Specialties

specialize in character cakes (Disney, Warner Brothers, Race cars, motorcycles and other Vehicles, 3-D Panda, 3-D Dolls, those which are allowed under copyright laws), cupcakes and wedding cakes. Cakes are never frozen (unless it is an ice cream cake). I use fake pearls and diamonds when bing-bing is wanted. Minion, Spiderman, ball cakes (football, soccer, baseball, basketball), football helmet with team logos seem to be the latest cakes. 90% of my cakes are very customized for the party’s theme.

History

Established in 1973.

The business began when people started advising me to earn money for my labor and tasty cakes. Amateur competition baking and the winning of the West Coast Best in Shows for more than 6 years gave the background for the business to begin. My parents 25th wedding anniversary was coming up and I could not afford to buy a beautiful wedding type cake, so I decided to make one. I used my Grandmother’s metal cylinder-plunger type decorator item with 6 tips and the cake was so beautiful. After the anniversary party, my Mother bought me the largest kit of tips from a cake decorating firm and that was the real beginning. I began buying cake pans and have amassed quite a collection. I’ve had cakes flown to Baltimore and travelled to Sacramento, Fresno and other distant places of party venues. Turf Club Catering had been a sponsor to me for over 30 years to hold the appropriate licenses until the state allowed Cottage Licenses. For many years I taught cake decorating at Hartnell & Gavilan.

Meet the Business Owner

Maxine C.

Business Owner

I come from a long line of bakers from my French and English side. I have updated many of my families’ recipes dating back a couple of hundred years and created my own recipes. Creating something from God’s bounties is special and the ultimate when a child’s face lights up or adults express delight with a wide-eyed look and big smile. I currently hold a Cottage A license, county health license, state health certificate, and City of Salinas business license. I have many Best of Shows, Best of Class, and 1st 2nd 3rd place wins for amateur baking competition (before starting my business). It is a pleasure to work with so many people and wonderful ideas for their party themes. I recently retired from the County of Monterey with 36 years in the accounting field. My academic specialties are Chemistry and Astro Physics. Baking is chemistry! I am easy to work with.
