Silver Spur

Could use a few improvements, but otherwise a good fun time! Some of the tables are wobbly etc…

Fun place to go drink and dance. Although I feel the drinks are way to expensive and sometimes it takes awhile to get your drink. Other then that it’s a pretty good place.

Great place to dance. Dance lessons are great and free! DJs are friendly and the bartenders mix a good drink. Until about midnight its country music for the most part. At some point later in the evening it turns to hip hop. The new dance floor is awesome.

Always a fun place! However, this is a place people go to drink (and dance) but the bar takes foreverrrrrrrr. Long lines everytime. Poorly made drinks, light on alcohol and the wait is just too long.

The Spur is a long time establishment in Salem. When I went there over 10 years ago, it was what I would consider a country and western bar: loud, cowboy hats, chew and boots. The music was quality and the beer cold.
However, times have changed. I went to the Spur last Saturday with my boyfriend and we were both looking forward to a nice two step around the floor. It was a colossal disappointment. First, the DJ announced the line dance between every song, which dropped the enthusiasm of the dancers. Additionally, the DJ played through a whole line dance song when there were less than 10 dancers on the floor. Furthermore, there was not one two-​step played. I’m just stating my observations on this particular night. Maybe it was a new DJ? I did express my concerns to the couple taking money at the door.
Tonight (10÷24÷15) I got a message saying that there is a format where there are now partner dances being played, including two-​step. I haven’t been to verify.

This is my favorite bar in Salem. The only thing I don’t like about it is the older bar tenders. Last weekend she charged me $ 8.50 for my drink. It was Malibu and pineapple juice. Every other bar I’ve been to its a $ 6 for that drink. And it takes forever when using a debit card, because they have an older register. Think its time for an upgrade, the spur makes enough money to buy some more updated machines.

You’ve got to be heading there early in the night in order to get your money’s worth on the cover charge. Dancing was lots of fun though, but it seems like the country dancing ends at midnight. Definitely planning on bringing friends back with me!

Went for a comedy show had a blast was a great place. I felt odd walking into what seemed to be a cowboy bar but it was a great time. They had great food specials also $ 1 toots and fries and even a $ 1 burger! The comedy show was great and the price was even better! (free.99) Drinks at the bar are priced right I got a bottled beer for 3 bucks and they staff was very nice!

This bar is only a couple months old and looks like they’re doing everything right.

This place is small but great to line dance or if you’re like me too watch the pros do their thing. Everyone here was very friendly. The bar really had the essence of that country charm. The Jello shots were amazing!

Of the handful of line dancing places I’ve been to in TX, CA and OR, this is by far the best. There is never a shortage of line dancing songs, and people in the crowd are always helpful if you don’t know how to move your feet. At midnight, the music switches and it becomes more of a regular club scene, but there are some die-​hard fans that continue to line all through the night. Great find!

I love the spur. It’s a real country bar with great ambiance and good drink prices. It gets crowded but I never have trouble finding my way back to the bar although some nights the line does get backed up.
Most people there are not there because it’s convenient, they come because they actually want to be there, and I think that makes the vibe really awesome and fun!
There are only two things that I don’t like
1. They stop playing country at 12am so I usually leave around them
2. The DJ doesn’t change the songs up too much.
But, if you’re into line dancing and having a fun time it really doesn’t matter. They also have lessons at 7:30pm as far as I know.

Don’t run a tab because you don’t have to be the person with the card to order and anyone can say «Hey put it on so and sos tab».

I never really go anywhere other than my 3 places around my home and never go anywhere with a cover charge, but I love the silver spur! I always have such a great time here, everyone I talk to out here just wants to have a great time and the line dancing is suuuuper fun! Will definately go back because I know its gonna be a good time each time I go back! Love it!

Could be a little cleaner, but it is a bar– besides that the atmosphere is friendly and the food is super cheap. Comedy night is awesome! Cowboy themed.

Was born and raised in Salem but had never gone to a bar here in my life since I ended up going to school in LA. Currently home for the holidays, I went out with some of the girls for a bachelorette party here and ended up having a blast.
It’s a $ 5 cover charge, which I think is a steal compared to the $ 20 cover charge in Hollywood, and drinks are relatively cheap as well. Most shots are around 6-​ish dollars and so are the mixed drinks. They have the basic beers on tap but nothing too fancy.
They play country music until midnight and you can expect a lot of line dancing, but it isn’t nearly as bad as it sounds. Even if you jump in without a clue as to what you’re doing, no one is gonna judge you, and let’s hope they’re too tipsy to notice ;) Once it’s 12, they play contemporary and top 40 music.
You can expect a crowd of older cowboys and cowgirls and a bunch of students. I definitely saw some cougars wrangling in some of the youngins haha. All in all, a good place to have some laid-​back fun.
WARNING: DO NOT PARK NEAR THE LONE OAK TAVERN. Apparently they have a stick up their ass and are completely bitter due to the fact that their tavern remains vacant and depressing while everyone piles into Silver Spur. If you are parked ANYWHERE near them, they find it necessary to go and have your cars towed since they have nothing better to do than to wallow in their misery. Two of my friends got their cars illegally towed, as there weren’t any signs indicating they couldn’t park there. It was $ 250 to get the cars back. Buzzkill.

Okay, I am very anti-​cover charge. But if I’m going to be gettin’ free square dance lessons all night to all the top jams, I’m in! :D

Anytime I’m in Salem and going out is in the stars… The Spur is top priority!
