Established in 1963.

Midas Auto Service is a third generation locally owned business, which has been serving Monterey County residents for over 47 years.

I made an appointment with Charlie for 10:30. I show up on time, and they tell me to come back in a few hours because they are backed up. I let them know I don’t live in town, and I don’t have time to be waiting. The manager rescheduled my appointment for the next day at 10:30, and gave me a coupon. I show up the next day, a little bit earlier and AGAIN, they say to come back later.
I need my oil change, so I decided to wait, only to find out that it was only a $ 5 dollar discount.
This is ridiculous. This is not the first time they do this to me at this John St location. They make appointments only to turn me away, reschedule, then turn me away again and again. They also did this to me at the North Main location, to which I wrote a review as well. I don’t have time to be making multiple trips to Salinas to keep getting rescheduled. Something needs to be done, because this is ridiculous.

My first review of Midas was maybe a bit distressed. Since then the owner Mr. Johnston reached out and contacted me. That move in it self is a wonder these days. He did offer me a free service (not accepted) which was a nice gesture. He had a talk with the crew and got the phone dialing thing down. Some strait communication is a good thing. My original review was the following: STOP! Read this first. You got all day right?
At the time I made my appointment I was told one hour, dropped the car off and I was told two. Oh well, please give me a call when your done please. I live about two miles away so I walk home.
4 ½ hours later… No call. Walk on down there, my car is sitting off to the side. I ask the guy at the desk is my car finished? Oh ya! About 3 hours ago. What about a call? I asked. A blank face and a sorry.
I get it there mechanics and there busy. But can they pick up a phone.

Vincent is the man for any of your needs. All options were explained to me and I felt no pressure for any of the services. Promotions were offered to help defray costs. Every step of the service process was told to me immediately.
Even though I am not from the area, I will surely be coming back for any of my service needs.

I got my oil changed on 9÷14÷13 the gentlemen that helped me Armando was really attentive and helpful letting me know something else was wrong with my car I really appreciated that so I could get it fixed I would so recommend my family and friends to come here great customer service over all I was satisfied :)

I we sent here to get a wheel stud replaced because America’s Tires broke one off (That’s another review.) They were also to replace two lug nuts that were damaged and of course the one on the broken stud. I said I wanted open end lug nuts to match the originals. He said he could do that. I showed him the lug nuts and verified again that he would get three new nuts same as OEM. When I took the cover off today I found that they left the two big old closed end lug nuts that America’s Tires put on and added a third one. He lied. Midas got me 30 years ago and this is the first time I have been back. They got me again. If I got a flat, my lug wrench would not fit these new lug nuts and I would be stuck.

Our car broke down in Salinas 2 hours into a road trip we had planned for months. we limped into the Midas on John St.
Every single person they have working their was gracious, smiling, helpful. They went above and beyond to get us to a rental car place in Monterey (the Salinas one closes at noon on Saturdays!). they had the nicest female employee come to drive us in their courtesy van 25 minutes into Monterey for the rental. She was so pleasant, helpful and patient as we loaded all of our gear and our two dogs in and out of the van. She refused a tip.
They stayed in touch with us while they were assessing the problem with our car, making sure we agreed to repairs.
When we returned 4 days later, the car was fixed. they even offered to return our rental for us (we were able to do that in Salinas this time so we did it ourselves).
i am so impressed with the professionalism, kindness, and honesty of this place. it really saved our trip to know that our car was being taken care of and we didn’t feel taken advantage of.
whoever runs this place realizes that the people you have working for you make or break your business. the people who work here MAKE this place what it is.
