Talecris Plasma Resources is located near downtown Salem, on the corner of Belmont and Liberty Streets, near the Salem Chamber of Commerce.

Our donation center is a clean, customer-​driven center with an experienced team that will help ensure your donation is completed in a safe and comfortable manner. Our flexible hours will accommodate your busy life and schedule, and we have ample parking located just behind our center on Market Street. History

Established in 1950.

In 1950, Dr. Jose Antonio Grifols Jr. was an early pioneer of the plasmapheresis technique, the process of extracting human plasma. This technique was embraced by the global medical community and remains one of the most frequently used plasma extraction processes. The donation process, or plasmapheresis, takes as little as 90 minutes and is performed using automatic equipment and other sterile, non-​reusable materials in a plasma donation center. Collecting plasma is the first step in the process of making specialized protein therapies. We rely on individuals to donate their plasma to provide source material for protein therapies.

Other than the initial first day which took five hours my experience was less overwhelming then I imagined and the staff were very professional and courteous.
I have since been back several times and invite others to donate.

So I was deferred a few years ago from donating, not because there was something wrong with my plasma, or that I had some STD or something, but because I have a shellfish allergy. SHELLFISH. I was told that if they changed their SOP (standard operating procedure) I could donate again. Well, they did but now I’m told that once on the list forever on the list. So apparently having an allergy really makes you a hazard, nice Talecris, nice

A friend of mine asked me to go with her to Talecris to donate plasma for our good deed of the year (and to get some extra cash — I guess that negates our good deed!) It took a total of six hours as we were first timers. There’s a lot of hoops you have to jump through on your first visit. You do not need an appointment and can just walk in but I suggest going very early if it’s your first time. You must bring a current picture ID, a social security card, and fill out the registration form. Then you will be called up several times for an in depth screening and to make sure you are not a needle junkie or into other high risk behavior.
You can all rest assured that I passed with flying colors and I didn’t even laugh when I was asked if I had just returned from the Congo or had been in contact with anyone with ebola. I proudly displayed my track free elbows and finger webs and gleefully gave a urine sample to prove that I wasn’t on pain meds or methamphetamines. Boo-​yah! I passed everything!
The actual procedure wasn’t much fun and consists of a needle poke by a large hollow needle. After blood is taken out and spun around in the machine, your red blood cells are returned to you and then the next cycle begins.
I shivered, I shook, I almost passed out, but the staff were on me like white on rice to get me quickly feeling better and I am very happy to say that, after a long day, it was mission accomplished!
If you refer a friend and they donate twice you get 50 bucks, and you really are doing a good deed by donating plasma as it is used to create medicine for those with blood illnesses. Earn some points with the man upstairs and go do your good deed today.
