Local DJ’s spin nightly on Fridays and Saturdays. Check the web site for listings.

The Thaxton building is a multi-level events venue, located in the heart of downtown. Constructed in 1928 and restored to its Art Deco splendor, the historic Thaxton building is perfect for your next soirée!

History

Established in 1998.

The building was formerly known as the Eastman Kodak Building, for whom it was constructed in 1928. The original use of the building was a retail outlet for Eastman Kodak Corp. The company also had plans to erect 9 more identical buildings throughout the country. However, the Great Depression hit and squashed their plans.

In 1994, Mark Pitliangas of Antique Architectural Décor, bought and restored the building. Per request by EKC, the building was renamed. Currently known as «The Thaxton Building,» with the name being derived from the building owner’s middle name.

Mark’s daughter, Kim Pitliangas, and business partner, Peter Venezia, later went on to open the Thaxton Speakeasy, in the lower level of the building. As well as, a private events business that utilizes all levels of the the Thaxton Building.

Meet the Business Owner

Peter V.

Business Owner

Peter was the founder of the Atomic Cowboy, originally located on Manchester in the Dogtown area. Later, he took on partners and relocated the Atomic Cowboy to Manchester in the Grove area. After two years, he sold his portion of the AC, and he and Kim, his current business partner, ran The Cabin in the City Museum. Shortly after, the pair opened the «downtown underground lounge» known as the Speakeasy in the lower level of the Thaxton Building.
