I wish I would have known about this festival because I could have planned to stay longer. Somehow I always feel rushed to do all this stuff when in San Antonio. Anyway, we caught the last evening of the festival, and there was this belly dancer that looked like she knew what she was doing. You know, like, not a chubby white lady shaking her hips slowly at some hippie coffee place. This belly dancer was legit. They had several food stations representing the different countries lined around the plaza. Some of them were still open, while others had pretty much sold out. We sampled a falafel, and some paella. I had fun in the brief time I was there.

I was so excited about this event. It’s one of the main reasons we chose to spend the holiday weekend in San Antonio. What a HUGE disappointment!!! I mean, I’m almost embarrassed. Seriously, I cannot believe how lame everything about the Mediterranean Festival of San Antonio was — and this coming from a gal who can pretty much make anything a good time. This was the 6th or 7th annual… what?! Huh?! How?! So sad that we even took time out of our trip to San Antone to check out this«festival.» Had spoken to a couple of locals about a month or so again and ask about the MedFest… they said it was great. After speaking to 4 of the maybe 2 dozen people who were actually at the Festival it was suggested that the previous people may have mistaken the MedFest for the upcoming Texas Folklife Festival(which is supposedly a wonderful event; now on my to-do list) that is also held in the beautiful La Villita Historic Arts Village(if you’ve never been to the Village must visit). We went early Saturday evening. The 3 day Fest ran until 11pm each night and was supposed to have a different country theme«party» for each(Spain, Greece, Italy). First, again, the place was pretty dead. Second, there was live Tejano music(which I like), but Saturday was supposed to be «Greek night.» There was nothing Greek about it!!! No music, no décor, no entertainers, no customs, no broken plates; the ONLY thing«Greek» was a food booth that we sampled a Gyro from… disgusting and not like any Gyro I’ve ever had before. Tasted and looked more like a Gordita from Taco Bell with dry little chunks of beef in it — for 7 dollars! Oh, and we had a dried out Dolma for a dollar from the Turkey booth. Third, speaking of food — most of the booths were closed and empty. There were only about 4 to choose from including the crummy Gyro place. WTFood? Is it usually held on Memorial day weekend? Maybe that contributed to… all things not as anticipated. Can’t blame it on the weather — it was gorgeous. WTFest? The only good thing about the MedFest is that we only wasted $ 5 each for entry at the gate. If it would have been any more, I would have thrown a fit. Yup, it truly was that sad. NOTRECCOMENDED
