Right Puppy Kennel

My daughter and I got our beautiful cream Shiba Inu last Mother’s Day, when she was eight weeks old! Her first drink was a sip of my Perrier!
Before we got her, I talked extensively with Kevin and his daughter, Danielle, about Shibas and dogs in general. I hadn’t had a dog in a long time. They were both so patient with me and answered all my questions.
Neither Danielle nor her dad are people-​oriented, and that is fine with me. In fact, pushy salespeople always drive me away. Right Puppy Kennel was just the opposite of that. They are obviously committed to their dogs. In fact, I found it very inspirational that Kevin would sink all his money into Danielle’s dream of raising Shibas and Tamaskans. Not every parent supports their children’s differences and choices. School and college are not for everyone.
We skyped with Danielle and Layla as soon as she was born, and continued to do so up until she flew to Texas from North Carolina. She arrived right on time, and has done beautifully. Our vet says she is very healthy and vibrant. She was spayed this past fall, and there are photos of her as a pup and with her plastic collar on the myshiba webpage. If you read some of the complaints on Unilocal that contain profanity, and put your faith in the kind of person who would write like that, then you’re just looking for a reason to hate this family and their business. Perhaps it’s their competitors that are causing this stir. Perhaps out of thousands of puppies sold over the years, yes, one percent may have problems. It’s just statistics. I wouldn’t blame the breeders.
It was obvious to me from the start that this family was honest with me, and wanted us to have the beautiful healthy puppy we have now.
Our only complaint is that she likes to nibble on my shoes – especially the Manolo Blahniks. Ha!
I hope all goes well for Danielle and Kevin. I can’t believe the way the have been treated by the police and the way they have become media pariahs! This teenage girl should be featured on Nickleodeon showing how a can-​do young girl can make her dreams come true.

I haven’t gotten anything from these guys, but it should be worth noting that though my research I came across this news post about Kevin and his daughter being arrested for sending out falsified health records of his puppies.

Kevin and his daughter are terrible people. They’ve lied about the health history of my puppy-​his mother is the daughter of two epilepsy carriers and they hid that from me and more! They gave my dog a fake pedigree and fake health certificate so my 8 week old puppy was probably shipped with no vaccines or protection at all. They have hidden my puppy’s father from me and refuse to tell me anything and make up excuses. They wont tell me anything about the father’s history or health or the mother’s and refuse to show me the father’s pedigree. I’m 100% certain that the dog is a random mutt who they got from a pound or something which is why my dog looks nothing like it is supposed to. They wont answer questions or if they do, they answer them with more lies. They’ve bred dogs with epilepsy so severe that one of the puppies was put down at 6 months old. They don’t test their dogs hips or anything and continuously breed their females to the point of death. They lie about what their dogs are and where they originate from. The daughter is just as bad as the father, you cannot trust a word either of them say. They also sell fake «Blustag tamaskan puppies» stay far away. Once they get your money, they dont give a damn and wont answer your questions and will send you sick puppies!

I got my shiba, Guinness, from right puppy kennel. We found out at 8 months old that he had bilateral patella luxation and bilateral hip dysplacia (severe genetic anomalies). For which Kevin said «I’ve never had any dog with problems like that in the years he had been breeding.» He encouraged us to put him down and he would give us another one. We informed him of our contract saying that he would pay for surgery up to the purchase price. After his second surgery and after many follow up emails he refunded our money for our Shiba. Never once did Kevin ever ask how he was doing. He is an extremely irresponsible breeder, so glad to get some justice for these dogs. We’ve spent over $ 5500 in surgeries and rehab for our dog, not to mention 1.5 years rehabbing him. I’ve worked hard at his rehab, he is doing great now but it’s been along road to recovery.

I’m giving this review 2 stars because despite shelling out thousands of dollars, I have a lovely wonderful goofy dog that is now in relatively good health. I purchased my dog from this breeder on a whim because I loved the look of the Tamaskan dog. After purchasing her I did slowly become aware of the contentiousness of all the Tamaskan breeders which is actually quite ugly.
Anyhow, my dog was severely underweight when I received her at 8 weeks old. The breeder advised me I should feed her some raw steak to «fatten her up». This poor dog had a weak appetite and terrible diarrhea for months. I took her back and forth to the vet where they dewormed her multiple times and claimed she had a sensitive stomach. I could not potty train this puppy for the life of me. She had accidents all over my house and even in her crate. I switched her to a trout and sweet potato based food and the issues began to slowly clear up.
At about a year and a half, she began having issues again. She was weak, depressed, and uninterested in food. Something did not seem right and I became very worried. She also appeared to have soreness in her hind legs so I took her to the vet immediately.
She had Addisons Disease! I could not have been more shocked. After about $ 2000 and 3 days staying overnight at the vets, I was sent home with instructions on buying expensive medications that would be needed everyday to keep her alive.
I had about a year and a half of paying for costly compounded meds that she had to be given daily, all the while she was still having a lot of ups and downs in her energy and appetite (consistent with Addisons). I was devastated and considered putting her down until I came across a wonderful forum for Addisons Dog owners. This forum gave me advice on medications and dosages which allowed me to pursue a lower cost, more effective treatment. Today, my dog is in wonderful health and is managed very well despite her disease. We expect that she will live a long, rich life.
When she was diagnosed, I did let the breeder know since Addisons is genetic. He assured me he was no longer breeding my dog’s sire and dam, and would send me a new dog if mine «expired early». At the time I didn’t think twice about this interaction.
Recently though, I became aware of many other dog owners that have purchased dogs from this breeder that have encountered a multitude of health issues and anyone who is looking to purchase a dog here needs to be made aware.
I also just read an article that this breeder was arrested for forging health records for the puppies they are selling. That is insane. I am praying that the Addisons disease is the last thing I have to deal with for my dog based on the comments of other dog owners that purchased from here. Sadly, its the dogs that will suffer in this case. I would not purchase from here again and the next time instead of paying $ 1000 for a designer mutt, I will save a dog from the shelter.

This kennel is a puppy mill. They will sell an often-​sick puppy to any clown with money, and fly it anywhere in the country — no questions asked. Their dogs usually end up in shelters because of this.
Their dogs consistently show poor health — infections, seizures, genetic disorders, etc. They were recently charged with forgery of health certificates. Which surprises no one, as a quick Right Puppy Kennel search reveals the many disgruntled dog owners who are now faced with the heartbreak of a life of health problems for their beloved pup.

If I could not give any stars I would. All the red flags were there but we chose to ignore them… All the reviews and info found on this place had us worried, then when the first dog we picked died at 5 weeks of age we really started to rethink our decision. But being already so invested (not just financially) it was hard to walk away. We ended up getting a puppy months later, only to have it arrive thin and covered in fleas. This is only our experience, but if you do your research others have had this happen to them or much worse. If you’re looking to get a Tamaksan dog, please go with a breeder that cares more about the dogs than the money. Also beware Right Puppy Kennel is now also operating under ‘Blustag Tamaskan’. These people will do anything to sell you a sick puppy to make a buck. What other breeder would have 5 litters at one time.

I am here to give you advice before you purchase any puppy from Kevin Settineri @ Right Puppy Kennel in North Carolina. Even when you have proven that his dogs have heridary defects including but not limited to rare heart failures, Kevin hide behind NC state laws and will knowingly sell you a dog with a heart murmur but will not disclose it. It is then up to you to ship the dog back at your cost to get a replacement shipped back at your cost. There is no option to keep the puppy and so when he sells your replacement puppy, he keeps that money as well.
I asked for months for my signed 10 year Health Guarantee he boasted about, and kept getting replies with the link to the website with an usigned bill of sale as the last page. The wording is tricky and will only favor Right Puppy Kennel in the end.
I was also very sure to ask for a pedigree that was promised, only to receive months later after many requests an application for 1 not even filled out properly by his young daughter.
When I told him that I want to keep the dog we fell in love with after many xrays and sonograms at the vet and just a $ 4k surgery possibility with a 50% fatality rate, I sent the vet report to him, the daughter replied that we needed to send the dog back to get checked out by their vet and then they could send a replacement. This would cost us two airline flights and risk getting yet another unfit dog, plus the knowledge that they would put our dog down. We have decided to give her the best life we possibly can which will incur two monthly prescriptions and the condition will only get worse.
She has been diagnosed with the following: (please read entire attached report)
6÷8÷2011 Ventricular Septal Defect cor triatriatum dexter
6÷8÷2011 Ascites
6÷8÷2011 Right heart failure
Under California State Law, the Californian purchaser has up to 1 year to file a claim based on hereditary disease. This State Law supercedes the ’10 year health guarantee’ provided by the seller. The resolutions as set by the State of California are the following:
1. Return your dog and receive a refund of the purchase price, plus sales tax, and receive reimbursement of reasonable veterinarian fees up to the cost of the dog plus sales tax.
2. Return your dog and receive a dog of your choice of equivalent value, providing a replacement dog is available, and receive reimbursement of reasonable veterinarian fees up to the cost of the dog, plus sales tax.
3. Keep the dog and receive reimbursement for reasonable veterinarian fees up to 150% of the original purchase price of the dog, plus sales tax on the original price of the dog.

I WISH THIS PUPPY MILL WOULD END! PLEASE READ FROM MY EXPERIENCE.
my boyfriend looked online to get me a puppy and didnt do his research quite well because he doesnt know much about puppy mills etc. so i decided to do them myself.
ANYWAYS, we got our shiba inu for $ 1200 from Right Puppy. I wanted to call the breeder myself and see how they ran their organization.
My first impression of Kevin Settineri (owner of this mill) was money hungry. All he wanted was our payment to go through which it did, after that, it was pretty much a done deal and our shiba was on its way to Canada.
A good breeder should learn where the puppy will go, if that buyer is ready for a shiba inu, and what to expect from the breed of dog. NONE of those questions were asked. he was ignorant and almost rude, he just cared about the payment.
After reading all of the complaints about him online etc, we confronted him about it. his words were that his EX gf was spreading rumors about how hes a cruel breeder etc. i thought it was complete bulls**t. I then called Animal Control for that area and asked about his kennel. THe nice gentleman i spoke to has said that this has not been the first complaint Kevin Settineri has had. He was charged for animal cruielty before. I was not suprised considering what facts ive seen and heard already.
We wanted to get our money back but he refused and said payments already gone through no refunds.
Days pass and w get our Shiba who i dearly love to death, we named him Leon. (hes a cream shiba)
He looked healthy and happy to see us. HOWEVER, a month later…
Our vet had discovered he had Giardia (which is beaver feaver, usually due to contamination of food or water, or could be passed through the mothers milk). We called Right Puppy to let them know that this has happened. The young girl who answered who i believe is Danielle (kevins daughter) did not give a crap about the problem and told us to give Leon (my shiba) a bath in dilluted bleach!!! I was so shocked that she would say that, and to make matters worse she said quote unquote
«we give our puppies baths in dilluted bleach all the time»
he also had a gross eye infection, the vet said that it was due to bacterial surroundings, couldve been from his kennel. FACT: most puppy mills keep their dogs in tight kennels, feces and other bacteria is most likely present.

it was just a nightmare with one problem after the other.
After my phone call regarding Leons‘problems, i knew Right Puppy do not care about how healthy the puppies are.
More problems came later with Leon, his vet bills alone has cost us over $ 4500. (due to problems he has had before).
i asked the vet why a puppy would have so many problems and its clear why.
RIGHT PUPPY IS A MILL. THEY OVER BREED THEIR SHIBAS AND WOLF TAMASKAN DOGS. IF YOU LOOK ON THEIR WEBSITE, THERE ARE ALWAYS PUPPIES ON SALE.
THEY BELIEVE IN QUANTITY NOT QUALITY. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT TO SUPPORT THIS HORRIBLE PUPPY MILL. It horrifies me to think how they treat them.
I just look at Leon as if i saved him from that place… To think what other owners have to do if they cannot pay for the vet bills :(
I hope they will get shut down soon. Those puppies and dogs deserve so much better.

I am going to give a completely honest review of RIght Puppy Kennel. I looked around for a Tamaskan breeder for a few weeks before deciding on RPK. I did look around for reviews on RPK but they are few are far between. At the time I couldn’t find any reviews not associated with their website at all. Since then I have found a few. Mostly I came to the decision on RPK because I am impatient and wanted to get a Tamaskan soon, and all other US breeders have a long waiting list and only have puppies like twice or three times a year. So my fiancée and I decided on the parents we thought had the best markings and went with a puppy from that litter. Two things that made me feel initially secure about purchasing from them was: 1. the link and information to the Tamaskan Club Of America (The Official Registration Body Of The Tamaskan Wolfdog) –tricky wording there aka wolfdog, which I ended up finding out that Right Puppy Kennel founded that registrar themselves. And on top of all that, there is a linked site from that site that horribly slanders all other Tamaskan Breeders. This person makes many negative and harmful claims against any other Tamaskan Breeder. Except Right Puppy. They claim to be an unbiased source of information, but a lot of it sounds like hearsay and misdirection. In my opinion, anybody that feels the need to point out the flaws of others, whether true or not, shouldn’t be saying they are unbiased. 2. The Lifetime Health Guarantee on their pups which I think is a little shady. They don’t explain it at all, not that they need to or say they are going to, and you must have your pup examined within two days or receiving it and then get RPK the examination records within four days or it’s void. I didn’t even read it until two days later. But, in all fairness, that is my fault. I guess I just hold businesses to a higher standard. They are a few more things on the website that I believe are intentionally misleading but you can see those for yourself. They may just be my opinion so I won’t post them. Although Tamaskan’s do have sensitive digestive systems, RPK really tried to pressure me into buying their special food, but I just went with Iams puppy food and her stool was fine after a few days. They attempted to make me believe that something horrible would happen to her if we didn’t give her their food. Again, slightly misleading. Ask your vet. They know best.
My first impression when I had questions for Kevin, the owner/​operator of RPK, was that he was quite unprofessional on the phone. Very short, not very friendly, but not unfriendly. He just didn’t seem too enthused about my call. He could work on his attitude a bit. But that’s just my personal preference when talking to someone on the phone. So take that for what it is. Maybe he is a wonderful man and I have him misjudged. I am only going off my personal experience. The selection process went fine, and the initial payment for the puppy/​shipping went fine as well. However, after the payment was made I was charged twice for the shipping cost. Then I called to get it straightened out and it took me some time+my bank account statements+email correspondance to get Kevin to finally refund me the extra couple hundred dollars for the shipping mistake.
He did refund me the money. But it was kind of a pain.
Ok, now as far as the puppy is concerned, when we got her she was underweight. But she is wonderful. We love her markings and she has a wonderfully sweet temperment. She is goofy and loving. She is smart and graceful. She looks as good as any stock Tamaskan photos you can find on the internet, from any breeder. We are quite pleased with her as a dog. She is only 8 months old right now, so she is still quite young. After several months we did get some paperwork from RPK for her, but it was not what I expected. And it was only after I asked them for it several times. I expected some kind of health record, maybe something on the parents health as well. It doesn’t really say anything at all about any of the dogs, just there names. I could have printed out something better on my own computer.
Overall, my experience was not that good. Although the final product is wonderful, I would not choose that experience again. And since then I have found several more posts online from different sources, including wikipedia under Tamaskan, that state some very troubling things about Right Puppy Kennel. Also they sent me an email about a review contest. Best review wins. I would not recommend them to anyone. Go with a different breeder. DO YOUR RESEARCH on that specific breeder. Go with someone who has good records on their dogs.
