Great sandwiches! Not just your everyday sandwich… the tastes will make your mouth happy! On the nice side of DT, so feel free to walk off lunch down the San Antonio River which is 3 blocks away.

If your north of downtown looking for a beer check out Attagirl. If you find yourself south of downtown then Filling station tap room is your best bet for dozens of beers taps on a constant rotation. I also challenge someone to find a better price on craft beers on tap. Most beers pour for $ 4.50 and less. I’m not talking your old man’s miller lite. I’m talking great big bold, high abv beers from some of America’s best breweries. Only reason they get 4 stars instead of 5 is because they are closed Sunday. What ever happened to Sunday funday? Ps. Mainly outdoor seating, if the weather is not great find somewhere else.

Quirky but great beer selection. Don’t be dissuaded by the small number of bar seats — sitting outside in the filling station area is an awesome spot to watch the neighborhood activity. Great Unilocal suggestion.

What’s not to like. The owner has preserved a piece of history by converting an old Texaco Filling Station into draft brew house. The barkeep let me taste everything I was interested in. They have 4 or 5 seats inside, a covered patio area with tables, and a couple of tables in the old horseshoe driveway. There’s not much to say except this is a fantastic neighborhood concept blending and keeping history in the local community while invigorating the economy. And a bigger plus… if you live nearby, you can walk or stagger instead of risking a DUI or causing injury to a pedestrian. Also while there is technically no good at the Filling Station, the owner owns the Station Café next door. Cons, you can’t leave an open tab at the Filling Station and use the same credit card next door for food. Pros, you can bring your beer from the Filling Station into the Station Café. Can’t wait until I’m back in San Antonio… I will be back!

A tiny little hipster place in SATX! This place is tiny, and they had a few seats inside, with a few outside as well. The bartender was super friendly and welcoming. He explained what they had — mostly local or Texas-based beer, but other basics as well. AND, they did have cider. Outside, it was a quiet area to sit and enjoy our beer and company.

If you want a good after work drink sitting out side people watching. Get here and grab a Imperial Stout. ABV %13 !! I had a glass and half of another and sat there for 2 hours before I felt safe enough to drive home. :). Great small retreat.

Plastic cups notwithstanding, the tap selection at this former gas station is amazing. The focus is American IPAs, but they have a broad array of different beers, all of which are fresh and well-poured. The bartender was friendly and helpful, offering small samples of whatever I wanted to try. Equally important was the condition of the taps themselves, which were very clean and well-maintained. For my vote, this is one of the best spots to have a laid-back beer in Southtown, so roll up and fill up, ding, ding!

An old service station converted into a bike friendly craft brewpub. No frills. Lots of outdoor seating. Great beers on tap.

Great selection of craft beers and a very casual atmosphere. They also have a tv outside that folks can watch. However seating is limited and the night we went, we had to stand around and wait for a while for seating to open up.

This place is awesome-lots of great beers at a great price and good food at the café around the corner-but what taproom is closed on a Saturday night? Weird.

This is cool little spot with great prices on beer. I went there on a recent Tuesday evening with my wife and we were lucky to snag a seat at the tiny(4 seat?) bar. While the prices were great, the selection was not as good as I had hoped. What I mean is that if you love IPAs and PAs you will be in heaven. However, I’m into Belgian Style Dubbels and Tripels and didn’t find much here that suited my taste(although I did enjoy the Sisyphus!). The bartender was polite and seemed knowledgeable but wasn’t particularly friendly. Here’s a great question: what the heck is up with the wacky hours? Open only 3:00pm – 11:00pm Monday thru Friday. Really? What bar closes at 11:00pm and isn’t open on the weekends? All in all, I liked this place and will return if I’m downtown but not finding much here that I can’t find closer to home(albeit at a higher price). Worth a try if for no other reason than the prices!

My husband and I have been wanting to try this place for awhile now but they are only open Monday — Friday. We finally made it there on our Friday night date night after hearing they had tapped a keg of Real Ale Sisyphus that had been sitting over a year. Um, Yes please!!! We were delighted to find it was true and received our pour. The place is very tiny but there is outdoor seating. It was pretty packed when we got there and most outdoor seating was taken. We stood off to the side and within a minute two guys waived us over and said we could sit with them — cool people, yes! We enjoyed our beers and made some new friends. We heard the restaurant side is outstanding and makes some pretty good grub. You can take the food over to the bar side and we saw some sandwiches/pizza that did look appetizing. However, it was all about our Sisyphus on this night. Thank you Filling Station for surprising us with one of our favorite beers out of no where! That is some good beer management there! We would be back more if they were open on weekends but we will get what we can take. We definitely return.

Love this little place. Tucked away in the middle of Southtown. Pretty good beer selection. It’s cold and reasonably priced. What else can a beer drinker ask for? I make my way here a couple times a week. The staff is super friendly and there’s a little table inside for those hot summer days. If needed. But very rarely someone is inside. There’s lots to see up and down St Marys. It’s also dog friendly like most places here in Southtown..

Pretty solid spot, the taproom itself is quite small, you might squeeze 7 – 8 folks in there. They do have a good selection of beers, lot of Texas brews, but a good selection of national beers and all were reasonably priced. They do have plenty of outside seating, tables and chairs in front and than a patio with tables too. They have a few TV sets, you can even watch while sitting outside, we were watching the World Cup. It’s right next to The Café Filling Station and you can take your beers over with you. Neat little place.

A laid-back, beer loving and serving joint– plenty on tap. The gas station-turned tap room has seating outside and is a true ode to old San Antonio. Good priced pints, and a decent pour to boot. If you love hoppy beer, GOHERE.

The filling station is easily a new hangout for me — here’s why: 1. The CAFE is so good! Not only can one find a slice of pizza(a miracle in SATX), but they have so many good sandwiches. I had the Club(Turkey, Ham, Mozzarella, and Cheddar w/LTM on a roll). It was so good. I’ve heard the pulled pork and the cajun chicken are good. I met the sauce-man here, and he said the spice is mild and delicious. 2. BEER: I really don’t like IPA’s, and this place is an IPA palace. So if you like those, go to town. There were a few blonds, a hefeweisen, a stout… There are about 20 beers on tap served between $ 4 and $ 7 per cup(beer is served in plastic cups. 3. Location and Space are essential. The parking situation is okay, as there is an abandoned looking parking lot caddy-corner to the bar. The café has many(5 – 15) tables for seating, and the taproom itself has picnic tables, bar stools, and small café tables. The Filling Station is a great spot. I highly recommend it as a dinner spot.

The Filling Station Tap Room is like some brew gateway before you hit the main hubs like Blue Star or The Friendly Spot. Though small, it has lots of charm. Inside it fits the brew keep and no more than 6 people at any given time. There is a chalkboard that has the brews on tap, mostly and mainly IPA’s. Along the walls are the remnants of tap handles of long gone kegs for example Sierra Nevada, Guadalupe Brewing Co., Firestone etc.
The brew keep serves you your selection. Music from a college station radio cast is piping on the stereo. It’s small and on a winter night after work, extremely cozy. But above all and I would be re missed if I did not overstate this, the brews are beyond El Cheapo! Some or most of these brews go for 7 bucks just down the road. Here the beers typically range from 2 bucks to 6. That is so cool, especially in the bourgie King William District where you are charged just for looking at anything.
I do like this place but I do have a few issues with it. 1.) I don’t get the whole plastic cup thing. I know you are getting a brew at a substantial discount but some of these brews are noble and sit and drink better in glass. Bud is meant for a plastic cup but not a Brooklyn Chocolate Stout! It deserves a better place than in some arbitrary Dixie cup to showcase it’s masterpiece of flavor! 2). I noticed on their Facebook that they seldom update their brew selections. They should do this weekly. The Growler and The Friendly Spot do this regularly. Just one quick pic of their brew selections on the chalkboard, put it on their page and then vamonos. I know they have a twitter account now, which is helpful. They typically get a crowd, from the looks of it bike riders that probably goes there on a daily basis. And buys on a whim. But what about your untypical patron? You have a great selection of brews why not showcase them? 3.) The third issue, and I believe the most important is what really sets the brewpubs from places that just tap brew for you. The server served us our beer and did not say anything instead choosing to play with his phone. Places like The Busted Sandal and The Ten Eleven are hosts by proxy, and will talk your ear out about their brews or in most cases beer in general. I like that and as a rule of thumb most brew lovers appreciate that touch. A simple, «how’s it going», «if you need anything let me know» or «what brings you here today» goes a long way. We don’t have to be best friends. Just fake it. But acknowledge we are there and be on with your business.
Given these things I like this place. The brews are cheap. I like the intimate vibe, cozy space. And I definitely will be coming back. If you want an alternative to The Friendly Spot, whose brews can be pricey or just want to go to a place to chill check this place out. On cold winter nights they have wood burning outside at no extra charge…

I love IPA’s and that is what they serve. If they only served it in a real glass, they’d have my 5 ½ stars. Oh well, they’ll just have to get 5. I like how they note the alcohol content and IBU of each beer.
