Six year customer for rentals. Always great people, equipment has been just as great. Every visit has been quick and the staff has been beyond helpful.

Came here to get my season snowboard rental. This year the snow for us has been wonderful but I went a little late because of last year. Let me tell you it is all gone. They did manage to get me the right boot size but there is not bindings that fit properly. The binding they were trying to see if I would rent it with had my toes hanging out.
The equipments here aren’t that new, but they are fairly cheap compare to other places. Service wise there was plenty of people there working but only one person actually doing everything. He was helping me and then when some skiers came in to rewax their stuff he was doing that.
All in all… service wise this place is alright, wish it was more quicker with so many people hanging around. Equipment wise it is decent for the price, but if you want newer equipments I recommend looking somewhere else.

Just got off the phone with the rudest and most unhelpful customer service representative I’ve spoken to in my life. I have been using these guys for season rentals for the past few years, and brought dozens of visitors from out of town here — but I will never be giving them our business again.

Affordable, convenient, friendly place to get advice, pick up discounted lift tickets, and get your rentals in a much more sane environment than at a resort. Their hours are convenient for early morning pickups and late evening drop offs. The staff are helpful and knowledgeable — not just about their inventory but also about local ski conditions and recommendations.
I have also picked up a few accessories here like socks, which were of great quality.
I’ve only ever rented the basic skis here so my expectations were low, but I was excited to see they rent MSR snowshoes which I definitely plan to take advantage of next time I am in town.
This is based on two rentals in Dec 2012 and Dec 2014.

We all hate the «bike snob» phenomenon that exists in so many shops when the employees talk down to you as if they derive all of their self-​esteem from their chosen retail profession. Cody and Tim at Canyon Sports are anything but this. They were friendly, approachable, accommodating and very professional. They performed a thorough, expert and timely tune-​up on my mountain bike at an extremely fair price. They added «Stan’s» liquid to my tires and installed a new chain, free of charge; and I hadn’t even purchased there. I felt like I had gotten such a good deal on the tune, that I felt I could splurge and treat myself to some new grips, which, they also installed free of charge. Thanks guys! You have a customer for life!

I’ve rented from here a couple times with no problems, then saw all the bad reviews here on Unilocal.When I showed up at the ski shop on March 26^th 2014, I expressed my concerns. The workers acknowledged the bad reviews, they remembered those people. I asked them to double check my bindings, they did.
I rented the sport package skis, ended up with standard Rossignol (blue and white). These skis worked ok, but I was at Snowbird and they got dumped on. The next day I went back and expressed my concerns and wanted to try something else, a wider ski that could handle the powder better. They put me in Rossignol Phantom 80s, and these skis were much better.
It seems to me the trend is a wider ski. The old style Rossignols (blue and white) will work on the groomed runs, but it just seems everyone has wider skis that can handle the powder and crud better. Heck, there were people with Atomic skis that were even wider than my Phantom 80s, and they were rentals too. If someone comes in and it’s a sunny day and the runs are groomed, then the old style Rossignols will be fine. But if the area is getting dumped on, the Phantom 80s or similar are better.
So for my visit, everything worked out, the ski shop heard my concerns, swapped out the skis after the 1^st day, and I had no problems with the return. I hope the trend continues because this shop has a good location downtown. The coupon I printed from the web site worked.

A day of xc skiing with friends was ruined due to the negligence of Canyon Sports. Both ski boots were defective causing us extreme frustration. First of all it took 15 mins to snap into the ski and then my friend kept crashing because the boot kept sliding off the ski. We returned to Canyon Sports only to be told «they were sorry.» We showed them the defective boots, and they said «oh wow, that isn’t good.» Our rental was comped and we got a «sorry.» Never ever renting there again.

What a disaster– so bad we returned all of the crap rental equipment the same day, the staff have NO idea what they’re doing. We set up our skis ourselves after checking the settings and finding different settings on each ski. Do not go there-​and it’s expensive.

How do you lose an hour of skiing on a powder day? Rent from here!
Imagine my anger when after more than an hour of driving to get to Powder Mountain, we get on the slopes– finally there, with our lift tickets and all, almost a foot of fresh to be frolicked through… and then my mom’s boots aren’t going into the bindings quite right. My husband tried to fix them, but quickly realized there was something wrong. We took the skis into the rental shop at the resort, where it was even worse than we had thought. The problem wasn’t that the bindings were adjusted poorly– the problem was that the binding was TOO LARGE, and would not be able to fit my mom’s boots at all. Fortunately, we were able to rent another pair of powder skis– no easy feat on a powder day, but at least one good hour was wasted. More than that, if you count the time that we spent that AM renting skis that didn’t fit.
Canyon Sports refunded our money, but that’s it. They didn’t pay for the rental that we still had to pay for at the resort. And really, how much is an hour on one-​hour-​fresher snow worth? I’d say that’s near priceless.
The only thing this place has going for it is that it’s open early. But I am not planning to be back.

This is where I have rented the last two trips to SLC skiing. Online reservation is nice, but not totally complete. Last time they didn’t have my stuff ready, this time they did. Staff is generally helpful. Quality of the equipment was average for a performance rental.

I’ve been a customer of Canyon Sports for years and love both their equipment and staff. I’ve rented from them and never had an issue, bought discount lift tickets and clothing and gear as well. One year late in the season I went and asked if they had any skis I could make some wall hooks and shot skis out of and was willing to pay for them, but they let me have a couple of old pairs. Nice folks and great shop!

Been skiing for 8 years. I have always owned my own ski’s, boots, and bindings. My little brother wanted to ski with me after a year of lessons. Picked up a pair of ski’s boots, and poles from Canyons Sports for him Horrible place to rent!!! One of the bindings popped off shortly after getting off the lift. Had to adjust both bindings and tighten to same length. Flat out, the rental shop should have done this to begin with. Bad customer service. I will never rent here again.

I came here for the discounted lift tickets to Park City, Snowbird, and Canyons. It’s awesome for that… But I can’t recommend it for equipment which, ironically, what this place is here for. Very limited selection and if you were caught with your pants down (ie., thermals) this place would be a life saver and help you with your shrinkage and shivers.

BEWARE THE DAMAGE WAIVER
My family has been going skiing in Salt Lake City the past 3 years and we used Canyon Sports without problem until this year. With the low snow fall, we knew there might by rocks and paid for the damage waiver. Granted we did not read it very closely but were not given an explanation that it does not cover replacement if the ski cannot be repaired. We just figured a damage waiver should cover any and all damage. We skied on blues and sure enough with the low snow I hit a rock, scraped the ski and caused a little crack. When we went to return, the staff said it wasn’t repairable and we owed them $ 200+. It definitely put a huge damper on the day and a sour note on a great ski day otherwise.
So if you rent from canyon sports, just be careful and knowledgeable of the waiver. As for us, this was our last year renting from here and will find a shop that has a damage waiver that actually covers damage.

Worst place in 25 years of skiing. Do not come here at all. They will rip you off without warning, I was charged 35 for a scratch on my skis. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Great discounts on lift tickets!

I do not like writing negative reviews, but I want to share my experiences at Canyon Sports this March 2011.
I bought discount lift tickets — no issues.
However, I rented skis and ran into many problems. First, I am a expert skier and decided to just bring boots and rent demo skis for a couple of days. Avoid airline baggage fees and lugging skis.
A normal expectation of a $ 40+ demo rental is:
1. maybe the ability to reserve a model
2. decently tuned skis
3. a relatively recent model
My experience was as follows:
1. No ability to reserve a any specific model. More problematic, the employees did not really seem to know what was in their demo fleet to start. This is OK — I would take a look and pick out what looked fun.
2. Tuning. None of the demo skis were tuned. In fact, most were in horrible shape. I am talking about numerous relatively deep scratched in the base (5 – 10 large scratched on the 5 demo skis I looked at.). Also, the edges on most were very dull. I literally could not find a single tuned demo ski out of 20 pairs. I asked if it was possible to put a coat of wax or run them through the grinder while present. They said it was not — they were busy.
3. Recent Models. Part of the reason the demos were in such bad shape, is that each was at least 18 months old. There was simply a lot of use on all of the skis.
Damage Insurance: I was asked in I wanted to purchase insurance. It was unclear to me how the could determine damage minus the ski edge being ripped out or the ski broken in half. They just noted lots and lots of scratched on the form. Seemed like routine note.
Day 1. Rossignol 87S. Not a bad ski. However, due to the many scratches/​lack of wax — they dragged on the soft spring snow.
Swapped out skis for Day 2.
Day 2. Volkl AC30. The bases were relatively good. However, the edges maybe had been sharpened 6 rentals ago. They performed very poorly on groomers.
Summary.
Again, a great store for discount lift tickets. However, I found the rental portion of the business completely lacking. It might be OK for beginner skiers. However, if you want to rent a decent intermediate-​to-​expert ski — expect very worn equipment with little appropriate upkeep.
If Canyon Sports could have supplied a single tuned demo ski in a 170 – 180 length, I would have been OK. However, I had 2 visits, examined 20 pairs of skis and just saw an unacceptable product.
I would really, really recommend elsewhere for a performance/​demo package. Best might be a ski shop that would sell you the ski you are demo-​ing. Why? They want you to love the ski so you will buy it — and generally keep the demo fleet in better shape.

Not the greatest ski shop, they don’t have a huge selection of everything but they do have rentals, and some basic things incase you forgot something at home or lost in luggage, but the main reason to come here is the discounted lift tickets.
You can save anywhere from $ 6 to $ 11 on each lift ticket, they sell vouchers for all the resorts, and even deeper discounts for multiple days on certain resorts. Definitely worth stopping by before hitting the slopes and paying full price. I think you can return them if you don’t use them too since they are vouchers.
Great place to stop in to save some of you hard earned money.

Good equipment at good prices. Stop by and check out the discounts on local lift tickets before you hit the slopes.

Decent rental equipment and discount lift tickets. You get 20% off or more off of your rentals if you buy the lift tickets there but you have to ask for it… i don’t know why but they don’t automatically give you the discount and one of my friends claimed that they got 50% off but i don’t know about that.
