Minnesota Public Radio

MPR is awesome In many ways. I’d love to give a 5, but almost gave a 3 due to their extend over-​airing of Market Place. Market Place is well produced, but the content is SO bad. Too conservative, to pretentious, too many attempts to make jokes funny only to those sitting back with a cigar and scotch.
This nonsense isn’t news.

We love to support local and we love to have an option of something off the beaten path. Our family became members of MPR for the first time on Thursday! I happened to tune in during a new membership drive and decided that it was time to finally be a part of supporting something important like local media. In addition to having engaging conversations, there’s a fun and creative variety of music always available through this organization. Becoming an official member of MPR is such an exciting way to kick off our summer. We can’t wait to use our state parks pass included in our membership as an added bonus. We had one last year and intended to renew it anyway, but because of the kickbacks of Thursday’s member drive, we got to support MPR and renew our parks pass in one serendipitous swoop. Win/​win!

Yes… as good as it gets.
The NPR side of Minnesota Public radio is not unlike any other similar public stations across the US (Car Talk, Fresh Air). All that stuff is nationally piped in from Washington DC.
What sets Minnesota Radio apart is it extraordinary programming locally when it comes to the fantastic music they broadcast.
The music. The announcers. The background. You name it. If you are not a lover of Classical radio (my favorite band is Led Zeppelin), give Minnesota Radio a listen (I stream it wherever I am around the world), and you discover (or re-​discover) classical music like you have never experienced.
Specifically during the Christmas season, there is no other station anywhere that comes close. If you get tired of all the Rudolph, Frosty, Santa songs… give a listen to Minnesota Radio instead.

MPR is just a fantastic news and music source. It’s always on in my house (streaming from the internet) and my car. Love it!

If you aren’t listening to this you are missing out on everything that is great about this Twin Cities. We stream the Current everywhere we can! When we are away or overseas the Current always kept us connected to home.

Since Moving Away this is what I miss the most. I still listen to it online but it’s not the same. Become a member! New to MPR? Start off slow by listening to a few episodes of Market Place and This American Life, election season is here so on Wednesdays Talk of the Nation’s Political Junkee is fun to listen to.

What can I say about MPR that everyone doesn’t already know!!! The Current was my lifeblood during grad school… I adored (and continue to adore) the random shows that are announced, the summertime Rock the Garden events, and the introduction to amazing music. The extremely talented and knowledgeable hosts keep you entertained and become friends very quickly!
Now that I have a «real job» and a daily commute in a car, I am a fanatic of morning news. I love the unbiased up-​to-​date news and the amazing interviews. I also love the longer news hours and the intriguing pertinent conversational approach to the interviews.
Yes, it is good to have MPR in my life!

How do I love thee, MPR?
Let me count the ways:
1) News with Sass. Thank you.
2)Midmorning with Kerri Miller. She may be kind of scary in person, but the lady is a great radio host. I love that she pulls from the local and national communities to bring highly relevant and highly insightful opinions to our corner of the Midwest.
3) NPR coverage. All Things Considered and Talk of the Nation are necessary for my daily life and for being up-​to-​date with what’s happening in the world.
4) The Website. All the relevant online news to both Minnesota and the rest of the world. Minnesota Today is great for people like me who don’t have a TV but still like to know what’s happening in town.
5) Great RSS feeds. Sometimes, I need a break from my glamorous editing job to putz around. MPR makes it easy by having everything pop right up in my feed reader of choice.

Mid Morning highlights: travel insight, book discussion’s, interesting guests.
The only thing Id change is Carrie Millers voice. terrible!
All things considered: Good variety of topics.

MPR is a national leader in public radio, innovating with their programming and offering. Their three stations get 75% of my radio time and at home, Radio Heartland gets my morning radio time over the internet.

MPR… you are about the best public radio I’ve heard since OPB (Oregon Public Broadcasting). Relevant, interesting and well-produced…why are there not many more stations like this across the country?

I know not this Current of which the other reviewers speak, since I can’t manage to unglue myself from the real deal, the news channel. My commute is super-​short (thank GAWD) so I don’t get much air-​time, but I cannot do without my daily fix of Morning Edition and All Things Considered. MPR gets it all just right and is serious about their local news, too. I haven’t even had the need to hit «search» on my radio — the dial has not changed from 91.1 since I’ve moved here.

I am a «news junkie», I love listening to this station in my car. It’s a great way to get caught up on all the latest headlines around the country and world. They also have some pretty good discussions that aren’t only about the news, but about new books and what not.
I enjoy it a lot!

I don’t happen to live anywhere near St. Paul, but I stream The Current all day, every day while becoming more and more infatuated with this organization as time goes by. I think my IPM (infatuation per minute) has risen to about 89.3! Ha, radio joke…
I feel like this station (The Current, particularly) has tapped into my brain and regurgitates to me, everything I love and hold dearly, as well as show me things that I didn’t know that I loved so much. On what other station can you hear The Clash, Lily Allen, The New Pornographers, Outkast, Radiohead, Wilco, MIA, and Johnny Cash all being played during the same radio show?
The radio personalities are always quality individuals and not over-​the-​top in their broadcasting. Great, great, great choices of music and the perfect amount of commentary. Sometimes I just want to fly out to Minnesota so I can hang out with these people in the studio. Could I? We’ll see. In the meantime, I will just be here, streaming The Current for 18 hours straight.
