were alright. I had a stuffed chicken breast and it was almost too rich to eat, and the steak/mashed potatoes was just alright as well. We all agreed after seeing the flower girl eat that we should’ve went with chicken fingers and fries! Work with the venue and really try the food beforehand, but this is a wonderful space. Yay for weddings!

I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised how well we enjoyed our dinner! Prices are a bit higher, but I’m confident if you order the right menu items, you will really enjoy it. — Tossed Salad $ 5 — Tonight it came with the house Maple Raspberry Vinaigrette and was fresh and tasty. Other dressing options are available. — Butternut Squash Soup — $ 4 Cup, $ 5 Bowl — Go ahead and get the bowl for only $ 1 more. It’s worth it. This was our server’s suggestion, and he was right. — Steak & Shrimp Penne — $ 21, The cajun cream sauce was outstanding. The cream tamed the spicy-ness of the cajun(probably cayenne pepper) just right, and I have a low tolerance for spicy. When I asked the server between the ribs and this penne dish, he recommended the penne. HEWASSOOOORIGHT! I would get this again in a heartbeat. — Pork Tenderloin — My friend asked the server between the salmon and pork tenderloin, and the server recommended tenderloin, which my friend said was the best he’s ever had — one of the only tenderloins to keep some moistness and not taste dried out. — Cucumber & Tomato Wrap — $ 9, Tasted Fresh, watery seasoning which leaked all over, back end of wrap fell apart, and the whole thing tasted ok but was really messy. Chose the Honey Jicama Slaw, which had fruit in it and was interesting. — Ribs — $ 20, Friend really liked his ribs and had so much food, he had to take half of the ribs home. I think he split ½ an oyster appetizer and had a spinach salad as well. Bread came with some sort of herbed butter spread, which was good. I asked for extra, which they obliged. Service was excellent. Dessert options were $ 2 shots of dessert. We had a banana bread/peanut butter/walnut cake of some sort, which was good. I split it with my husband. But depending on your appetite, you could totally pick 2 different kinds at least. If you have some advance notice, get reservations on and earn points toward food rewards. The space was nice-looking but a loud table could easily echo off the walls and create quite a loud atmosphere.

The wife and I brought our 4YO daughter here on a Friday night. I figured this wouldn’t be the greatest place to take a little one, but they have a kids menu and they even brought her a little veggie appetizer and one of their shot glass desserts, so in that regard it turned out much better than expected. We sat in the main dining room and it was a lively atmosphere, so that made it even better. We had been here for lunch 3 – 4 times, but never for dinner. Our experience in the past had always been about the same — very good or great food with slow service. On this night, though, the service was only slightly slow, not even enough to complain about it. I noticed the servers here seem a bit more eager to watch out for each other than at most places. This might be a concerted effort to improve the service. If so, it worked. Although the food has always been good, it’s also been on the verge of forgettable. This time, we had the grilled tuna and Seafood Capellini entrees. Both were up to the usual standard — good stuff. Actually, the Capillini was actually a little better than that — worth a return trip, I’d say. One thing I really like here are the dessert shots. For two bucks, they are just right for people like us that don’t often go for dessert. We’re both usually satisfied with just a taste, so we chose to share the gooey butter cake. We then made the mistake of offering our daughter a bite. She wasn’t sure at first, but after a little bit she decided to ditch her blueberry cheesecake and finish ours. Hers was good too, so nothing lost. Bottom line: Sage isn’t the most thrilling place in town, but it’s good and consistent. There’s a pretty good chance you’ll find a dish you like a lot and not matter what you get, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. I give it a 3.5, rounded up to 4.

We LOVE Sage and we’ve been 3 times now. The atmosphere is very nice and they have a wonderful patio. Our last visit we sat in the bar area and will say that it was a bit noisy if you wanted to just have a conversation, but we didn’t really mind. We got the fresh greens salad and the Salmon and Halibut Special for our entrees… all wonderful as usual. We’d also love to point out that their calamari is the best we’ve had yet.
