Hyatt Place San Antonio/Riverwalk

Good hotel, fairly close to the River Walk. Clean room, professional staff. One of the best hotel breakfast buffet I’ve seen (included) and free parking. Not many negatives, but while the room layout is decent (a sectional couch which is cool), the bathroom is extremely cramped (I’d wonder how a large person is supposed to get in and close the door behind them), the cable TV is awful. No kids channels (Disney jr, Nick jr, etc) No Fox Sports Southwest, and terrible remote control. Also only 1 tv in the room. The third negative is there’s no microwave in the room.
But overall the value was good, the free parking makes a difference vs other area hotels, and its a nice place to stay especially with a party of 4 or less.
I would definitely stay again, the room can sleep 6 (2 adults, 4 kids) but is somewhat cramped.

My grand daughter gets really sick from mold. The whole 3 days she was not feeling well. The last morning I noticed the mold in the bathroom on the ceiling. The other grand daughter and I was in the same bed together, both had bumps and itching on our face, back and legs. I did not see Bed Bugs, but 90% sure that’s what it was. I could not believe my wall outlets did not have covers on them. The employees was so nice, but at this price and conditions to much.

The Hyatt Place is a great option to the more expensive hotels in the area. I had a balcony room view of the riverwalk that was gorgeous! The room was comfortable and clean, the service was excellent, and the hotel manager was very good and customer service oriented in working with me on a bill adjustment. Free breakfast, free parking — these make this hotel a real value. I will stay here again the next time I am in San Antonio for either business or vacation!

Stayed at the Hyatt Place 3 nights and was really pleased. The staff was great. The housekeeper that came every day did a excellent job keeping the room clean and stocked. The front desk gave maps and suggestions and very nice. The breakfast attendant was friendly and took your dirty dishes when you was finished. The breakfast was very good it consisted of oatmeal, breakfast sandwiches, fresh fruit, yogurt, cottage cheese, cake donuts, bagels and toast and a few other things. The hotel room is in need of some renovations. The bed was a little broke down and the pillows was not that comfortable. I really did not like that there is no plug ins by your bed for your phone. The toilet and shower area is small but I am a big lady and had no problem. The shower had good water pressure and good lighting. Really nice area close to everything. The walk to the main part of the riverwalk is a ways so be prepared. Really pretty area in back of hotel. I would stay here again. Paid right at $ 400 including tax for two beds parking lot view 3 nights.

Do not allow concealed carry not good. I won’t be staying here again.

Clean room, decent bed, decent shower. That’s pretty much all I ask of a hotel /​motel. The price is reasonable, the parking free, but in spite of «riverwalk» in the name it’s not all that near the part of the walk where all the restaurants and shopping are. Not too far a walk, though. If you’re in reasonably good shape, you can walk to many of the city’s attractions.
The free breakfast, as at most hotels and motels, is worth just about what you pay for it, though. And the free wifi is pretty darn slow, and totally unsecured.

Generally love Hyatts, but this one left me a bit worried.
The Good:

The Not So Good:
— forced to change room in the middle of the night after discovering a bed and bathroom full of carpenter ants coming out of a fixture in the wall! (horror movie)
— left the trip with three huge welts; hoping I didn’t bring any of the bed bugs home with me.

Pros —
1.own parking lot/​no valet needed. Each guest has one parking space. They give a parking tag that you have to put in your car after 10pm.
2.Breakfast was sufficient and complimentary, so do not expect a five-​star rating breakfast from a restaurant but it has all the usual breakfast related items (eggs, carbs, oatmeal, cereal, milk, oj, apple juice, tea, coffee). Combine a few things and you can get pretty full.
3.Can get to River Walk from back of hotel. It looks like a nice walk. However, it is about 7 – 10 minutes from heart of River Walk so be prepare to walk for a bit. It is not in a busy section of River Walk.
4. I like the mini bar/​fridge area as usual at all hyatt place hotels.
5. There is a request for guest to be quiet after 8pm which is nice.
6. Two Words — Free Wifi.
Cons–
1. I got an adjoining room which I did not expect. Called front desk, and they said it was fully booked except for first floor rooms. I did not switch but not too happy that I was not informed.
2.The bath room was super small. Literally, the door scrapes against the toilet each time I close the door. I had to step into the shower to open the door. Be prepare for that. In addition, it is not a regular bathtub shower but one that is glass shower with a sliding door. After showering, the water tends to flow out so watch out about that.
3. I had asked for River Walk view. I did not get the request, which is ok because I do not mind being able to see my car in the parking lot.
4. Elevators seem to be older and makes noises.
5. I did not get any complimentary newspaper.
6. The air conditioner was very loud so I had trouble sleeping. There was also some railroad sounds in the night.
7. I find the rate pricey for stay considering all the cons.
Other than above pros and cons, overall I was satisfied and would go back. It’s not the best, but certainly not horrible.

I started a road trip w the family, first Dallas now San Antonio. The Hyatt place on south s. Mary’s is a great place to stay. Not too close not to far from attractions. Great free breakfast w sandwiches etc. The rooms are fancy. The swimming pool is a good size. W a 5′ end. Great place. Next stop Padre. C ya San Antonio.

Absolutely LOVE this place! My husband and I have bringing our son here every summer since he was 9 months old. He’s 5 now and he insists we stay here! The pool is nice, clean, and they always have towels out by pool. The pool lounge chairs and tables are also in great condition. Rooms are spacious, clean, and we love that they have a fridge for drinks and snacks. The breakfast is AMAZING and who doesn’t like a free delicious breakfast! Huge variety from cereals, bagels, donuts, oatmeal, French toast, pancakes, breakfast sandwiches etc!
The staff is very accommodating! Anything you need they make it happen and FAST! Your always greeted in the lobby with a big smile and they are all very knowledgeable about riverwalk/​downtown area. Super close walk to riverwalk If you walk down St Mary’s St and tons of restaurants within walking distance! I honestly have stayed here 5 times and have never had a bad experience! Safe location, free parking with security, FREE WIFI, free breakfast, and ²⁴⁄₇ menu available should you get hungry! It’s a no brainer! The only drawback is bathrooms are tiny BUT the sink is outside of the bathroom and I love that it’s a huge counter so it’s not like you can’t function. It actually works for us because I can put my make up on and do my hair while kiddo or hubby is showering and we aren’t in each other’s way! They also have a gym with great equipment, and they even have complimentary ear phones just in case you forgot yours! :)

Well this hotel seemed pretty amazing (one of the very few in the area with free parking). After researching I found they have a policy against concealed carry… in Texas… Come on Hyatt I will not be visiting any of your establishments until this absurd regulation is changed.

Wonderful service, great rooms, tons of space, free parking, and AMAZING location!
Upon arrival we were greeted by helpful friendly staff, offered a map of the area and asked if we would like restaurant recommendations. We declined the recommendations as we were headed to the park to run off some energy. (BTW, Hemisfair Park was within reasonable walking distance, and San Antonio is fairly pedestrian friendly)
After our hike to and from the park, and chasing the munchkins around the park, we were tired and hungry. The food options in San Antonio are frankly overwhelming, especially for exhausted parents with starving kids, so I headed back down to the front desk to see if that offer of restaurant recommendations was still good. The wonderful folks at the front were more than happy to recommend a few places for different types of cuisine within walking distance. (I did NOT want to get back in that car!) The short version is, they have great taste! The long version is my review on Rosario’s Mexican Café Y Cantina.
As to the accommodations, the rooms are very nice, great beds, and the back door of the hotel opens onto a lovely quiet stretch of the riverwalk. The price was very nice compared to all the other places on the river, and the location felt safer than any of the busier stretches near the bars.

Pretty disappointed with this location. Stayed here for a full week and while I love the Hyatt properties, I think this one has some real problems that would keep me from returning.
It is the «San Antonio Airport» location, but there is no shuttle to or from the airport. Which I find extremely unusual for a location this close to the airport and for a Hyatt property in general almost all I can think of have had a shuttle that are not even at airports.
The majority of the staff was very friendly and the rooms are pretty similar across the board, but in one of our two rooms the shower and bathroom had some serious issues with the faucet and a lingering smell that I brought up the first day we were there and nothing happened. I also think the hotel itself was messy all week. The bathrooms down stairs have a beeping alarm I heard on Sunday and it has not been changed. The elevators take a while to open and were rather dirty.
The food cooler in the lobby was broken all week and the wifi was extremely spotty in the lobby and our room. If there is one thing that I cannot have problems with when traveling for work it is the Internet and I had to resort to going to a coffee shop because even after resetting the Internet it was crawling slow.
Pertaining to all of the Hyatt’s the breakfast is not bad for a quick grab and go. While it is no gourmet experience it is a massive step up from a Days Inn or holiday Inn, but the coffee is a total fail. I don’t get why they have never fixed this problem, but the coffee is just bad. I don’t know if it is the process or the coffee they use, but everybody I travel with says that same thing. Good breakfast, but the coffee sucks…
I like the Hyatt properties, but this location experience has me more than likely not retiring back to it.

Our family of 6 stayed for 2 nights. It was clean! The breakfast was great! The room spacious, but the bathroom was really small. But overall great place to stay near the river walk but not super crowed. Get a room with a view facing the river.

The customer service is amazing!!! Ronnie hands down provides the BEST customer service I have ever experienced. Helpful and sweet. The free breakfast is delicious. Mcgridle type sandwiches, eggs, sausage, fresh fruit, pancakes, donuts… Never seen a free breakfast this good. But an outdoor a pool.

If you value Honesty, Integrity, Customer Service or follow-​up DO NOT stay at this hotel! I stayed here for 3 nights. Don’t stay here. There are better out there for sure.
LIES. LIES nothing but LIES.
I was blatantly lied to at this establishment. On the evening prior to departure we inquired as to whether we could extend our stay for an additional evening at the same rate. We were told by Ronnie who was working the front desk that it was possible and not a problem. In fact, he issued us keys with an additional day extended. Overnight that evening I received a final invoice under the door which I found odd as we had cleared this the previous evening. Of course, immediately that morning we went down, explained the situation and the girl behind the desk told us that she would «have to work on it». We proceeded to have breakfast and there was much back and forth with the General Manager and this young lady. Before we left the property for the morning it appeared that they were stumped and told me that they needed to call Ronnie to settle it and see what he did. We left for activities and got a call at 1:47PM from the hotel telling me that Ronnie had no recollection of the conversation, doing anything of the sort for us and that if we wanted to stay the additional night we would have to pay the full rate. Otherwise we were to return to the hotel and vacate the room by 3PM! Note the time of the actual phone call from my phone’s call log. We were out sightseeing and had to cut it short after paying for admission. I was not pleased to say the least. I wish I had recorded this conversation which to say the least if this ever happens again in any establishment will be my recourse and lesson learned. Had Ronnie told me it was not possible, we would probably have had a much better experience at this Hyatt Place. There is no value of honesty or integrity here. We would have checked out as planned after the 3 nights knowing our plans instead of haphazardly throwing our things together to get the hell out of there angry and disturbed that the General Manager not once spoke to us directly instead only through an intermediary. We are professional people, we expect to believe what someone says is done. If you can’t do it, say you can’t and if you do, back it up. It would have been a courtesy to have discounted something and apologized. There was none. All they kept and saying was «They didn’t know how we got this rate» (through a price match on the corporate website) and «They didn’t know what the conversation was between Ronnie and us», accusing us (the customers) of being dishonest and lying. Is this any way to run a business? Of course, as we were leaving in a huff the General Manager comes out and says «Have a good day».
Note that the young women working the front of the house area are not seasoned professionals and the General Manager refuses to address any issues in person directly or contact by phone.
OH, about the room, we had a room with a sofa and the cushions were dirty/​stained and so far worn it was very uncomfortable. The sink was on the outside of the bathroom, in front of the bed with the mirror directly facing you and the toilet/​shower combo was closet small, beyond belief. And we are not large people. The clothes closet was also minuscule and strangely situated. Wi-​fi was slow and very limited number of stations on the TV.
Breakfast selection was fair at best, breakfast type sandwiches with rubbery eggs that somehow did not come across as natural consistency. Juice was watered down.
Location is at the far reaches of any activities of the Riverwalk, be prepared to walk quite a distance.
PLUS I only received a generic, canned, corporate response after submitting the after stay survey thanking me for the feedback, blah blah

If you want the Riverwalk view in San Antonio but want the quiet side of it then this is the place to be! You also get free hot continental breakfast. We had sausage, eggs, pancakes, fresh fruits, yogurt, cottage cheese, assortment of bread and cereals. Parking is free so that’s a plus. The rooms are nice and clean but the bathroom is super small.

My husband and I stayed here back in May one weekend. We wanted to stay close to the Riverwalk BUT I don’t like paying $ 20+ for parking per night at the majority of the hotels actually near the main part of the Riverwalk. Parking was free and easy.
It’s an easy walk from the location to the Riverwalk attractions and I mean even at 3 am when you are walking back, no problems ;)
Like others have said the bathroom is ridiculously small which why it’s not five stars. I wasn’t staying there for the bathroom so I will say the living/​sleeping area of the room is quite large– especially for the price.
Breakfast in the mornings was crazy, like others have stated, I think the layout is bad because you have to walk through a little room to get your items and there are kids running around. We had to sit in a conference room one morning because of the groups of people.
Customer service was great though, we had an issue of food being charged to our room that wasn’t ours and upon checkout, the woman at the front quickly removed it from our bill. We will definitely stay again when we want to get away for the weekend.

This is a nice place. They have free parking for guests and it’s in walking distance of everything. I walked along the Riverwalk to the Rivercenter mall, Alamo and wherever I wanted to go. Driving seems like such a hassle, especially with all the construction going on at the moment.
The room was nice, had a modern look and feel to it. Our room had a view of the riverwalk which was nice.
The breakfast selection is decent. One of the better breakfasts I’ve had at a hotel, and the staff was always nice and helpful.

Needing a place to crash while in San Antonio and not having any guidance as to what is what down there, I went with the Hyatt Place along the Riverwalk. Good call Franco…
The hotel is indeed on the Riverwalk however be aware that it is on the fringe of the Riverwalk and you will have to walk about 5 – 10 minutes to get into the heart of the Riverwalk area. That being said, the walk is easy and you can do it along the river proper or head up to street level. I did both and it was fine either way. The hotel is also very convenient to the highways so coming and going is a snap.
The hotel: The front desk area also doubles as the café’ area and I walked by it twice. Although I’ve stayed at Hyatt hotels before, I haven’t tried the Hyatt Place group. It is a bit more casual. The check in went smoothly and I was on my way up to the room in minutes.
The room was exceptionally large and well done. Better than some NYC apartments I’d venture in terms of sheer size. The layout was great with a long couch, a desk area, a semi-​separate bedroom and good sized bathroom area — the sink and such are located outside the toilet and shower area. One closet and the place was comfy enough to stay for an extended period.
Being that it was Texas in the summer, the AC unit had to perform and let me tell you, my nipples could have cut glass… perfect! There was a nice large screen TV that was mounted in such a way that you could swivel it to the living room area or the bedroom (see photo).
There is free wi-​fi which is a must for me, a complimentary coffee thing in the office space area and plenty of clean towels in the bathroom. Pool, exercise room and a complimentary breakfast area in the lobby that had some of the best gratis breakfast I’ve had in a long time. Coffee was even good! Wow.
Free Wall Street Journal (hotel versions) on my doorstep in the morning and super friendly people working there. Awesome
All in all a very good experience and one I hope to repeat soon!
