Sadly, can’t locate him. A bus driver told me he hasn’t seen the cart this year if he’s still around, I hope he updates his location.

The bacon wrapped hot dog was the best hot dog I have ever had. It was great and I plan to have it when I visit San Antonio again.

When I saw five dollars for a hot dog I said«this has to be good» and it sure was. John, the owner of the cart was incredibly nice. Offered me a chair and we talked for about thirty minutes and told me where all the hot spots are at in San Antonio! I will be visiting again if I come back to San Antonio.

The absolute best hot dog! will be back for sure!!! The guy was nice, clean, and amazing. Would total be back again. The bacon wrapped tops it all. Haven’t been to a stand yet that offers that. Can’t wait to go back again.

I mean seriously! THE. BEST. HOTDOG. EVER. Get everything on it… just have em slather the dog in all available goodness. It’s somewhere between a hot dog and a sausage… can’t figure out exactly what it is… but that’s the magic of the hot dog. It’s the original mystery meat, back before spam and Jack in the Box tacos. It’s wrapped in bacon, did I mention? You could wrap my boot in bacon and make it delicious. They toast up the bun on the grill also. There’s an assortment of chips and drinks to accompany this masterpiece if you so choose. The loaded dog is $ 6. I’ll pay that without flinching then stand around where I procured this epicurean delight in the parking lot across from Howl at the Moon, and eat til I’m roll-me-home-in-a-wheelbarrow full. Yeah man, at 2 a.m. on this street corner in San Antonio is where hot dog wizardry happens… check it out. For real…

Best hot dog in town! The cook is hilarious and it’s a family business. His son and nephew each have a stand downtown.

Pretty good. Nothing spectacular. They have some interesting local beers but the food is in line with most sports bars.

$ 5 for a bacon-wrapped all beef dog smothered with chili, cheese, onions, with a pickle spear and jalapeños. Tasty!

Amazing hotdog! Heard about him from a lady at Howl at the Moon so I was so excited when we came outside and saw him! He was super friendly and outgoing, and made an awesome hotdog! Wrapped in bacon and topped with all the best toppings: jalapeños, onions, chili, and cheese! Definitely stop and get a dog next time you see him, you won’t be disappointed!

This guy is the OG of street food in San Antonio. He’s been around since 2009(read before food trucks were the hot new food trend) and he’s slinging hot dogs downtown and battling the big guys over at whataburger for a piece of the downtown action. His hot dogs are pure beef and pure deliciousness. No overly fancy toppings at this guys station… but he has all(and i do mean ALL) the traditional fixins. I’m talking about homemade chili, perfectly crunchy pickles, onions, jalepenos, ketchup, mustard, mayo all kinds of stuff. He even has one hot dog that he wraps in bacon :) No if you’er like me and you’ve been out at all the food trucks, and you’ve asked yourself why you’re paying $ 8 for a burger that comes out of a truck when brick and mortars aren’t charging that much, then let me tell you that you are going to feel really good about handing over only $ 4 for your fully loaded ¼ lb hot dog! He’s just so reasonably priced I was so surprised! He’s posted up everyday downtown, so before you stop at whataburger, take a walk around the block and find Alamo Hot Dog instead.

Best damn street dog I have ever had! Met some friends down here for Downtown Tuesday. I was told I HAD to try them. My 1st thought was A hotdog cart? Why do I HAVE to try it? After getting my teeth into it I understood and was thankful that I had not voiced my thought. I had the Hog Dog all the way. It is a bacon wrapped quarter pound beef dog on a grilled bun served with grilled onions, red and yellow peppers, jalapenos, a pickle slice, chili, cheese and finally ketchup, mustard and mayo. I think I covered all of it but may have missed a topping or 2. Either way it is OMG Good! You would think with that much on it it would cost a small fortune. It does not. A mere $ 4.00 for ALL of that goodness. You can find him on Twitter or just go downtown and see him at the corner of St Marys and Market and at the corner of Navaro and Commerce(2 locations to get your grub).

I’m not usually much of a hot dog eater, but these hot dogs are like crack! Alamo Hot Dog recently opened a cart across the street from the Justice Center near 300 Dolorosa and I have been there at least three times in the past two weeks. These hot dogs will change your life. The cart is located under two umbrellas behind a law office. Its somewhat hidden, so you have to look for it. I’ve had the Original Dog which came bacon-wrapped, with grilled onions, jalapenos, cheddar cheese, ketchup mustard and mayonaisse, as well as, a chili dog with cheese whiz and chili.(These were both equally addicting). The dogs are big and for $ 5, you can get a dog, chips and a drink. The owner is very pleasant and the dogs are always fresh off the grill. Those who work downtown during the week MUST check this place out.

In these tough economic times it is nice to see shining examples of the American dream alive and well to give us hope that we shall indeed overcome. Food carts in San Antonio are not as prevalent as other cities and when you find them they usually are pretty special and that is a testament to their survival. Alamo Hot Dog Co. is no exception. This gem on the corner of St. Mary’s and Market right next to the old public library offers some pretty mean dogs with a warm Texas smile from the proprietor who looks happy and eager to please. Don’t expect the old hot dogs soaking in warm water here though, these bad boys are big ¼ pounders cooked on a griddle that tightens and blisters the skins with that ever delightful snap you get up in the northeast where hot dogs are a religion. They are then served on a warm sesame seed hoagie roll to support the weight. I chose the Hog Dog which was wrapped in crispy bacon and topped with grilled onions and yellow mustard. Excellent! Crispy, salty bacon, sweet onions and that amazing snap. If you find yourself wandering the downtown streets of San Antonio on business or leisure, step up to the hot dog guy on Market St. and enjoy a delicious, quick, inexpensive lunch. «Tell ‘em large Marge sent ya!»
