Absolutely loved this place. Came here with my friends to tried the dim sum and were really happy with the options. The egg custard bao was hands down one of the best. The service here is incredible! Our server was really attentive and sweet and super fun. Overall we had a really great experience and will be definitely going again soon.

It’s ok, not awesome. It did«hit the spot». My hubby and I ordered take out and only waited 15 – 20 mins for the food to be ready. I feel like their Chicken fried rice was missing something just can’t pinpoint exactly what. Their Lemon Chicken was delicious and still crispy by the time we got home. Next time I come I think I will dine in & see if my experience is different.

Tried this place out, even though the overall rating wasn’t great on Unilocal, because my fiancé likes it. It was busy on a Sunday evening, but we were seating promptly and the waiter was on his game. The restaurant was clean and so was the parking lot. As a matter of fact, they had a busboy walking around the lot picking up trash, down to individual cigarette butts. That was impressive. There’s a full bar and plenty of booths for those who prefer them. The food was good, but not great. I’d still go back though because I feel like the price and product provide value and the overall experience is great.

My mother in law chose this place when hubby and I took her out for lunch for her birthday yesterday. I’d never been here, but she said it was really good. We were seated promptly, even though the place was packed. Our server was friendly, and delivered our drinks right away. There are daily lunch specials which include entrée, egg drop soup, egg roll and drink for like $ 6.79, so that’s a plus. I wasn’t in the mood for Monday’s special, which was Moo Goo Gai Pan, so I chose the Kung Pao Chicken. Hubby ordered Lemon Chicken. Because the Kung Pao was on the«a la carte» section of the menu, it didn’t come with soup or eggroll, which I thought was odd. I’ve never been to a Chinese restaurant where Kung Pao was a standalone dish. I asked if I could get a soup with the meal, and the server said I could have egg drop for free, but if I wanted won ton soup, it was $.95 extra… whaaat? And the egg roll was extra. And the Kung Pao came with steamed rice; if I wanted fried rice, it would be… you guessed it… extra. Anyway, I grudgingly agreed to pay all the extras to get what I wanted. To be honest, the best part of my meal was the won ton soup, and it wasn’t all that. The chicken in my Kung Pao was large and hard to cut, and while there was spice to it, the food had no flavor, if that makes sense. Egg roll was bland, bland, bland. Hubby evidently liked the Lemon Chicken, because he polished it off. His mom appeared to enjoy her Moo Goo Gai Pan. I’m not a food snob or a picky eater, but I just thought the food was meh. And considering I was nickel and dimed to death while ordering it, I was disappointed in having to pay extra for such an underwhelming meal. May or may not go back, there are better choices out there.

I have order take out only a few times. I love their spring rolls and shrimp sui mai(dim sum). Noodles(dry but re-moisten when allowed to sit under their ingredients) were reminding me of a pf changs. The fried rice was rather dry and nondescript. I suspect of I tried more things I would like them all. You get a large portion to feed a few people.

Love love this restaurant I like their customer service and I enjoy their food. My favorite plate is the combination lo mein with egg rolls and cheese puffs. The only thing I wish they had more children menu selection options. The restaurant and the restrooms look clean. Make time to try this place you won’t be disappointed. :D

Sadly I must report unless you like over salted over cooked chicken with very few vegetables and very sassy comments when you mention the above problems shy away from this salt lick. Being from San Francisco and accustom to good Asian food take my advice and avoid this version of Golden Asian Corral and drive to the Wurzback location and you will be rewarded with food worthy of Asian royalty.

Not a great place to eat for dinner. The only thing decent about this place is the Egg Drop soup and the lunch specials; otherwise, it’s not a great authentic Chinese restaurant.

Love coming here bc it’s close to home and their food is always great! Always hot! Always pretty fast being served. We almost always get the Orange chicken, General chicken, chicken fried rice, combination fried rice, any egg rolls, egg drop soup with fried crunchy noodles, and the cream cheese wontons! They’re amazing!

I went here for dinner last night with my boyfriend and we were both pleasantly surprised to see that their happy hour is also on the weekends(4pm-7pm). Happy hour is only available in the bar but we had no trouble finding a table. The drink specials during happy hour are $ 1.99(margaritas on the rocks and domestic beers) and they have a wide variety of appetizers for only $ 2.50. We ordered three appetizers: pork sui mai, calamari and the spiced ribs. All of the appetizers were very good in my opinion. I agree with what another reviewer wrote, the calamari isn’t «spiced» as advertised in the menu, it’s just breaded and fried but I thought it tasted good with the sweet chili sauce. The menu also says that the spiced ribs are«pan seared» but they are definitely deep fried — but again, still good! My boyfriend also ordered the combo pad thai and enjoyed it. I got really full on just the appetizers alone and couldn’t believe that they were only $ 2.50 each! I’ll definitely be back for happy hour. The service could have been better, but then again we were in the bar area and they only had one server for all of the high top tables. My boyfriend had asked for no shrimp on the pad thai and I re-iterated it to the waiter when he looked confused but then he said«Okay», however the pad thai we received had shrimp. My boyfriend ate it anyway but would have preferred it without. The waiter came by with my «pork sui mai» and I had to point out to him that it was shrimp har gau that he was trying to serve me. Despite the fact that the service needed some work, we enjoyed the food and would definitely come back.

Solid restaurant. Really good dim sum. They’ve implemented healthier steamed brown rice as an option. This location in terms of aesthetics is light years above the old location across the road. Food hasn’t changed in the 20 years I’ve been going. It’s perfect for lunch. They get you in and out yet continue to provide efficient, friendly customer service. Give it a go.

Golden Wok is the best Chinese food in Sam Antonio! The shrimp sui mai is my favorite dim sum and an excellent appetizer as well as the cool lettuce wraps. Dim sum noodles are also great. The prices are excellent. They have daily lunch specials that include soup egg roll & tea. My favorite is Fridays golden fried shrimp $ 6.59. The shrimp always taste fresh and is butterfly clean. I like the pan fried noodles for dinner. I have tried many Chinese restaurants in San Antonio this is by far my favorite.

I have never seen Chinese food like this. I ordered the General Tso’s chicken and it came out as fried chicken with some sauce on it. Nothing like what I expected. The rice was also not like typical fried rice. Overall just not what I expected. The food was ok but not something I will come back for. The service was really good considering the size of our party.

We came for lunch at about 2:00 on a Saturday. I ordered the lemon chicken lunch special, which came with delicious pork fried rice, a huge hot & crispy eggroll, egg drop soup and iced tea. All was delicious! Lots of good food for a good price.

Andrew E. has it correct. This is the poor man’s Chinese. It’s just meh. It didn’t taste terrible but it wasn’t right at all! Very bland(except for the sauces to dip things in), General Tso’s was not at all spicy, the texture of whatever they fry things in is off and definitely the most unexpected of any«Chinese» I have ever had. I have been to so very many. I told my boyfriend this was truly the most Americanized American Chinese ever, if you get that. Pork dumplings had no flavor without the sauce. Calamari, the same way. They were not packed, but busy, when I was in there, people like it! I was put off by the décor in there it fit the food — it just seemed confused. Felt like a diner, used colorful latin plateware, when you walk in there is a giant portrait of a woman that has a likeness to Marie Antoinette or something. Definitely put together oddly. I am not a big rice eater any more and asked if I could pay(or not) to have vegetables of some kind instead of rice. Server said, «Uhhh…the General Tso’s comes with the brown or white rice.» I know it does, but in a house full of vegetables, you can’t have something else? Then I said, «How about on the side and I pay extra?»(So, I’m getting rice and veg at this point I realize) Looking fairly confused, but cordial, he said, «Yeah! Something like broccoli?» I asked for broc and mushroom. THEN the best part, he comes back and tells me, «Uhhhhh, they can’t really put it on the side, but can they put it IN the Tso’s for you?»…*crickets* Still unclear why it couldn’t be on the side! Weird. Just a weirdly off place for me. I likely won’t go back.

The Sweet Sour Pork was tough and very chewy. I remember being able to cut through it with a fork. This is not the Golden Wok I remember eating at. This new location is modern but does not compare to the ambience of its former location. When I spoke with the manager he said he’d speak with the chef. He did offer to bring me something else but said the pork was all the same. Sad! Really disappointed. I will not be back.

I used to love this place but when they moved to new location, quality just went down. They probably just don’t care anymore because restaurants in the area are always packed. Food quality is inconsistent and the last I visited, my iced tea had bug eggs. As if from a cock roach. So disgusting. They had served us our soup but I just could not eat at that filthy place. The waiters don’t respect their boss and are always fighting. Servers are inattentive and service is very slow. I have not gone back since then.

Golden Wok is my go-to place when I want some Chinese food that tastes better than Panda Express, but I don’t want super authentic stuff — in a sense, the cheap man’s Pei Wei/PF Changs. Now I must admit, I only really eat their lemon chicken here. It’s delicious plain and simple. The fact that you get an eggroll, egg drop soup, and iced tea with the fried rice is just extra bonus. There are a few reasons why I like this location more than the Wurzbach/Med Ctr location: 1) Plenty of parking — if you’ve been to the Med Center one then you know how much of pain it is to find parking in that tiny lot during peak times. 2) Cheaper prices — expect to save a dollar on everything for the same if not larger portion sizes offered at this location. 3) Newer facility — the Med Ctr is fine, but this one just opened a couple of years ago so everything has that new restaurant feel even if the neighborhood doesn’t necessarily match it. So the food is good, the service is hit or miss. Today it was especially bad — I got some authentic Houston Chinatown rude, curt service, but hey can I really complain? Yes I can and I just did. But the food spoke for itself. I was stuffed and satisfied. I can tolerate the bad service if it means that the food remains at consistent levels despite my coming to Golden Wok once or twice a year when I’m in town.

Yeah, I like it. Some people will consider the food bland but I really think they just don’t over-season everything like a lot of Texas places do. You can actually taste the different vegetables and meat. I have only gotten take-out from this location but I’ve never been dissatisfied with what I’ve ordered. If you think this is not ‘real’ Chinese food, you’re right. None of our Chinese food is real Chinese food. If it was, we’d be eating tiny fried whole fish and fish balls. I’ve done 5 deployments over there and I’ll take our version of Chinese food any day.
