Camelot Inn and Hostel

DONT STAY HERE. I called this hostel before booking online and they said they had space and were aware of my reservation. Once I arrived, I realized I had not been sent any of the checkin information or door code, which basically meant i was locked outside in the cold (because no staff are at the hostel). I then called the owner who was VERY RUDE and rather than taking responsibility for their mistake said that it was not his problem and that I would have to wait OUTSIDE for up to 45 minutes while they ran my credit card number. Anybody from the 21^st century knows that it takes about 1 minute to run a credit card number.
This hostel only cares about making money and doesnt not care about the people that stay there whatsoever.
It also has a very weird and damp smell inside. Go somewhere else.

Not a pleasant stay. We had the room H1… Horrible room, very small, one wall in deep green color, one in deep blue, not clean and it was very hot inside. Not a cosy atmosphere at all. The hallways have air conditioning but not the room. I’m aware that this was not an hotel but this is an horrible hostel, not worth the price. The mattress was not comfortable with plastic all around it which made me sweating all the night.
Nobody are here for the check-​in, which is kind of scary that you will not get your key…
You should go in the motel6, 2 blocks away for the same price, at least we will get your one bathroom. I don’t care about sharing the bathroom but it has to be clean and worth the price about not having it. Never again ! The worth room ever !!! I precise that I’m not a picky person…

I enjoyed staying at this hostel. It was clean and I got a private room. Free wifi was really slow though that was my only complain, They should get high speed internet.

OK, so I had a phenomenal experience here, and reading all of the negative reviews on Unilocal saddened me.
First of all, this is a HOSTEL, not a HOTEL. If you are stupid enough to not know the difference between those two, you should probably stay in a HOTEL before you bash a HOSTEL (Camelot) for being exactly what it should be… This is for people who are good at traveling. Hotel people don’t belong. For people who love the thrill of traveling and meeting new people, Camelot is for you!
The self-​check in process was amazing. I love being able to do things on my own and putting in the confirmation number on the computer to get my room and lock box combination was a breeze.
The hostel was very quiet and VERY clean. Whoever is cleaning it is doing a phenomenal job, and I commend them very much. Even though Hostels require you to share a bathroom, it was almost as if I had my own private bathroom due to how clean it was.
Also, it was very quiet. I realize that this is dependent on who is staying there at the time and such, but it still was quiet and that was also cool. I personally would have preferred a little more mingling with people, but that’s because I actually like people, unlike those who stay at hotels and need their privacy.
There are signs EVERYWHERE, that CLEARLY mark what you should and shouldn’t do, which is nice. That way you won’t be unexpectedly be charged for anything extra… Unless you’re an illiterate American or something… I swear, people don’t read signs these days and then they get pissed something bad happens. READ.
Lastly, I met some pretty cool people here who I went out with and had a couple of epic nights with. Now, not saying that will happen to you. Fate is a fun thing. However, the environment of a Hostel makes it possible!
For the price, this hostel cannot be beaten. I will be back if I’m in Salt Lake City again.
KNOW what you are getting into before booking (The difference between a Hostel and a hotel) and DON’T listen to idiot reviews.

This is a great hostel for those considering a budget ski trip to utah. Its within a few hundred yards to a trax train stop that you can use to get to the uta ski bus so no need for a rental car if you are a solo traveler. The rooms were properly heated in the winter so i felt comfortable walking around in a tshirt. The kitchen is fully stocked and there are multiple private bathrooms. The wifi was decent in the room i stayed in.
Cons:
There is no attendant here and the main means of communication is with email and text messaging. You will receive info for the combo lock to the door and once inside you will access a computer with your emailed reservation number to access a lockbox for the room key. Best to have a smartphone.
There were no eateries nearby so i ended up taking trax to the local walmart one stop down to get food.
Previously i had stayed in the avenues hostel and the camelot hostel is a far better option

No problems checking in or accessing Wi-​Fi at all. The building was very clean and seemed quite well run. Additionally, the hostel’s proximity to TRAX, downtown, and a few good coffeeshops and bars means I’ll be staying here again if I’m back in SLC. My only complaints are that the mattresses sucked (but that kinda comes with hostel territory) and the common areas were a little cramped. Pretty decent trade offs, all in all.

The place is pretty cheap and clean the only things that I didn’t like was the check in process was a little confusing and it was hard to get a hold of staff sometimes and you had to call them on the phone but they usually got back to you after 10 or 15 minutes. It’s also located close to downtown SLC which is nice. There was wifi but it was a little spotty at times.

WEIRD WEIRD WEIRD. Hmm. This place is possibly one of the most difficult places to stay if you’re a traveler with limited resources (ie without a smartphone, email, phone on your person, don’t speak english fluently, or without a credit card). We arrived, boyfriend and I, to stay one week and luckily caught one of the receptionists there on the phone to let us in and book a room around noon. We made the reservation on the computer there but still could not get into our room which we had viewed in person (FOR AN EXTRA $ 5) to make sure it was clean and worth the dough until 3. So we left and came back. fyi $ 233.16 for 2 people one week private room. The only thing this place has going for it is that it is clean and has everything to meet your needs during a stay. At 3, I received about 7 emails describing how to check in, including several building and room codes, instructions on how to fax my own credit auth, and about twenty threats if I didn’t do something on time or within the house rules. Before check out they also send about 5 emails with about a million instructions. They have access to charge your card at any point. No one is ever on sight, no one answers the primary numbers and you have text secondary numbers. Crazy people in other rooms punching walls or staying long term because they are down on their luck. This is like a cross between homeless shelter and international hostel with confused guests because of the lack of help or service one expects when staying at a «hostel». If you can plan ahead and have the resources and someone traveling with you (to avoid the crazies) are short on money AND have a credit card it can be worth it to suck it up like we did… I guess… free cable and wifi only works in the kitchen. You really have to work hard to make the process smooth here which is why I rate one star. If I were to come back to salt lake to stay I would cough it up and stay at the Econolodge. Where are the hostels? There is the avenues hostel which I have not checked out, it looks funky on the outside. Maybe give it a go?

The owner is very upfront about being able to pay before you get in. I have no problems with this. The problem I do have is false advertising. I was told there would be AIR CONDITIONING and wifi, however, in my unit, I am unable to get a signal or even find the Wifi with my phone or laptop, nor do I get air conditioning in my room. The WIFI aspect is HUGE, because I require wifi for my job.
The privacy in the private room is great, and the place is kept pretty clean, but I can’t give this more than 2 stars unless the wifi problem is resolved. I can live without AC, but the wifi is killing me.

The staff were a bunch of assholes. SLC was a complete let down in every way. I’d say, just keep on driving.

Cheap, clean, quiet hostel in a nice area of Salt Lake City, close to downtown, transportation, and nightlife.
Free parking in private lot. Computerized check in. They email you an access code for the front door when you reserve a room. The code didn’t work when we arrived, but we texted Artur and he responded very quickly with the correct code (it changes daily)
The beds weren’t plush by any means, but they were functional and clean.
Free WIFI.
Plenty of bathrooms.
Large kitchen in good working condition with a large fridge, microwave, washer and dryer.
There was a computer room with several computers.
There were guests from Austria, Australia, Britain and the US when we were there and everyone was very polite and friendly.
Highly recommended!
