Texas Tag & Title

Awful! Wish I could give them zero stars! My husband and I moved to TX from out of state and came by one day to pick up the forms needed to fill out. We waited for 20 minutes to get those papers because somehow there is no more efficient way to give the papers out… here’s a thought, a mailbox or 2 with blank forms on the outside?! Anyway, we told the nasty woman at the window we were new here and needed to know what exactly to do to register in a new state. She handed us 2 papers and basically slammed the window on us. We filled the papers out at home and I returned the following morning. I was the first person in line, and waited until nearly 9:00 for the same woman to open the booth that is signed to open at 8:30. She opened the window and I told her I was doing a new tag registration. She said «well… I need your paperwork». I gave her the 2 forms she had given me yesterday. She said «where’s your registration and title?» I said, I have my registration of course, but I didn’t know I needed the title. I told her we had asked her this yesterday and she didn’t tell us this, and she slammed the window on me again. Rude, horrible service that comes with a «convenience» (I use that term loosely) fee. Save your time and money and go to the tax office!

It kind of hurts me to write this one. I met the owner this morning at a different location and ran in to her as I arrived to get my registration done. She could not have been nicer! But…
I had no clue about the «convenience» fee prior to arrival. I had my daughter with me, so not having to get her out of the car seemed like it would be a great thing, but I ended up waiting in line for over an hour and a half! And there were only 3 cars in front of me! The woman at the window was not friendly in the least. By the time I left, I had pretty much vowed to never return.
It’s worth the $ 2 coupon that they give you to not have to sit in your car for that long or deal with that woman. (Seriously though. I could have driven to Austin in the same amount of time!)
Just go to the Tax Assessors office. Save your money and sanity.

Convenience comes with a price. Bexar county raised our renewal registration $ 10 this last year, so it’s roughly $ 75 — these guys charge a $ 17 convenience fee, so now you’re spending $ 92 roughly. All businesses must make money, I understand: but for me it’s the tax office. Good thing though, it’s one stop for it all. I did get my inspection done, but did decline paying the $ 17/​fee for my renewal — call me cheap… but I’m off to the Tax office now. In a hurry? Don’t wanna get out of your car? Have money to burn… then these are your guys! I was also irritated I was quoted a $ 13/​fee over the phone, simply to arrive and try to have a little more squeezed out!

When somebody told me about this place I was excited to get everything done in one stop. I probably would have been better off at the county office. On the first trip, they told me they didn’t have anymore of the forms to do an out of state inspection. I had the inspection done elsewhere and returned here today only to be told that they wouldn’t complete my registration because the other place left my name blank on the form. The lady wouldn’t even let me fill in my name. I’ll be recommending to anybody I know to go elsewhere.

This station has refused to serve me TWICE. The first time I went was January 2, 2014. My inspection sticker is due in February but my registration is due in January. I was trying to get my stickers for the same month. I was a little annoyed when the guy on duty told me their policy was to not inspect vehicles prior to the due month, but I can understand something like that. So this time, I went today, February 5, 2014 and was again refused. I am a military spouse currently stationed at Fort Polk in Louisiana. I have been a Texas resident my whole life and maintain my driver’s license and vehicle registrations in Texas. However, since my vehicle stays with me in Louisiana, I am required to have Louisiana insurance but since my vehicle is registered in Texas, I am required to meet the Texas insurance minimums. So the guy looks at my insurance card and proceeds to tell me that despite being from Texas, having my vehicle registered in Texas, having a valid Texas driver’s license and being in the military currently sojourning in another state solely due to military orders, since my insurance card says Louisiana Insurance Card on the top that he cant and wont serve me. I understand policies, but I have NEVER had so much trouble TRYING TO FOLLOW THE LAW!!! not only did they refuse to serve those serving in the military who just happen to be stuck in another state, but they somehow manage to justify charging a $ 4.50 official inspection service fee, a $ 1.00 station fee and a $ 1.00 fee for paying with a debit/​credit card. all of a sudden your $ 14.50 inspection costs $ 21.00! for those of you who don’t do math very well, that is a 44.8% increase added to the initial cost… ummm…yeah, I can think of much more creative ways to get screwed.

The best part, no long ass lines and they took off both old stickers and put the new ones on.
My only complaint is that there are not more of these around town.

Great efficient service. I didn’t have my paperwork, and was admittedly a couple months expired. They took my insurance and got me the current tag with no problems. No line in the tax office anymore for me!
