Our specialty is the complete exhaust system, from the cylinder head to the tail pipe. All headers, exhaust manifolds, catalytic converters, pipes and mufflers. From original style quiet exhaust to high performance rumble, and everything in between. Our attention to detail is not matched by any other exhaust shop, proven by our lifetime warranty on workmanship. K&N air filters and performance intake systems are offered to compliment our exhaust systems, which can increase power and economy. We also perform expert brake service, using the best parts available and proven installation techniques for the quietest and best performing brake work possible. We offer a lifetime warranty on brake pads and shoes, at no additional charge. Trailer hitches, shocks, struts, drive axles, u-​joints, engine and trans mounts.

History

Established in 1946.

Charles Scott, (Scotty) started in 1946 at a small location located at 4th and «I» st. in San Bernardino. When the (now) 215 freeway was built, he was re-​located to make room for the freeway. There have been a few different locations around San Bernardino through the years, but the most memorable was the location at 2nd and «G». This location was taken by the city for redevelopment, and the business was moved to Baseline and «E», in 1978, where it is today. The tradition of exceptional work at a good value has lived on at Scotty’s for all these years.

Tom has owned Scotty’s Muffler & Brake since 1990. Tom began tinkering with cars before he got his drivers license. This hobby turned into a living in 1978, when he went to work in a shop doing brake and exhaust work. It was just a couple of years later and Tom was a part owner in a custom muffler shop in Hawaii. It was here that Tom honed his skills in the ‘real’ custom exhaust world, building headers for sprint cars and hot rods. In the early 80’s, Tom returned to California and started a mobile muffler service. He would go to the customers location and perform the work on the spot. This was very successful, and by 1990, Scotty was heading into retirement, so the move to Scotty’s Muffler was the natural next step. With his entire adult life spent in the custom exhaust business, Tom has the experience to handle any exhaust and brake problem that comes up.

Tom’s the man. He got my exhaust system that was installed with clamps welded in place in no time and for a great price.
If you’re thinking about an exhaust system for your vehicle don’t just buy an off-​the-​shelf system; give Tom a call and you will end up with a better fitting and performing system. I wish I had done that.

This last week I was a casualty of catalytic converter theft while parked in an sb parking lot. My car rumbled as I drove up to scottys and it was obvious I needed work done. Tom gave me a very fair price, stored my vehicle over night, performed high quality work, and even signed a letter for my insurance claim. Thanks Tom. Next muffler stop will definitely be scottys.

I am a woman and tend to be wary as some assume that I am an easy target. Like the other reviewer that stated as a senior citizen he feels like an easy target. I went there thinking my brakes felt off. They looked at my brakes, and told me nothing was wrong. I am so grateful for someone that isn’t looking to get my money. The service was great! I love giving my service to the local shops and i will be back and i recommend them completely. Both Tom and the mechanic on duty were great.

I cannot begin to count how many times I have gone to Scotty’s muffler and brake service to have work done on my vehicles. Tom face is a straight up, honest business man that will take good care of you. I live in Yucaipa and there are other muffler and brake shops closer than Scotty’s but I would never go anyplace else other than Scotty’s muffler and brake service. I always receive excellent work with more than fair prices.

Too often when a senior citizen like me walks into a repair facility, we’re instantly marked for some form of scam and we routinely hold our breath while the mechanic has our vehicle up on the rack.
I was referred to this facility by our mechanic and was told «This is a guy I’d trust with my life.» Still, I had that nagging feeling when I pulled into their parking lot. My vehicle was making the most awful noise from underneath — a horribly vibrating rattle of sorts.
This 2004 Jeep Liberty spent most of its life in the environs of Western New York near Buffalo and you can imagine the amount of salt it saw on the roads over a 10-​year span, from one blizzard to the next. So I was braced for the notion my exhaust system was rusted beyond recognition.
However, after 5 minutes on the rack, Tom Face emerged from the bay, grinned at me and said, «Someone up there is lookin’ after you.» Huh? He went on to explain that vehicles like mine have an all stainless steel system and though it’s brown in color, there’s no sign of any damage at all.
That horrible noise I was hearing? It was merely a retention strap, which came loose. He put on a new one and a mere $ 38.00 later in under a ½-​hour, I was wheeling out of their driveway with a huge smile on my face.
When I started this review I told you how nerve wracking it is for us seniors. However, to meet a really honest gentleman like Tom was a distinct privilege. Anyone could have come back from that bay and told me the whole system needed replacement and I would have believed them. Bur there for the grace of Tom’s honesty and integrity, I was able to leave knowing I just met someone worth knowing.
That said, if I now faced the situation where I or any of my friends really did need a new exhaust system, just who do you think I’d recommend? NOTHING beats honesty.

I was having really bad brake problems for the past two weeks. I work graveyard so after work that morning I googled «brake service in san Bernardino» and Scotty’s came up. Tom is an honest guy who is genuine when he says that customer service is important to him. He really worked with me on price with the service that I needed and I couldn’t be more grateful. I highly recommend anybody to take their car there. I know if I have any future issues I’m coming back to Scottys.

I’m an old man and have been going to muffler shops for over 60 years. Last time I was at Scotty’s was in the late 60’s. Service and quality of workmanship remains the same. What a pleasant surprise after calling around in two states for someone to put a set of duals on my 47 Ford. Two other appointments had to be cancelled because the shops couldn’t figure it out. I remembered Scottys and made the call. Reassured over the phone I made a long drive and am so glad I did. The quality of the products, the workmanship were as good as it gets. Every one of these guys is topnotch. Its one of those places you can plan a vacation around, which I will do when the next project is up and rolling. Did I mention they were the most reasonable price wise as well.
I can’t recommend anyone any higher than this.

Last week, I took my 2015 Dodge Charger R/​T Plus to Scotty’s, which is usual for us when we buy new Mustang GTs. It’s important that you know I’ve been coming here as long as I’ve had a license to drive, and remember my parents coming here when I was a child. Yeah we know them well, and they know us by first name. They did a sick, kick ass job on the install (AS USUAL FOR THEM), so good in fact, I was asked if I was actually driving the new SRT8. Great job guys, the new kid did an amazing job, and I will take you my business, and continually refer all my family and friends to you. Thanks again…

I have been going to Scotty’s when needed for several decades. We do a lot of miles on very rough mountain dirt roads and so there have been probably 6 repairs done in the last 30 years. Every time it is a quick and inexpensive fix. They are honest and I would recommend them to any friend needing exhaust work done.

A diagnostic by Pep Boys on my 2007 Expedition determined the catalytic converters needed to be replaced, but they don’t do any welding so could not do the work. I called a Ford dealer who told me it would cost $ 3,600.00. I then called Firestone in Redlands, who also could not do the work, but was referred to Scotty’s. I went in to Scotty’s, spoke with Tom who had the vehicle on the rack and an answer for me in about twenty minutes. Tom’s answer was, «I am pretty sure the converters are still under factory warranty, and would suggest taking it to a Ford dealer.» I asked Tom what I owed and his answer was, «Nothing.» After taking the car to a different Ford dealer it was determined that the converters were, in fact, still under warranty. Thanks very much Scotty’s and Tom for your honesty and saving me several thousand dollars. I will most certainly return to Scotty’s for any future work that needs doing.

I’ve been using Scotty’s for muffler repair for just exactly 30 years. I used to have VW camper vans that needed a touch of the welder’s hand every few months. Prior to that I had several expensive muffler replacements but discovered that Scotty’s wizards could weld on patches, replace rusted-​out tubing, and keep a VW muffler working for years.

I went in because I thought I may have a bad catalytic converter. I explained the symptoms and after going thru a 20 questions sessions they told me they though it was my fuel pump. They recommended Rollings Automotive down the street and it turned out to be my fuel pump. They could have done what other auto repair shops do and take my money or charge me a diagnostic fee and send me down the road but they are honest and truly care about getting the best service for their customers. I will recommend Scotty’s to everyone who is looking for good honest hard working auto mechanics. When I need muffler service they have my business.

Went to Scotty’s on July 9th, 2013 because I had some sort of exhaust leak. Tom took my car in right away and had one of his techs inspect my car. About a half hour or so later, Tom lets me know where the leak was and explains that he’s not able to fix the problem on my car. I appreciated his honesty and asked him how much I owed him. He told me me I owed nothing at all! I didn’t think any businesses like this existed anymore. I was truly amazed at his response. It’s hard to find such honest people these days…
Thank you Tom for being an honest person and running an honest business, and I’ll definitely be taking my cars there in the future for any muffler issues.

Its hard to find an honest auto repair shop. These guys are that one. They only work on mufflers.
I took my work truck there for what I thought was a exhaust leak, turned out to be something more. Tom, the manager spent more than an hour working on it, and couldn’t fix it. Referred me to a good shop down the street and didn’t charge me a thing. Even when I offered to pay.
I will be going to Scotty’s for all my exhaust business in the future.
