Everything I am about to tell you is the truth. The review may seem a bit dramatic, but rest assured it is nothing compared to living through a knife fight with the federal government that has a nuclear arsenal.
Let me premise this review by unequivocally stating that you will not find a legal team with more heart and raw skill than Walley and Tara. Unlike many firms that I have dealt with, Bugden & Isaacson do not back away from a fight. Before retaining Walley and Tara, we interviewed at least 6 firms that wanted to sell my family member’s soul to the federal government, before they even fully understood the dynamics of his case.
I am not a litigator. However, I am a licensed attorney with over 15 years of experience in corporate securities matters. Consequently, I have dealt with many complex transactional securities law issues and referred many clients to law firms that do litigate. So, I have had dealings with many large expensive firms. In my experience, a majority of «litigators» are in truth very expensive deal makers. Often, they do not have the fortitude to litigate. So, they cut deals. Quite frankly, it makes sense to cut deals in some cases.
The task of litigating against the full force and overwhelming power of the federal government is daunting to say the least. Walley and Tara got into the trenches and went to war for us. War is the proper description. The trial lasted over two weeks and various aspects of the case dragged on for at least 2 years after the verdict. There were literally 10’s of thousands of pages of documents. Countless sleepless nights. Multiple defendants. Government informants… tapes…hard drives of data… questions of international law… securities laws… witnesses with axes to grind… expert witnesses… people who had been duped out of $ 100’s of thousands of dollars by an offshore boiler room. The whole situation was overwhelming.
Lives had been destroyed. As far as white collar crime cases go, this case was epic. In the end, justice did prevail. The government had it wrong in this case. Walley and Tara had saved my family member’s life. He was facing as much as a 10 years in federal prison. Prison time was avoided. If not for the efforts of this dynamic duo, the story of our lives today would be a tragedy versus a phoenix from the ashes scenario.

Wally defended me in a nasty case with the government. He did an excellent job and the outcome was much better than I would have expected. He is able to think quickly on his feet and is a straight shooter. He’ll tell you how it is (no bs). I’ve dealt with many lawyers over the last few years and I can say Wally is one of the best. One of the things I appreciated most about him is his ability to speak casually with the other side — with plea deals or settlements, it is often what happens in unofficial meetings that matters most. He has a great reputation, experience and the ability to build rapport. I would use him again, no question (I’m hoping that I won’t need to though! Hopefully the government has lost interest!)

During the first half of my legal entanglement Wally was superb. He grasped the particulars of my case & saw the merits of my defense right away. Then, using my well-​crafted arguments, and his bulldog-​like fortitude, he scored a huge & unheard of victory for me at the preliminary hearing, as the major charges were thrown out– just as they should have been. But during the second half he was a different person: inattentive, unreachable, dismissive… and he neglected to do several of the things he promised he would do. Finally, he even lied, to persuade me to take a plea deal I never would have or should have otherwise taken. Was he bored? Did he think he’d done enough? Did I not pay enough?
