I also received my LPN at IOT and I’m going to give the most fair review I can.
Pros:
*Your classes are all relevant to your work. No bs prerequisites like music appreciation or history. Your classes touch on these things, but it’s all relevant to your job.
*It’s only one year. I had to give up the RN program I was in after I found out I was pregnant. Hubby and I agreed on one year more of in-​class, so I took this route.
*You will pass your NCLEX. The entire program has tests that are essentially NCLEX questions. For me, the NCLEX was ridiculously easy after this program.
*There are people there who want you to pass, and will help you do so any way they can. There are good teachers and there are bad teachers. But you can believe if nothing else that their accreditation is determined by their pass rate. They want you to pass.
* They work with you. My son had to have surgery during my second term and I missed two weeks of school. They worked with me to make up my clinical hours and get my homework turned in, etc. Not every «traditional» nursing school would do that.
* Bad grades are not the end of the world. Some nursing schools kick you out if you biff a test. I’m awful at school, but good at hands-​on application.
Now for the cons.
*Cost. It costs the average LPN 12,000 dollars to become an LPN, bs classes and all. It costs 30,000 at IOT. The debt-​to-​income ratio is ridiculous. And I am now paying for my BSN out of pocket because my debt is too high for further assistance with school.
*Treatment. There are good teachers and other employees. But there are also bad ones. Once you’re stuck in a contract, they can treat you any way they want. They can be rude, condescending and downright disrespectful. And some of them are. One girl had a private email forwarded to the entire class. I asked for a new clinical site after I realized I had gotten NO real practical experience during my three terms of clinicals and was refused because «you’ll get it on the job.» Sadly, I was so clueless, I lost my first job because nursing homes are not exactly kind to the learning curve. By the same standard, I can’t believe that some of their students are allowed to talk to the teachers and to each other the way they do. The blatant disrespect sickened me. I can only assume that no one was kicked out because it would mess with their numbers as a for-​profit school.
* For 30 thousand dollars, you’d think you get a bit more updated equipment to practice on. The instructors did their best with what they have, but you can only do so much when you can’t keep the practice dummy’s genitals in place for foley insertion and your IV pump is 20 – 30 years old.
* Nothing transfers. This means credits. It’s one of the devils of trade school. Your credits mean nothing anywhere else. So if you want to get your BSN or RN, you’re still going to have to do those bs classes, or spend another 60 grand on another trade school because I have yet to find an LPN-​to-​RN trade school in Oregon.
So there you go. That’s the most honest review I can give. There are pros and cons, like every other school and, like every other school, you need to do your research ahead of time and make certain you know what you’re getting into. If you want to get your LPN fast and don’t have the option of traditional school like I didn’t, it’s a great option. Just realize that you’re going to have to be assertive for certain aspects of your education, and be prepared for the likelihood that some of your classmates will entirely forget that they are grown adults.

It was a great experience at the school with very good instructors. I enjoyed my time there and received an education to help me in a vocation.

I liked school, was it perfect «no» but i did my time, had a few good teachers and got a job after so can’t complain.

I receive my Lpn education at institute of technology, in Salem. It was hard hard work but it has payed off, and I now have a great job. Thank you to all the nice staff and educators for all you did for me. Graduating class: August 2014.

Institute of Technology — Salem Campus, these guys suck! Very, Very few people in her class got jobs! From what I heard Kaiser Permanente will not take any of there graduates due to a bad experience with a graduate. She also had to find her own free internship doctor. Can’t find a job in the field she was trained in years after! This was a total waste of money. Why have training for a a profession that has no openings?
