History

Established in 1989.

In the fall of 1989, Four and Twenty Sailors was born. We carry the finest European designers from Holland, Spain, France and Italy blended with a creative North and South American flair.

Our love for classic, traditional, finer clothing, was the foundation for the lines of clothing we offer. Classic traditional clothing was the inspiration for the name of our shop — Four and Twenty Sailors (inspired from an old Mother Goose rhyme). When you see a vintage photo of a family, the children are often wearing some sort of sailor suit. While we offer so much more than sailor suits, they still remind us of the tradition and history of finer children’s clothing.

After many years in the adult clothing business and working in finer boutiques, we had our first child. Our son was born! We soon realized how different the selection, presentation, and service was when shopping for children’s clothes. I couldn’t understand why the experience was so different compared to shopping for adult clothing.

Having worked in retail for many years, my husband and I decided we wanted to provide a better service when shopping for children’s clothing. Utah has more children than most states on average, so it seemed like a great opportunity to provide the Salt Lake Valley area. With the sophistication and service that fine adult clothing shops offer, we present you Four and Twenty Sailors.
