San Bruno Garbage Co Inc aka Recology of San Bruno

My family needed a debris box dumpster for the massive house cleaning my family was performing. Who knew a glorified garbage can rental would be so expensive– $ 441.00 for a 7 yard container.
Whoever I spoke to on the phone was crass and lacked tact. I can’t even begin to list all the criticisms I had with the conversation, but the one that put me over the edge was when I asked for her to send me an order confirmation by either email or fax, she said, «we don’t do that. When you order by credit card, that serves as your confirmation.»
What a bunch of crock! I told her I needed an email confirmation. She got all bent out of shape and started to stutter some nonsense about the credit card sale serving as the confirmation. I cut her off and said, «Listen, you will send me an email confirmation.» There would be no more discussion on that simple fact. Yes, a credit card statement will confirm you were charged and from whom, but it does not include a breakdown of the service and what you are actually purchasing. The lady on the line finally backed down and agreed to send a confirmation.
My other gripe includes the time range. They said they would deliver any time between 10 AM and 3 PM. My dad called and asked them to arrive earlier, since we all took the day off work and had friends coming over to help. The customer service rep said she couldn’t guarantee, but would try to get them to come earlier. They did not arrive until 2 PM. When the delivery guy arrived with our debris box, he hit an electric line with his lift… luckily he took care of it. But he was pretty sloppy with his delivery and kept going back and forth with his placement of the box.
The good news is we got an email confirmation and they actually showed up with our product… but the service was poor and had my blood boiling for a little while.

I had to deal with extremely rude and incompetent customer service! I had to call three times for them to send us our garbage and recycle bin! Also they gave us the wrong pick up days and when I called to ask about pick up days again Annel gave me a lot of attitude. If you deal with this company please remember to get a name.

I’ve been a resident of San Bruno for nearly 8 years, having moved down from SF. After they replaced their incredibly loud garbage trucks a few years back, I’ve come to like them. The weekly early morning garbage/​recycling pickups are now extremely quiet.
They do free twice annual junk pickups, which is great for keeping the house decluttered. And a couple of weeks ago, they started a pilot organics program that we are a part of! They gave us a compost pail to keep in our kitchen. We dump that every night into the green waste toter, which they now pickup every week.
My only complaint is that they don’t take plastic bags in the recycling bin.

the worst service. they dump trash on our street and dont clean up. they won’t get out of their truck. the twice annual service has to be the most byzantine set of rules. why can’t a garbageman get out of the truck and pick up stuff and throw it in their truck? they threw away our garbage cans! everything has to be in a five gallon bag — right.
— piss poor service. prices going up and their service are going down. plus their new trucks spew garbage out of the back when on the freeways.

For a San Francisco resident, Recology of San Bruno offers the least expensive way to throw garbage away that is still close by.
Stated cost is $ 65/​per ton (dirt/​debris/​demolition, asphalt, etc), but be aware there is NO weighing station, so the cost is purely an eyeball estimate from one of the workers. It’s also ONLY open to the public on SATURDAYS 7:30am to 3 pm! That’s it.

They drive me nuts!
The rates go up and up and the service spirals downward.
They used to offer an annual big pick-​up to all customers, now it is just single family homes… and well commercial residents, like me, pay far higher rates and don’t get much in return. Every year the City ups the rates and I am stuck paying it. There needs to be some competition here! They charge extra for everything.
In Fact my bill has doubled in less then 10 years. That is a 10% rate increase per year. Who gets that? Wouldn’t a 10% annual raise be wonderful? unrealistic and unsustainable, but dreamy.
The transfer station rates are about $ 10 – 15 more then The San Carlos Transfer Station or and $ 20 more then Ox Mountain per cubic yard.
