History

Established in 2003.

Edgemaster Mobile Sharpening was started by Jon Holmquist because there was a need for sharp cutlery in commercial and residential kitchens. Jon and his friend Howard built and improved the Edgemaster Model 400 which is the basis for the sharpening work we do.

The machine was tested in the field for 2 years and has proven itself to do an excellent job very quickly on most cutlery. We now have 8 people franchised to do sharpening under the name Edgemaster Mobile Sharpening.

We custom sharpen cutlery to the specific desires of each customer and keep the kitchen workers much more effecient at doing the job they want to do. Sharp knives make fast work of cutting, slicing, dicing and chopping product. We say, «keep the cooks happy and the whole facility works better».

We also have knives for sale or lease, for restaurants that don’t want to tie up capital in cutlery.

Meet the Business Owner

Jon H.

Business Owner

Jon has been an entrepreneur all his life from lawn mowing at 13 years old to the present. He started the sharpening franchise at age 70 but has his son, Darren and his Daughter Dana Hennelly getting ready to take the business over so he may be able to retire.

The son of a minister, his family moved from Minnesota to Oregon when he was 10 and except for short stays in Washington and Idaho, he has been in Oregon ever since. He has done a bunch of other professions, but by going to school and studying each one, his knowledge is spread over many areas. He likes working with people and likes to get along rather than dispute relationships.

Jon says that this is the largest project he has ever attempted and is excited to make it his most successful. This business gives many people, male and female, the chance to be in business for themselves but not by themselves. Edgemaster is dedicated to helping the franchisees iron out the little ridges of business ownership.
