Tangled Purls

Decent selection of yarn, but I did not feel comfortable shopping here. The sales lady followed me around the store watching me as if she thought I was going to steal something. I didn’t get to look as much as I wanted because I felt uncomfortable, so settled on something I wanted to buy. I have never been to a LYS like this and not had them offer to wind the yarn for me, but she did not. So I asked, and she said it was broken that day (I like to think she was being honest but who knows). I will drive out of my way to the Silverton yarn store — it is much better:)

If you’re a knitter/​crocheter in the Salem area you have to stop by this place! The staff are so nice and helpful and they have a big selection of yarn, patterns, and supplies at a good price point. I used to live in Salem and would come to their weekly knitting group which I really enjoyed. Great atmosphere, great people, and great selection!

My BFF lives in Salem and every time I visit her I stop by this lovely shop! They are kind and helpful; (I’m sorry I don’t know her name) but she helped me fix a problem with my knitting project and was helpful in looking for a specific item. The shop has a lot of variety, even for people like me with lanolin allergies. She was also awesome in making sure I stayed away from those sections of yarn. I plan to visit this shop on all my visits to Salem!

One staff member was way too serious. I was kidding when I remarked that they put the crocheters in the corner… I don’t remember what his remark was, as it has been a long time since I have been back… I just remember it was sarcastic.

This is my hometown knitting shop and I cannot say enough nice things about it! The staff are just awesome and most helpful. The owner really seems to pay attention to what people want and she carries a vast variety of gorgeous yarns and knitting supplies. I highly recommend this shop!

After a hiatus, I decided to dive back into the wild world of knitting and I can’t say enough great things about Tangled Purls! I’ve driven by their store on Commercial Street for years now and finally decided to pop in take a look.
The employees are fun and friendly and their yarns are to die for! There are so many natural fibers, hand dyed colors and great knitting ideas, I don’t even know where to start.
Prices are reasonable, they have a quite a few knitting classes and the place is totally cute. Look forward to my next trip — thinking about knitting a new hat…

Since we were already in Salem today, and because I’d looked online to see if there was a yarn store there (gotta checkum all out, right?), Husband and I took some time to go visit Tangled Purls. It was my first time there, and I wasn’t disappointed. We were warmly greeted; Husband settled himself down on the couch while I browsed. The saleslady was extremely helpful; she was friendly but left me to browse on my own and answered my questions when I had them. She showed me samples of several yarns that had been knitted up, introduced me to the yarns by local artist, and helped me find patterns. She also modeled a lovely cowl for me when I asked to see it on (I bought the yarn for that)).
The shop is not large, but I hadn’t seen a lot of the yarns that they carry, which is always a treat. There was also fiber for handspinners like me, which was another pleasant surprise. There was a fairly large sale area in the back of the store, and I enjoyed looking through the yarns that were there (and several leaped into my hands when I wasn’t looking). The stock of needles and knitting notions was very good.
The store is a little hard to find; it’s tucked away on the lower level of the building it’s in, but signage was good. It’s much easier to find if you’re traveling from south to north.
All in all, this was a very pleasant yarn store experience. I appreciated having the freedom to browse to my heart’s content without being followed around. If I’m ever back in that area, I will definitely stop by again.
