The Lyric at Carleton Place

What I thought would be a temporary living arrangement wound up being the place I lived for three years and loved it. I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone looking for a centrally located place in the Twin Cities. It is modern, and professionally run. If you have any issues for maintenance you can simply submit them over the Internet and they get taken care of right away. It is kept clean and there are several rooms to entertain and hang out including rooftop.

I’ve been living here for two years and just began my third year. I really enjoy this community. It is very quiet. I don’t hear anything from my neighbors. The managers are professional and friendly. The maintenance is always efficient. And lately we have a new book club and are going to set up movie club, cooking club, multi culture club, and so on… This makes me love here even more.

2 years later and I am still here at the lyric! I wanted to write an update because management has changed and they are so much better! Poor David who left a review in July didn’t get a chance to experience said new management. I really love living here, been here for over 3 years and I hope to stay here for a long time.

I lived at The Lyric for 3 years, and during that time, they must have had at least 6 different property managers. It seems that the management is always in flux, and thus any communication with them is always sorely lacking. They do not make clear the expectations of the residents until it is too late, and often back out of previous statements just to make themselves look good. I’ve also had difficulty getting management to answer emails.
The apartments are nice to look at at first, but the construction eventually ends up showing its cheapness. Our apartment had holes in the wall around some power outlets. There was space between the baseboards and the carpet for things to get stuck inside. The cabinetry in the kitchen was designed badly, so the doors often hit each other and left marks, and the corner cabinet had a large gap on the bottom that things could fall through. The bedroom doors are not actual latching doors, but sliding doors which are only attached to a top rail, and that have no method of latching closed. The track that the balcony door slid on often collected water in it during rainfall, leaving behind dirt caked inside the track. The bathtub had a rubber textured coating on the bottom that made it very difficult to keep clean. The paneled kitchen floor warped when any moisture touched it.

I lived at the Lyric for 2.5 years and liked it at first. The apartments are very nice. Great amenities. Somewhat dog-​friendly, though you cannot take dogs in the elevators, and that makes living on a higher floor kind of a hassle. They do have a lot of «poop stations» around the property, which is very convenient, but if you are going to be dog-​friendly, be really dog-​friendly and allow dogs in the elevators.
I found management to be responsive, though somewhat tough, but I didn’t mind that cuz I am a rule follower and believe the rules make for a more pleasant place to live.
I moved in not long after the building opened and at first I liked it, but as the months ticked by more and more students moved in and it began to feel like an expensive dorm. Most other tenants were not very friendly. When they raised the rent significantly, I got out. I’m sure the rent increase was tied to the impending opening of the light rail, but while the building is nice, the rents are too high for the area — its very industrial, there isn’t much you can walk to.
