Dr. Kelly was very helpful in getting me both contacts and glasses. Because my eyes are both –1.25, it is not strictly necessary for me to wear contacts/​glasses all the time. Dr. Kelly recommended that I get one-​day contacts, which fit my needs much better than any I have gotten in the past, since I am able to wear them anytime without the hassle of storing them in solution, only to not be used for the next 4 – 5 days. I was able to take home contacts the same day, and my glasses were ready within a week. I’d highly reccomend Dr. Kelly to anyone looking for an eye doctor.

Dr. Kelly has been my eye doctor for about 5 years now. He is professional and on-​time with my appointments, he is a very good eye doctor (I work in the medical field) and his equipment is all up to date. He gives me all the best and most recently published eye health advice and finds the most comfortable pair of contacts for me. He also has some roots on the north east coast (like me!) AND he told me the hot spots around the bay area to go to when I first moved here. I highly recommend. He’s also near Molly Stone’s and GNC so you can do some shopping while you are waiting for your pupils to constrict again. (:

Dr. Kelly is very professional and has a great bedside/​chair side manner. It is a pleasure to have your eyes checked out by him.

Had another great experience with Dr. Kelly. He spotted a potentially serious problem with my eyes and sent me to a specialist right away. Fortunately everything was ok, but I appreciate that he was able to spot the issue early on in case it gets worse. Janet was helpful as always and they are great about calling to follow up about appointments and prescriptions. I’ve been seeing optometrists for 20 years and he has been the best.

Dr. Kelly is my optometrist. My husband was unhappy with his so he saw Dr. Kelly, loved him. We had a friend visit from Boston and he was having a problem so he saw Dr. Kelly. Loved him.
I had an issue with some glasses, brought them in and received Excellent, Fast, Friendly, FREE replacement. What more could you ask for?

If there were 6 stars to give, Dr. Kelly would get them. I came to him with a serious eye problem because my regular optometrist of 16 years kept telling me that my eyes were okay. By the time I went to Dr. Kelly both of my eyes were so bad, I could barely see. After explaining what was going on to his receptionist, I was fit in to his schedule that same day. Dr. Kelly diagnosed my condition and started me on medicine immediately. He also met me at a specialist’s office the following day for secondary evaluation. He continued treating my eyes (until they were better) for almost 6 months). During that time, Dr. Kelly often checked on me at home. I am happy to say that my vision improved and I can see again. I attribute this to his experience, commitment to repair my eyes, and quick diagnosis. His receptionist is the nicest lady. Always professional and very down to earth. One of the previous reviewers mentioned that Dr. Kelly’s has a stern personality. I thought that too, after my first visit. He might come across as «all business», but that is not the case if you hang in there. Maybe he’s just trying to screen out bad customers! By the second visit he was telling jokes, smiling, and I knew that I had made the perfect choice in choosing him for an optometrist. He genuinely cares about his patients. His office is located in the Bayhill Shopping area, where there is plenty of parking too.

I really liked Dr. Kelly! I came in a little while ago for my first routine eye exam since I got LASIK (that was almost 7 years ago). It took me a long time to decide to do it because after years of contact-​lens-​and-​glasses-​torment, I was enjoying the freedom from eye doctors and their sting-​y and numb-​y eye drops.
The receptionist is awesome. She’s so polite (and funny), and makes you feel welcome when you come in the door. And Dr. Kelly himself is a freaking riot. I’ve never actually had FUN at an eye doctor appointment before. This was before my husband and I moved to HMB by the way — it came up in conversation, and Dr. Kelly took the time to write down a list of restaurants and stuff in HMB that he recommended.
As much as I am loath to admit it, I am getting older… and despite my LASIK, I sometimes get a little fuzzy when looking at computer screens for a long time. So Dr. Kelly whipped me up a prescription for glasses (for the first time in my life, NORMAL glasses that aren’t 4″ thick, and can actually be cute). There was no upselling by him or the receptionist when I was choosing my frames (they have a great selection by the way) and it didn’t take that long before I could come pick them up.
I highly recommend Dr. Kelly for all of your peeper needs.

Just got through an eye exam with Dr. Kelly and it was a very pleasant experience. He is friendly and professional and Gwen (I believe that’s her name, sorry if I’m mistaken) is very nice, as well. They’re always are accommodating and run a smooth operation. They never hard sell you on anything. in fact, Dr. Kelly tries to save you money!
I look forward to my yearly exams.

Unfortunately my experience with Dr. Kelly was not anything like the other reviews. I actually ended up here because I go to Skyline and they have a deal with him, and there are vouchers for a discounted exam. I should have known that anything that has a discount cannot be the best service out there.
The doctor does not smile. he is very stern and a little douche like in my opinion. I don’t know if its because I am Asian or the fact that I had the voucher from school, but his receptionist and himself were not the most friendly people in the world. I didn’t feel comfortable with my visit nor did I want to go back after my first exam. (I had to go back again to make sure the new contacts were okay).
My dad was also with me and not once did the doctor greet him.
I don’t know what it is… but I think he better take that big fat stick out of his @$$.
Although I got what I needed (a new prescription). I definitely will NOT be coming back to this place ever again.

Maybe he was just in a bad mood this day, but he seemed pretty short and unfriendly with me. The plus side is that I think he does honest business. He let me know that my prescription wasn’t so bad as to require me to get new glasses, but he did give me the updated numbers.

I actually find Dr. Kelly to be a great optometrist. I’ve been coming to him for years — he’s very personable, which I find very important in a doctor. I like it when people who take care of my health remember who I am, ask me about my family and how I’m doing. He is also very knowledgeable and professional about his practice — you can’t go wrong with this doctor.
The reason my review gives 3 stars is because the receptionist has gotten every single one of my orders in the last few years wrong. She is very good about helping you try on glasses and giving you feedback. She is very sweet. On the other hand, I always get either the wrong number of boxes of contacts, the wrong shape of frameless lenses, one time the type of lens I ordered was transcribed wrong. Without fail. Perhaps if you are very very clear about what you want her to do, you’ll get your order right. I will try that my next visit. That and I’ve never found a convenient chance to complain, since at the time, I went to college in a different state, so sending my glasses in to be changed would leave me blind for several weeks.

Dr. Kelly was my optometrist for several years, and I always found him fine until my last visit. He spent the entire exam lecturing me about my weight and trying to get me to join Weight Watchers with him! When I asked him how my weight was effecting my eyesight (especially considering my eyesight had improved), he admitted it wasn’t but said «you should lose weight anyway.»
Now, before you all jump on me, let me say that I am not saying I don’t need to lose weight. However, I have several very complicated health issues that Dr. Kelly is aware of those issues. In addition, he is my EYE DOCTOR not my General Practitioner or Internist. If my regular Internist isn’t on my case to lose weight, why is my eye doctor?
The front desk receptionist/​assistant Janet is amazing and I will miss her as I find a new eye doctor.
I am giving him 3 stars because I did have good service. He would have gotten 4 if he didn’t lecture me about issues unrelated to my eye health.

Dr. Kelly is knowledgable and friendly. I had my eye exam a month ago and I am happy he was able to get it right. However, his receptionist is somewhat «money-​orianted»… One day after I visted Dr. Kelly, I found one of my glasses nose pads was missing and asked for help, she charged me $ 4 for that! I was kind of shocked. I got free nose pads in all my life :-) This is the first time people asking money for it…
Next year, I’ll try another Optomistrist…

I’ve been seeing Dr. Kelly for almost twenty years now (started way back when he was working at the Sears in San Bruno, as I was a student and the only credit card I had was for Sears). He is an awesome optometrist, always very thourough and very knowlegable. Even tho I have to get citycarshare and drive from the city, he is worth it.

Dr Kelly is a fantasitc optometrist. My eye exam went smoothly, he helped me pick out a pair of glasses that work perfectly with my round face. At no point did he try to upsell me, when I asked him about transition lenses he was very honest and said that some of his customers really like them, and others don’t. Most of all upon meeting him for the first time, I felt like I was visiting with an old friend. I have recommended him to my family and friends.

I have been going to Dr. Kelly for many years now (exams for both contact lenses and eye glasses) and have always felt confident that I was getting a thorough eye exam. Although he has a sarcastic sense of humor, he is very nice.
He is very knowledgeable and very aware of specific eye conditions that merit a referral to a specialist. As I am extremely near-​sighted, Dr. Kelly has informed me that my eyes are more vulnerable to retinal detachment and has referred me to other doctors for consultation.
I also appreciate that Dr. Kelly no longer uses the «old» glaucoma testing method (the puff of air in the eyes): A few years ago, by using a more modern test, he determined that my eye pressure was somewhat elevated and encouraged me to see a specialist … who ultimately made the glaucoma diagnosis a few months later. I feel fortunate that the diagnosis was made while I was still relatively young and before significant damage had occurred to my vision.
Dr. Kelly’s receptionist, Janet, has been with him a long time and is super patient and very competent.

Dr. Kelly would have gotten a 5 star from me, but apparently my glasses were on back order for a couple weeks and no one thought to call me. It took 3 weeks to get them. But that’s my only gripe. Here’s the good stuff:
–Nice, personalized treatment
–He did not have to dilate my pupils for the whole day. In fact, whatever he put in my eyes cleared by the time the exam was over. (That was a special request, I had an event afterwards and didn’t want to show up looking strung out).
–His receptionist helped me try on 20 or so pairs of glasses to find something that fit my face perfectly.
–I like supporting small local businesses
–Takes insurance

I found this optometrist via my insurance website, but I’m glad I did. Dr. Kelly was very nice and helpful. I had concerns about my eyes and he went above and beyond to try to find any issues and to explain what he saw. He was quite knowledgeable and thorough. He wasn’t trying to rush me out and he really took the time to do a complete analysis of what my prescription should be. He had me focus on certain letters to make sure that the prescription he was giving me was correct, none of my past optometrist ever did that. He was very patient as I’m the type of person that says, «Can you do that over again? Go back to the first lense.» …and I probably did that about 6 times.
His secretary was very nice and had it together. She was quite helpful and knowledgeable about all the clients and their insurance coverage.
I will definitely recommend seeing him and I will continue to go to him for all my eyesight needs.
