History

Established in 1986.

Returning from Europe in 1985, where I was taught how to turn spindles for staircases, I immediately founded The Turning Point Woodworks in 1986, specializing in woodturning of anything needing to be turned from wood. I also turned to house painting as well as carpentry specializing in older home restoration, fabricating older house parts that are not available on the open market anymore, but must be custom made. Since then, I make a point to use historic lumber, original glass on windows and historic hardware where applicable. Much of my exterior architectural wood turning and house repair work employs the use of reclaimed lumber.

Tom Guelcher is a craftsman and an artist.

Founder and sole owner of the Turning Point Woodworks Inc. Studied woodturning in Berlin Germany for 3 years with a master wood turner, Went on to Denmark and studied the making of fine tobacco pipes for 1 year. Now has a fully equipped 2500 sq. ft. woodworking/​woodturning shop in S. Mpls. MN. In his off time, he likes fishing, camping, traveling, hunting and playing chess.
