Tldr: very good and satisfying. Will be going back this week and regularly from now on until my experience changes. I went to lunch with a work group of 12 for the first time today. Service was adequate, though some may find the lack of server finesse less than desirable. Everyone was able to choose their desired dish with the spice level of their choice: mild, medium, spicy, very spicy. The soup was very satisfying and the«Spicy» Shrimp Pad Pik was just yummy! I made sure to eat every bit of it. The amount of food was adequate for lunch in that I could have eaten more but was satisfied. Perhaps I just wanted more because it was better than expected.

I’ve been going to Sompong’s for a few years now. I am almost always satisfied. The food is very fresh and served piping hot. I usually order the chinese. Something like mongolian beef. The fried rice leaves a little to be desired. But the sauce, the meat, and veggies are really nice. I’ve tried the thai dishes as well such as the pad thai and red curry. They were very delicious and much better then the other Thai restaurants I’ve tried in the city. Customer service is absolutely excellent. The owner is so kind and sweet and her employees are the same. I only took off one star because it’s kind of pricey if you don’t get there before the lunch hour closes and the portions are only slightly smaller then what I’m used to. But I suppose in regards to our obesity epidemic, portion control is a good thing.

For $ 6.95 lunch special, you can’t go wrong. I had the Pad Kapow(chicken, basil, onion, and fried rice) spring rolls, which were a little disappointing, and a chicken rice soup. The Pad Kapow was really good, and the portions are just right. All in all, really nice experience for lunch.

Sompong’s and I go way back, When I first started my job in the 90’s my bosses loved to go to this place, so I would often go with them. Over time when the bosses retired I moved on to other places in the area for lunch. So coming back I was happy to see that the picture of David Robinson was still there! I wasn’t expecting to give it an excellent score, but after eating Thai food at a lot of different places, always ordering the Beef Pad Thai as my standard, Sampong’s had the best Beef Pad Thai I have ever tasted! It was so flavorful. The portions could be bigger and the spring rolls are small, but I will definitely be going back when I am jonesing for some Pad Thai. If Thai food ain’t your thing, they also serve Chinese food. Quality of food: 5 Serving size: 3 Quality of service: 4 Environment: 3 Price: 5

Service was great, but the food was pretty bad. Honestly the worst fried rice I have ever had.

I was in San Antonio for work and was at my colleagues discretion as far as food options, so I just went with the flow(not typically the norm for me). We ended up at Sompong’s Thai for lunch located in the back of a little strip mall. The interior was nothing special, some tables and chairs and very minimal on the decorating front. I ordered the Chicken Curry lunch special served with white rice and two spring rolls. Service was basic and food arrived quickly for the table. I’ve never described Thai food as bland but my Chicken Curry was a bit on the bland side and not very memorable. The curry flavor was severely lacking. The spring rolls were fried and when dipped in an overly sweet sauce were fine. My friends rave about this place but I think our tastes our quite different especially when thinking about good Thai food. This place seems to cater to those who work in the area who probably have limited options for lunch and this is probably the best of the worst. Sompong’s is not a destination and if I lived in San Antonio I would seek Thai food elsewhere.

Was in the mood for Thai food after work and had driven post this place before. Took a chance and stopped in for an early dinner. Waitress was helpful in guiding me on their specials. Food was served quickly. Food was pretty good. Not as good as the stuff back in Los Angeles, but not bad.

I’ll always remember this place as where I tried pad thai for the first time. Somehow, despite many adventures trying a million other thai dishes since then, that remains my staple here. Their spring rolls, summer rolls, and egg rolls are all good here, and though they do quick and tasty take out, I prefer to dine in. Plus, you get tea and soup when you dine in! Neither of which are particularly remarkable, but I like the extra bits that make it a full meal. The restaurant has a large dining room and some quiet music playing, but it’s basically no frills– table clothes and a little bit of ethnic décor, but nothing to write home about. If you go in the afternoon for an early dinner, you’ll probably have a lot of privacy with only two or three other tables at the same time, usually spread out quite a bit. Service has always been prompted and friendly– it varies in terms of whether they’re particularly chatty, but the same servers have stuck around for quite some time, which I think says good tings about a restaurant. They do get pretty busy during lunch though! The veggies here are always crisp and fresh, no matter what dish you get, and I love that the add-ins to your order area always plentiful– I use a ton of sprouts and lime in my noodle dishes, and I never feel like I have to ask for more or that they’re holding back on me. Portions are large and you’ll get your money’s worth– fully expect to take some home with you, as you won’t likely finish the order. Whether or not this place is the«best» pad thai in the city(to me when the dish is good it’s pretty similar across the board, but other places get it wrong completely!), it’s what I first tried and tend to prefer– lots of noodles, preferably with chicken, and just the right amount of seasonings without weighing you down. Delicious!

This place has great food but has smells like a toilet explosion. Stopped coming here two years ago because of the smell and went by today thinking they must of fixed the problem by now. Nope. Went in with a friend and left 2 seconds later. Don’t go hear unless you have lost your sense of smell.

The number of folks dressed in scrubs having lunch was a clue that this restaurant is popular with health care workers in the Medical Center. Sadly, myself not so much, for just a few picky things. The complimentary soup was tasteless and insipid. I was served a can of CocaCola, and was charged for steamed white rice. My beef curry was nicely spiced and tasty. What am I bitching about? This restaurant pales in comparison with the food quality and service offered at nearby YaYa Thai. They serve a different delicious free soup every day. Rice comes with your meal, and tea and soft drinks get speedy refills. Their beef curry is a much larger portion for much the same price.

Sometimes, the bf and I like to go to Americanized Asian places to indulge on guilty pleasures like chicken corn soup. This afternoon, we decided to try out Sompong’s which is near to the medical center. As far as Thai restaurants go, it wasn’t impressive, and it is very Americanized. Food: We ordered a chicken basil fried rice and a Tom Yum Goon soup. It took a little while for the food to come out even though were only three tables and we were the only ones actively ordering. The rice was a bit mushy, but the chicken was seasoned decently. When the rice came out, they offered little dishes with peanuts, chili flakes, and some other topping. With a little salt, pepper, and peanuts, the rice was decent, but I think next time I’ll make my own at home. The soup was fine; flavorful with larger-than-I-would-have-liked chunks of mushrooms. A tad salty, but otherwise okay. The portions were a little small compared to other places I have been. Service: The wait-staff is comprised by one waitress who, poor girl, had to manage the register, take orders, bring out the food, greet people, take the phone calls, etc. Despite all the responsibilities she had, she was nice(slightly frazzled, as can be expected) and I felt that she was trying her best. Ambiance: I came in the late afternoon, and it was quiet. The place is clean with utilitarian seating. Pricing: I thought that for the portion size of the food, this place was actually a little expensive compared to other Thai places I went. I could have definitely gone to other places for the same price and gotten two big entrees. I don’t think I’ll be coming back, but they have some fun pictures of the king and queen of Thailand.

Sompong’s is a great spot for lunch. I work in the Medical Center and come here at least once a month. The food is usually cooked already so it doesn’t take them long to prepare it and bring it to you. The service is fast and efficient, there are always waitresses walking around refilling your beverage. Sompong’s isn’t the type of place you’d want to come if you want to sit down and have a nice, relaxing, 2 hour lunch/dinner. they’re usually fast which is great! Plus the soup they give you is very yummy :)

Decent Thai food that is not any worse or better than any other Thai food. I stopped eating there because of their ridiculously slow service. At first, I excused it(belieiving they were just busy) but then realized that they are equally slow when the place is empty too. I think they have a hidden rule that the wait staff is not allowed to move any faster than a sloth and that they must wait until someone asked them for something at least 3 times before considering acting on it. The last time I was there, I asked for a to go box several times. After noticing a pile of boxes against a wall, I finally got up and got it myself. I left my bill+tip on the table and just when I made it to the door, I heard someone say«Oh I sorry. You want to go box, right?» Yeah, right. Nice that you understood that now. I’m normally really laid back about things but let’s face it, they characteristically provide bad service. When there are SOOO many other Thai food restaurants around the corner(Sarikas, Jasmine Thai, Thai Corner, etc), why bother? I no longer patronize Sompong’s.

Decent food but service can be awful. You will be better off going around the corner to a previously reviewed Thai joint. Food is could be better but the service is the real problem. Since good service seems to be their Achilles heal I don’t plan on going back.

Have not been here for about 15 years! Can’t believe it’s been that long! It’s still not bad though. I have my favorite Thai places in San Antonio and when it comes to Thai, I am rather picky!(the ex-mother-in-law was Thai-great cook and… well, let’s just leave it at that). Not a bad place to go for Thai in the medical center, but if I had to choose between Sarika’s(which is literally, like around the corner)…I would pick Sarika’s…

This isn’t the best Thai in the Med. Ctr but it isn’t the worst either. I always get the Dinner Specials which are well priced around $ 8. I usually order the Pad Thai and it comes with 2 spring rolls or one eggroll. The food is good and the price is good so it’s a «thumbs up» for me. The actual restaurant has a weird smell and the only time I dined-in, it was kind of overwhelming — too perfumey. If you’re looking for good, well-priced takeout, you should consider this place!
