Alice Sheets Marriott Center

I recently saw a modern dance performance by the U of U dance department. I’m convinced there isn’t a bad seat in the house. My tickets were purchased last-​minute and we arrived just after the start of the show. As is the custom of theater, and common courtesy, we did not attempt to enter until after the number finished. We wanted to be as inconspicuous as possible so we quietly collapsed into the first vacant seats by the right doors.
I looked around to see if any other seats might be accessible without causing too much of a disturbance to the other patrons. The curtain opened on the next number before I could finish scoping the place out.
I was surprised to find that even though I was as far to the side as one could be, I still had a great vantage point. I could see everything. There were no obstructions. And though there were people seated directly in front of me, I wasn’t bothered by their presence. The seats were high enough and were perfectly situated to get a good view between the two chairs in front of me.
We didn’t move seats and enjoyed the show immensely. The lighting, the sound engineering, and the seats were very good. My theater experience was comparable to that at Ballet West performances. I only gave four stars because I felt that I could hear every commotion in the hallway between numbers.

The Marriott Center for Dance on the University of Utah campus includes classrooms and dance studios along with a large theater for performances. I’ve attended several performances at the Marriott Center for Dance and been very pleased with the quality of the dance, the lighting, as well as the sound in the theater. Home to both modern as well as ballet performances by University of Utah students, the Marriott Center for Dance is a great place to see a performance.
