Flying Saucer Pizza Company

Any time I am in the area, I stop at flying saucer. The pizza here is so delicious! I usually order the buffalo chicken one, or custom make my own with garlic, spinach, chicken and cheese! My mother SWEARS by the BBQ chicken one.
The décor is interesting, and it’s always fun to watch sci-​fy reruns on tv!
The prices are fairly reasonable, and the pizzas are a good size. And they hold up well so they are just a delicious for breakfast!

I didn’t eat here, so I can’t comment on the pizza, but their beer list was pretty eclectic and the décor extremely timely. Very science fictiony with a focus on Star Wars and Star Trek.
The piece de resistance being a full sized Locutus of Borg in one corner.
Service was prompt and friendly and helped create an overall good vibe.
Definitely want to come back and try a pie.

So we tried this place twice including the gluten free pizza (great first time but then they dropped their vendor and decided to do their own which was not good). Atmosphere is cool but the food was just ok.

TOP NOTCH PIZZA!!! I loved my award winning pizza (named) with meatballs. It reminded me of a fresh, homemade gravy dinner on Sundays! So freaking good! The sauce was damned tasty, the meatballs were seasoned oh so perfectly, the burrata was creamy and heavenly that I just couldn’t get enough (til I ran out)!
Eat uour «flying saucer pizza» NOW, or you’ll be sorry you missed out.

I like to sit at the bar here. They’ve got some good brews on tap and friendly staff to help make it happen. They usually have something educational and interesting on the tv — last time I had a pie for lunch, I watched a documentary about outer space and organisms. Cool. and some good conversation with the gentleman behind the bar.
Pizza is good. Beer dough is good. Vegan options if you’re into that kind if thing. Casual, easy. It’s expensive for pizza but their ingredients are fresh and the pie is flavorful.

The manager needs an attitude change. She made my experience at Flying Saucer terrible. So sad because the other staff seem friendly and hard working. I hope she doesn’t treat her staff as bad as her customers. Unbelievably rude.

So delicious. I like to call this «gourmet toppings on gourmet crust» instead of just «pizza» –the word does not do it enough justice.
You have to judge a pizza place first on the way they do their plain cheese. Sauce, cheese blend, and crust come together to make cheesey pizza goodness. It’s exactly what you want, but even better. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
Specialty flavors are where they shine. They have a variety of sauce bases and toppings, even some for vegetarians/​vegans. My personal favorite is the Face of Boe (now retired, but you can customize your pizza), which was a pesto base, with cheese blend, mozzerella, artichokes, and portobello mushrooms. Some of the combos get really interesting and use ingredients such as sweet potatoes, Canadian bacon, balsamic figs, and pico de gallo. All flavors are named after sci-​fi characters/​places to go with the décor, which makes Flying Saucer worth a visit on its own. You do get what you pay for, so these delicious pies are a bit pricier than most!
The one downside is they do not have a lot of seating, and they get VERY crowded. Expect to wait for a table Thurs-​Sun, and if you have more than 5 – 6 show up early. They oft drop the ball on orders, so if you feel like you’re waiting too long, make sure to hunt down your waiter/​waitress because we’ve had them misplace orders on multiple occasions. On the plus side, waitstaff are all local and very friendly.
That being said, the quality of the food more than makes up for the spotty service. This is a must stop if you are traveling to anywhere on the North Shore. Be sure to try the beer crust!

Fantastic staff and even better pizza. I ate here twice on Halloween this year, late lunch and way late drunk munchies dinner. I was quoted with about 20 minutes for a slice both times. And both times the slice came out before 10 minutes had even passed. They are huge portions (¼) pizza so don’t be fooled by the price tag. You’re getting way more than a bargain! This was our first stop upon arriving in Salem on Halloween day. There was a line waiting to get in as soon as the doors opened and the hostess was a bit overwhelmed. It was a sunny, cool (not cold) October day and they opened up seating outside to accommodate the crowd and still there was a line. The hostess did ask if we would mind sitting outside and as seating was in the sun, we thought it was a great idea!
We ordered a pizza to share and drinks. The drinks came out in good time, along with silverware, napkins, etc. I ran inside to use the ladies, and there was (not surprisingly) a line there too. There are four ‘single’ restrooms shared by this restaurant and the one next door in a common hallway at the back. Unfortunately one of the ladies rooms was out of order (Gads!) so there was a line. After walking through the restaurant, I sort of wished we had waited for an inside table. This restaurant is really cute. Lots of odd little paintings on the walls. Lots to look at — too much to see as you are just passing through.
Our waitress was very nice, attentive and answered our questions about the pizza and the craft beers. It did take a while for the pizza to arrive but it was worth the wait. Thin crust, good cheese, fresh toppings, nice sauce. It’s all good with this pizza. One small was just right for our party of three.

The build your own pizza was awesome. It tasted delicious. Mildly pricey, but it rescued me on Halloween when I was hungry and tired. Our server was dressed as Sally from the Nightmare Before Christmas. She was everything we could ask for in a server. The «Iron Chef» was really nice too. The girl dressed as the angel Castiel from Supernatural was incredibly rude and ruined the atmosphere. I understand Salem on Halloween is crazy and stressful but that is no reason to be mean and rude. That is truly why I rate it ⁴⁄₅ stars. I would’ve been more likely to recommend this place if I hadn’t met her. Don’t let this deter you from ordering out though!

Best freakin pizza!!! Definitely the best in massachusetts!!! Vicky was Egh… JK she was super COOL!!! But back to the pizza… Come here for really good pizza, not a tourist trap! I been to lots of pizza places and this one takes them all! Got the Silurian pizza with white sauce and no peppers and OMG soooo good!!! The Saucer cheese mix is fantastic! Really can’t go wrong! Got good beer selection too! So glad we came here!

Visiting Salem and staying at a B&B and needed some grub, but was too lazy to walk downtown again. So, pizza.
Ordered through the app and they called to inform us that delivery would be about two hours. We agreed because we weren’t going anywhere. It arrived way quicker and was totally worth the wait. Plus, the delivery guy was super nice about the confusion with finding the place.
The Picard: roasted potatoes, Canadian bacon and rosemary. Yum. Highly recommended.
The Audrey II (love the names btw) was also delicious, with roasted red peppers, arugula and some kind of balsamic swirl.
If you’re visiting Salem and want some truly good pizza, visit or order a couple pies. You won’t be disappointed.

This place has amazing pizza! We had the Marty McFly pizza and it was very good and unique. We got the original crust but they have three choices of original, beer, and multigrain. The atmosphere of the restaurant is really neat with lots of space décor.
The only negative thing I have to say is that the bathrooms are horrible and when we sat down, the table wasn’t cleaned off.

Came here with my boyfriend on a Saturday afternoon and little to our surprise, it was very busy. We were lucky that they had a booth open! Our waitress was very nice and very attentive but it was clear that she felt rushed.
We ordered a small «Ender» pizza and it was probably the most unique pizza we’ve ever had. It had sliced Cajun chicken, broccoli, bacon, scallions, and was drizzled in a sweet and spicy habanero sauce; all nestled on a yummy beer crust. So delicous! The small came with 8 slices and we left with only two… it was that good.
All in all it was a good experience but I think we would come back at a time when it’s not too busy. Definitely recommend if you’re in the area!

Since writing my last review, I have been to flying saucer three times. Each time the pizza was great, as always, but the service has also improved immensely compared to my prior experiences. Wait staff was attentive and sweet. Keep up the great work, Flying Saucer! Good pizza, good service, good atmosphere, good beer selection.

I met up with a friend last week so I could try the vegan pizza at Flying Saucer. Vegan pizza is tough to find — and GOOD vegan pizza is a rare and wonderful thing!
The inside dining area is a bit shabby looking — not a huge deal, just not what I expected. We opted to eat outside at one of the café tables. Our server was very nice: she was attentive as well as personable. We ordered the Jupiter Salad (feta on the side) to share as an appetizer. It was good and I liked the way they serve it («layered» rather than tossed) but I thought it was a bit thin on the good stuff — the grapefruit pieces and cucumber.
For dinner we chose the Sirulian, vegan. The description was just too unusual not to try! It’s basically a vegan cheese pizza topped with roasted red peppers and vegan Mac-​n-​cheese. We both thought it was very tasty (can you say carb overload?!). Flying Saucer uses Teese vegan cheese rather than Daiya, its more well known competition. The Teese cheddar is definitely better tasting!
Overall a very good experience and I would definitely return.

My husband «hates pizza» but couldn’t stop eating the Mars Attacks pizza from Flying Saucer Pizza Company. The pizza was amazing.
The Space Balls appetizer was also delicious, and there was a decent beer selection. I’d love to return if I’m ever in Salem again. The service was also very friendly, and we were able to sit outside. :)
It was also really good value, too… total bill with tip was 35 — not bad!
Tip: the «small» pizza is actually quite large ;)

This place is so hip and interesting! The name «flying saucer» definitely alerts you to the theme inside – there are spaceships hanging from the ceiling, alien photos on the walls, and murals saying «Live Long & Pizza.»
Our server was really sweet and helpful even though she seemed super busy.
I decided to make my own pizza ($ 10 for a small 12″ pie +$ 1/​topping) as their pre-​selected pies were the same price (i.e. a small pizza with 4 toppings was $ 14). I went with house crust (they also have beer (!?), multigrain and gluten-​free!), white sauce (they also have red or pesto), saucer cheese (the basic cheese – they also have mozzarella, goat cheese, feta, and diaya vegan cheese), green peppers, caramelized onions, and cherry tomatoes.
The pizza came in about 15 minutes and was super visually appealing. The cheese was good – tasted kind of milky in a good way. The peppers were crunchy and the caramelized onions were sweet. The crust was the perfect mix of crunchy outside and doughy inside. The pizza is big and is easily 2 – 3 meals.
My friends ordered a custom pizza with half cheese and half no cheese (one has a dairy allergy) and they were disappointed when it came with half cheese and half diaya cheese. They at first thought they had gotten someone else’s pizza incorrectly, and when they asked about it the server said they would remake it no problem, but it would still take about 15 more minutes, which was a bit awkward because the other two pizzas had already arrived. She then came back again to apologize for the mistake.
When the bill came, they didn’t charge them for anything, which was very thoughtful!
I’d definitely come back!
Note: the bathrooms are kind of awkward. They are shared with the café next door and although it seems like you push open into a larger area with multiple stalls, they are actually 4 single use bathrooms (2 marked female, 2 marked male). Awkward waiting in hallway encounters are inevitable…
EDITED: I changed my review from 5 to 4 stars after eating a day’s worth of leftovers. The saucer cheese, which was milky in a good way the day of, became kind of sickeningly milky the next day. I would add another type of cheese to the saucer cheese or substitute it altogether next time. However, the crust held up wonderfully!

wow. what a disappointment. I don’t normally make it a habit of writing bad reviews but this one takes the cake.
definitely could have made better pizza myself. absolutely no flavor whatsoever. I should let you know I bought the kokiri pizza which I think is their version of a margarita pizza. but, the crust was too hard, the sauce tasted like jarred sauce and the mozzarella was barely existent and not even melted. there was a smattering of basil. and, it was very dry. like a 5 year old made it. the worst $ 20 i’ve spent in a long time. I can’t say it enough… no flavor whatsoever! It was like someone made the pizza and forgot to put some key ingredient in there. or melt the cheese. blahhhhh! wish Upper Crust was still there.

My husband and I went to Salem for our honeymoon back in 2013. As soon as we set eyes on Flying Saucer Pizza Company, we knew that we absolutely needed to eat there. However, for some reason we kept pushing it off and I have no idea why. We both love pizza way more than any person should, and yet we didn’t eat there for the longest time. It finally came to the last day of our honeymoon, and as we were walking around Salem for the last time, we realized our mistake! We hadn’t tried Flying Saucer Pizza Company! It was morning and we really thought that we had completely screwed ourselves out of some really awesome pizza. However, we thankfully did not, and we actually ended up being the first customers of the day.
I had one of the best pizzas of my life here. Scratch that; I had THE best pizza of my life here. I’m almost certain that the pizza I had was called «The Great Deku.» However, I’m not seeing it on their current menu when I look at their website. I’m truly hoping that they just changed the name to something else and that they didn’t actually get rid of this kick-​ass pie. I’ll truly be so sad if they did. Please, FSPC, don’t let that be the case!
Any pizza lovers in Salem most definitely have to be sure to stop by Flying Saucer Pizza Company at least once. Extra points if you’re a geek and can actually enjoy the awesome names of all the pizzas; my husband and I truly got a kick out of them. I can’t wait until I find myself in Salem once again and can return to this pizza heaven. And next time I definitely need to be sure to get one of their adorable delivery boxes to take home (because I’m weird and collect things like that). But really, who doesn’t want some Space Pug on cardboard?
