The Shack

The Snack is close to home and based on ratings I decided to visit for lunch today. The man at the register was polite and service was quick. I ordered a cheeseburger combo and for a little over $ 2, I upgraded the fries to chilli cheese fries. I also ordered mangonada, all to go. There was about a ten minute wait which was very reasonable. When I got home, I was disappointed to see that I had received regular fries instead of chill cheese fries. Needless to say, since I paid for the upgrade, I went back to the restaurant. There is nothing more disappointing than getting the wrong order and going back turned my quick twenty minute trip into more of an hour long one. When I returned, the lady at the counter was very nice and apologetic and she made up for the mistake. That’s a big plus! I went back home with a giant order of fries and $ 5 off my next order. Five stars for customer service!
The food: The burger was good, nothing extraordinary but worth supporting a small business. The fries lacked flavor and could’ve been better with the addition of some cheddar cheese on top of the bland cheese sauce. The mangonada was refreshing but could’ve been made better with some fresh mango pieces. I will go back and try other menu items.

This place is so good and close to home too! Bacon cheeseburger with jalapeños and a side of tater tots are awesome! Best burger in the area for sure!

My favorite burger spot! Had the double cheeseburger today. Huge burger, and oh so good. And of course the snow as a side tops the meal off.

Favorite spot and too close to home. Dorinachos and the southwest burgers are unique but very tasty.

Bacon cheeseburger was soooo good !!! My new favorite place also had a watermelon lovers w/​gummy worms! Next time I will try the build your own funnel cakes and churros.

We had burgers and they were very delicious. They have a wide range of snacks. Definitely going back to try there Loaded funnel cake and fruit cups!

I was waiting on my wife’s iPad screen replacement about a mile or two up the street, so I did what I usually do when it’s time to eat and I am in an area I am not familiar with… I Unilocal!
So I saw the great reviews for The Shack and Sapore’s Pizza. I wanted to try them both, so I went and got a slice of REAL NY style pizza at Sapore’s (awesome, see my review for them) and then I went to The Shack. The location is a bit strange (located inside a Food Mart at a Chevron gas station), but don’t let that stop you, some of the best places are hidden gems like this. There is parking available, plus indoor and outdoor seating. I was greeted kindly by two of their employees, possibly one was the owner? It took me a few minutes to check out their surprisingly large menu (with a crazy amount of desserts). I wanted some hot food and decided to go with the Chili Dog and Fries rather than their burgers, which also looked delicious. The nice gentleman at the counter told me that it is available as a combo (includes a drink). Total came to less than $ 7 (including tax). I checked out their pictures and wall deco for a couple of minutes, then had a seat. They brought the food and drink cup to my table (nice gesture for a counter service place). The fries were plentiful, hot, and delicious. The hot dog was plump and sliced part way through (so it could hold the chili better). The chili had beans and was also tasty. The gentleman thanked me for my business and I told him that he would make a killing in the Alamo Ranch area, as Sonic and the other fast food joints just don’t cut it. I would rather support the local small businessman any day! I will be back, even if it means traveling from Alamo Ranch. I have to try one of their huge variety of sno-​cones (including cream-​ice which I have never had, and/​or their funnel cakes with various toppings). Check this place out, guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Your GPS will lie to you, but once you find this place you will be happy you did. A very good variety of hamburgers and hot dogs and even funnel cake. Kids loved the dessert choices and I have never seen my wife look at a cup of cucumber slices like that before.

Don’t be put off by the fact it’s attached to a gas station the food and prices are the absolute best. Not to mention all of the yummy snacks.

3.25 stars. Not for nothing, but I think I might actually prefer Whataburger to The Shack in terms of pure burger eating enjoyment. That said, The Shack has nice character, a friendly staff, and some interesting snack items that definitely warrant a return visit (tough to say no to build your own funnel cake, shaved iced drinks of varying flavors, and numerous preparations of corn in a cup). Relatively close to UTSA for those who have a minute to hop off campus and grab a meal. Also, at less than $ 10 for a burger, drink, and side of tater tots (including tax), The Shack probably gains a few extra points for being a good value as well.

My double cheese burger was off the chain good, and service was excellent. It’s connected to a gas station, but there is seating indoor and outdoor patio.

Still in search of a good sno cone/​shaved ice spot in Texas… we decided to try this place out. It is connected to a gas station so I was kind of hesistant but this place was better than I expected. I am very critical of sno cones/​shaved ice since I’ve had better ones out of state but this place is probably the best one I’ve had here in SA. Their menu is pretty big but we only tried the cherry limeaid sno cone with cream and strawberry shaved ice. Definitely recommend the shaved ice… the ice was premade for these so it was alot smoother than the sno cones in my opinion. I would say a good spot for a cool treat esp on a nice day since they have a cute patio area to enjoy your food.

Went here because i was craving a funnel cake. My trip was so worth it. The funnel cake is so good! They could do with more sitting areas though. I’m definitely coming back to try some other things from their menu.

Good food no matter what you order it’s all good!
Try the Mexican dog or the Bistro Burger

This was my first time here. One of my clients brought me here for a lunch break.
The chili cheese dog was amazing! I really enjoyed it. The fries were a bit too seasoned with seasoned salt (I don’t quite understand that). It is personally not my tastes, but if you like that, then you will enjoy these fries imensly.

Excellent selection of snacks and treats. The fruit cups and mangonadas are fresh, tasty, and priced just right. The burgers are pretty awesome too and made right in front of you. For the price you would be tempted to expect a lot less but everything I’ve had here has been top notch. Everyone is friendly and service is fast. Definitely worth checking out.

This place is awesome!!! It’s super close to where I live and they have a lot of delicious choices for food and snacks. This will be my new place to satisfy all my cravings. Loved it!

This is really old fashion at its finest, and it’s in a gas station… Fast service with a smile, will definitely come back. Oh yea pleenty of cheap sweets for the kiddos.

Pretty cool spot with lots of options. I’ve only been once but I enjoyed my first time here. I ordered the watermelon raspa… It was tasty but artificial.

Awesome food and they’re pretty fast. I’d suggest calling ahead if you want it any faster.
