Awesome customer service, friendly staff. You are treated like a valued customer regardless of whether your purchase is for $ 2, $ 20, or $ 200. Staff knows their store, the product, and offers the most appropriate tool or product for your needs. I don’t feel a push to upsell and I’ve never been told«aisle 4, I think» when I’ve asked for assistance locating an item.(That was a direct quote from another hardware store I walked out of last week.) I often don’t know the correct name for the products I want to buy — that hasn’t mattered here. Staff listens to your needs and knows enough to get you what you need. I haven’t experienced this level of service at any other hardware store, big box or neighborhood/locally owned. I recently needed my old reel mower sharpened. I’ll admit Hamlin wasn’t my first stop. After unsuccessfully attempting to use another hardware store that told me they offered the service, but then mysteriously ceased the service less than 12 hours later, I called Hamlin. The turn around time at Hamlin was awesome and I think the mower works better now than when I bought it.

I’m kind of a connoisseur of hardware stores after 30 years in the handyman biz… and these folks run just a great classic hardware store. Nice helpful staff who know their stuff, and want to sell you the best solution to your problem rather than the best deal for them. I came in asking for their 30 dollar plumbing repair item and they told me their 10 dollar one would work better. They were right! They have rental tools reasonably priced qnd well-maintained too considering how convenient they are… Prices are competitive even with the Home Despot and Men’s Nards big box guys and the knowledge staff have, the return policy and all that is exponentially better.

I had a disagreement with closing my Victorian window and I lost when our winter weather hit in November. I desperately called around to hear that the Grand Ave had a 3 week wait even in an emergency but Jim, the owner, from Hardware Hank was unbelievably kind and gracious and said to bring it over, even though I could see that they were closing in an hour. They immediately stripped it of all old caulk, put in the glass and quickly, and efficiently re-caulked it. I felt like I was watching an old German tradesman based on the skill and knowledge as they worked with my window, reinforcing the old wooden corners. . They were so kindhearted of my emergency, worked quickly and even carried it out to my car. This is what old time neighbor shops used to be, and this shop still has that skill and attitude. I can’t begin to express how they turned a tough situation around with their gentle person style, and abilities. I felt so good that I walked the aisles purchasing more things to show my gratitude. I will come here again, not just for the knowledge, the skill and the products but especially to save the stress of visiting the other places where you are on your own. They are aware of their stock, have helpful ideas of DIY projects, rent equipment, repair engines and appliances(who repairs things anymore… they do) and truly have a rare and superlative customer service mentality. Thanks to Jim, Colten and the family for this gracious gift to me.

This place has everything you could possibly need at a hardware store. On top of that, they have excellent customer service with very friendly staff. Every time I have ever been here I have been greeted immediately upon walking in the door. They will help you figure out exactly what you need and are very helpful answering questions. I came in two times while building my halloween costume, an Angel. I needed to build a frame for the wings and really didn’t have a clue how to accomplish that. I gave a brief description of what I was trying to do and they gave great suggestions and showed me the different material that would work best. They cut me PVC pipes of 3 different lengths, cut me out 3 feet of wire mesh, and showed me over to the different sized steel wire. Costume turned out great, and I can thank my local Hardware Hank! I will never go to another hardware store as long as I live in Midway.

A garden tool needed a new handle that I could not repair. They milled the metal and attached a new hardwood handle, charged only $ 8 including labor Considering how much I paid for the original, that was a great price, and it was ready in a couple of hours. I have found them to always be very helpful and polite.

Matt & Jon are my go-to guys for all things home & yard improvement. Super nice, honest, and will walk you through what you need to do, very helpful for a DIY-novice like me. I always stop here first — their equipment rental rates cannot be beat — and if I need something they don’t have I ask if they can get it before I go to the big-boxes. This is a family-run business at it’s best — support them!

I took my KitchenAid Stand Mixer here to get it repaired. They did a great job with it and the price was great for everything that I thought was wrong with it. But the only problem was that it took 3 ½ weeks to get it back. Granted it was during Thanksgiving and all so I guess I understand.
