Chris Park

This park is a beautiful little hideaway. However the Unilocal review is inaccurate. It doesn’t have a playground. And it is not ideal for children. There is a ton of bugs and no place to have a snack (which is not allowed, come to find out). Better off heading some place else for the kids to play.

I was so happy to come across this wonderful hidden treasure while walking a client’s dog. I absolutely love how well it’s maintained. Despite its rather small size, it’s a wonderful place to seek solace and take in all the beauty.

This little park is sooooo cool! Though on the small side, it makes you want to keep walking in circles around the path just so the serenity and peace that you’re filled with never stops. On my visit, I of course brought the fuzz face and no one was there (Easter Sunday) it was simply and perfectly amazing. The sights and spells of Spring were intoxicating. Lush green and no matter where you stopped to take it in you were always in perfect spots to find the right angles to take lots of pictures. There is one area as you walk in that would make a perfect spot for a wedding reception. Reading the map diagram for the grounds I noticed there was a ground water fountain. It spits water up in the air. Though it wasn’t turned on during this visit, I’ll be returning cuz I wanna see that!
If you’re longing for a peaceful time out from the city, work, worries, deadlines and its not in your budget of money or time to take a trip outta town. Make your way to Chris Park, bring a book or a camera. Leave your stress at the front gate and enjoy a stroll through the grounds. Take in the sights, smells and peace of mind it brings. Don’t rush through, this little peace of heaven is meant to slow you down, help you refocus and refresh you to take on the world again. I’ll be visiting again :)

Gorgeous park. U would recommend bringing a picnic or a coffee and really sit and relax. Each bench has a quick saying on it like «I was licked by a puppy». Really enjoyed my time here with my dog. It is an on leash place.

This park is a hidden gem! While relocating here with our puppy we googled and found this park… and got some of my favorite photos of our now grown GoldenDoodle, Millie. Wonderful place to escape the heat and sun and dog-​friendly!

This little park is a hidden gem for family pictures! It is a tiny park so if you don’t know where it is and you blink while you pass by, you might miss it. Our photographer suggested it for our session and they look great!

The only thing: it’s really small… Like i’ll be ready in 3 minutes walking around small! As far as the dog park part– it’s dog friendly on a leash. Don’t get me wrong i like it a lot. Maybe i was going to visit it every day if i was working in the building across the street for a lunch brake, but i’ve seen rooftop gardens bigger than this one!

When we were visiting San Antonio, this park was close to our hotel. When we were walking back at night, we would always see the closed gates and the lush trees looming over the fenced in area, giving the park the feeling that it was the real life Jurassic Park. When we learned that it was indeed a park (Just not the Jurassic kind) we had to check it out!
The paths are beautiful and the walkway is paved with some glittery diamond like stones. There is a lush bamboo forest on the periphery, with well manicured foliage and grass. This isn’t a dog park in the common sense in that you can let your dog off the leash and run around safely, but there are poop bag stations in the park for you to dispose of any waste.

How did I never know this enchanting place existed! I’ve just passed it by daily for years! How come no one ever told me a small one acre bamboo filled wonderland was on the intersection of S Flores and Camp?
The Linda Pace Foundation is across the street appropriately the park was developed in memoriam for Linda Pace’s son. Beautiful art work and Chris’s journal entries are etched throughout the park giving the park an even more hypnotizing and tranquil feeling.
It’s the middle of summer in South Texas and this park is green, floral, and thriving. There is plenty of shade and when we are not on water restrictions there is a beautiful water fountain/​installation when entering. Dragonflies and hummingbirds glide from tree to tree. Sweet smelling blooms are around every corner. In the rear is a welcoming hill fittingly named tumble hill that will amuse just about everyone. The whole park is so serene and beautiful. You can spend hours here even with its small vicinity.
The only off putting detail are it hours they are only open from 9 to 5 and closed on Mondays.

What a gem! Here’s why:
First, know that this is a place to have lunch or play with a pup, not for grand activities. The park itself is quite small, maybe 900−2500sq.ft. Chris Park is a nice little alcove in Southtown SA, and has a few slight drawbacks that keep it from 5-​star quality.
GREAT: lush, green, dog-​poo-​free grass; cool stone slabs for sitting and lounging; a very clean restroom; a friendly groundskeeper; beautiful flora
MEDIOCRE: size, hours
Overall, I thoroughly enjoy this spot, and wish it were open longer!

I first visited Chris Park for a Contemporary Art Month party in the spring, and was immediately mesmerized. Winding pathways, luscious green gas, blooming plants and flowers — it’s basically the secret garden of San Antonio.
It is fenced, so it does close at a certain time, but I’m pretty sure it’s free and open to the public during the day. I often daydream about packing a gourmet picnic basket and enjoying it al fresco. If only my boyfriend liked being outside…
Find it off of South Flores on Camp Street, just north of the Camp Street Lofts (where apparently one of the Dixie Chicks lives). Just a little bit of local pop culture there for ya.

Found this place when I decided to go for a walk. It’s hidden, so if you’re just driving by, you may miss it.
I walked in and the first thing I thought was «How have I lived here so long and not heard of this place?» I spend about an hour just walking around. It’s not a huge place but it’s so beautiful that I wanted to take it all in.
I’ve gone back multiple times just to walk around. It’s a breath of fresh air in a city that seems to be nothing but buildings. I’ve even had a few picnics there.
I suggest everyone go here at least once. You won’t regret it and you’ll want to come back over and over.

Chris Park is a green space that was developed by Linda Pace in memoriam of her son Chris.
This one acre park features notable art installations including benches with Chris’ journal entries etched into the rock. I would say my favorite though was the «Wednesday’s Child» installation which has the poem line by line on colorful glass saucers set in the concrete.
There is also a dog run, a playground and gorgeous foliage throughout. You can’t miss the huge bamboo that lines part of the trail!
The park also has doggie bags available, trash cans and a very clean and custom bathroom featuring stainless steel and an iron door.
The park is open to the public 8am-​5pm with after hours access for Camp Street Apt. owners and renters.
Chris Park is an ideal setting to take photos as the backdrop is just phenomenal.
The trails can be a bit slippery when wet, so be careful if you are walking after the area has been watered. The park will soon be adding a type of seal to the concrete that will leave the trail safer.
