Alamo Plaza Spa at the Menger Hotel

I am so happy I took a chance and made an appointment here! Even though it is difficult to find, the entrance is by the pool and it is a really nifty staircase leading under ground. Get there early! The parking lots go from 5 $ to 20 $ after 9am, but it is worth it. These ladies are just a delight and my husband and I enjoyed every moment. I feel like an ass for not remembering the two ladies names that worked on us, which I guess means the massages were good lol! The ladies that did mine was great, I am 7.5 months pregnant and she made me feel so comfortable. She even gave me tips to have the hubs work on certain spots at home to make my hips stop hurting. (they totally work!) It was the most relaxing experience and when we go back to San Antonio, we will be returning! Thank you ladies!

My husband and I loved it here. Dolores and Rachel took care of everything. The steam room was awesome! We hadn’t seen anything like that before. The environment was most soothing and the massage cured all our ills. Thanks ladies!

Got a much needed couples massage after PAX South, and it was incredible! Dolores and Olga were extremely attentive and made the whole experience wonderfully soothing. The steam bath at the beginning was infused with citrus oils and the Swedish massages were just what we wanted. Very comfortable at a good price. Will definitely be back!

Olga and Mona are amazing! My boyfriend and I got a couple’s massage and it was so relaxing. The spa itself is nice and cozy, we were greeted by the receptionist and our massage therapists. They are both attentive to each individual’s needs and made it such a lovely experience.

We got a fabulous couple massage from these two awesome therapists, Olga and Mona… The service was outstanding from Dolores the receptionist to the massage therapists. Very pleasant and massage definitely met all our expectations. We asked for muscle tension and relaxation. They start you off with sauna or steam room. Would come back for sure

I just received the best deep tissue massage I have ever experienced. Ulga did a magnificent and very professional job. I feel like a million dollars.

I just finished getting a massage at the Alamo Plaza Spa @ The Menger Hotel and it was such a fantastic treat to add to me San Antonio weekend get away! I called late but they were graciously able to fit me in for a deep tissue massage. I arrived a few minutes early and they were ready for me right away. This spa is tucked away in the basement of the hotel which I initially thought might be scary but it ended up being VERY quiet, dark and a great relaxing atmosphere. If you are expecting a fancy over rated type experience, this is not your place… it’s just a very clean basic setup but quaint and clean. I was a little early but they got me in right away! I sat in the steam room to relax a few minutes and then showered before the massage began. Mona then took me into the massage, asked me about my trouble areas and really focused on those areas! She was fantastic and I would highly recommend her! Definitely will return on my next visit to San Antonio! Give it a try and ASK FOR MONA… a real sweetheart!

My esthetician Dani was very thorough and explained everything in a pleasant soothing manner. I’m pretty sure I dozed off. She and Alamo Plaza Spa are both worth finding near the pool and downstairs. Very professional and knowledgable.

Not exactly what I had in mind.

The menger hotel is straight out of the 50’s, but in a good way. I love the mid century modern design. I love the pool being surrounded by astro turf. I like the décor. Finding the spa is a bit tricky– you need to go out to the pool area and then down a spiral staircase to the basement. That’s where they are hiding the spa.
There’s a receptionist and the smallest waiting area with 2 seats. We showed up for our appointments at about ten minutes to 12. Our actual appointments weren’t until 12:15. I like to be early to change, drink my cucumber water, listen to enya or whatever ‘spa’ music is playing and relax before I get a massage. That’s not really how it works here. According to the receptionist, they had a few people out sick as well as someone who ‘had to go back to Russia’. So we couldn’t wait for our appointments in the spa– we had to go wait by the pool. 10 – 15 minutes later someone came and got us and showed us back to meet our therapists. Once we filled out our paperwork we were shuffled into a joint changing room and given locker keys. You put on a towel and go into a steam room. It’s a very small room with two seats. The steam is very thick and has a strong lavender scent. I couldn’t see my spa buddy at all. You hang out in there for about 10 minutes an then they pull you out to shower before your massage. The rooms aren’t really rooms at all, just curtain dividers. So use your ‘spa’ voice people.
The lady who rubbed me down really got into my shoulders and neck and was able to work out some tension and knots. She used the perfect amount of pressure. Usually on the back of my arms and hands light pressure makes me ticklish and that didn’t happen.
Once your done, you’ve gotta get out. No lounging and vibing in the newly jello’d peace you’ve been rubbed into. No spa baths or extra steam. So for 90 $ I feel like it’s a bit much. They need to either expand the spa or add some other amenities that are usually standard.

My husband and I stayed at the Menger for 2 nights to celebrate his 65^th birthday. This morning he had a 1 hr deep tissue massage while I had a totally fabulous European facial. We had appointments at the same time and finished within minutes of each other… both totally relaxed and refreshed for the day. Dana & Mona are wonderful. I come from the ‘big city’ of Seattle, but this was at the top of my spa experiences.

Treated my wife and myself to her birthday massage and had an awesome experience. Was totally relaxing from the sauna to the massage. Looking forward to the next time already!!!

Loved my masseuse! She was sweet and nice And talented! They were accommodating when I had to change my appointment! Only complaint was adding on a service was an issue and getting them to call me back. The place is hard to fine get very detailed directions and write them down!

Just got done with a couples massage here. The spa itself is tiny and hole in the wall-​ish. Don’t let that turn you away. The prices are very reasonable ($ 180 for a two person one hour Swedish) and the service is great! The steam shower is very relaxing and a great start to any service.

Excellent massage! I treated myself to the Renaissance Herbal wrap and massage and was very pleased. The price of this package was reasonable and fully luxurious. What pleased me most was the knowledge of my masseuse, Martha. She had a broad range of skill and technique. She provided a high quality massage, not just your average rub down. I would love to re-​visit this spa in the future.
The spa is located on historic property and many appropriate updates have been make EXCEPT the ceiling… When wrapped in herbal linens for 45 minutes its hard not to stare at the discolored (mold/​water spots?) and graying old insulation tile ceiling.

Great massages and treatments in a definitely cozy location. Hidden entrance down stairs from the pool area of the Menger Hotel, very clean and well kept. Clean and intimate changing rooms, wet and dry saunas, and really incredible massage therapists. Got a couples’ massage (Menger Massages) from Olga and Sonia and we both loved them – they individualized the service with our preferences of scents and specific techniques for our specific aches. I agree with a prior review that they were very personable and not clock watchers.
Will definitely come back when we need a break again!

I give this spa 4 stars because our massages were fabulous. The staff was very friendly and the were not clock watchers.
This spa is located downstairs at the Menger Hotel. With that said it’s a historical old building. It’s small and cozy without the bells and whistles of most day spas I’ve gone to. The rooms are sectioned off with curtains (just FYI)./
Would I come here again? Absolutely! The service and the staff far out weigh the lack of fancy décor.
