I have been going to this shop for MANY years. The owner in indeed from the UK and I think people often confuse the English culture for«dismissive», but that is not the case. If you are looking for something she doesn’t carry, she isn’t going to try to pressure you into buying something just because you walked in, which I think is refreshing giving people the freedom to browse. The owner has taken classes at the Royal School in England and has VAST knowledge of all types of needlework, especially needlepoint. Her education and needlework experience is definitely a resource not found at many needlework shops in New England. I am as working/middle class as they come and have NEVER found her or her shop to be snobby and have recommended her to several friends. She also has great trunk shows so you might want to keep an eye on her website for those and plan your trip accordingly.

I’ve been to this store multiple times in the past several years, and the owner is a delightful woman. I believe she’s originally from the U.K. She’s very knowledgeable and experienced with needlepoint. She’s also very patient and helped me choose threads for a needlepoint project and taught me a particular stitch for one portion of my canvas. She also teaches classes in the shop, which is spacious and well-organized. Her canvases and threads are reasonably priced. She’s definitely a valuable resource in the Salem area.

Unfortunately this is one of those unfortunate snobby craft stores. I believe I dealt with the owner or manager. I mentioned I was looking for a small project for travel and that I cross stitched. She obviously finds cross stitch a lesser needle art and the atmosphere went from chilly to frigid and I was«dismissed». I did say I would have some interest in an embroidery project as an alternative but she clearly deemed me a complete beginner and was not interested in helping me. What a fool! Why bother going out of my way to shop at independents if their service is so appalling. How does she compete with the internet treating people like that? On my way out I heard her being equally rude to another customer. Never again for me.
