Baby Sips is a board-​certified provider of in-​home lactation consultation, support and education for San Francisco Bay Area families. Our purpose and passion is to help parents navigate through any of the myriad of breastfeeding issues that can arise. Depending on your needs, it might simply be answering questions, clarifying something you might have heard, or offering some reassurance. Other times it can be a lot more involved. In all cases we are here to help. And we do this in the most caring and supportive environment possible: yours.

Since we come to you, there is no stress traveling with your newborn and trying to get to an appointment on time. We help you create the perfect nursing station in your home and then give you the proper tools and guidance to make it work best for you and your baby. Everything is done in your environment, where you’re most comfortable, in control and at ease.

As a International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), I saw the need for this type of service and started Baby Sips in 2010

There is nothing more rewarding than being with and supporting new families. I see women literally transform when things begin to work in the way they want and hoped. I love what I do. I love following my passion: supporting the mother, empowering her, encouraging her, validating her.

I’ve worked with my mentor and 20-​year industry veteran, Sheila Janakos, at Healthy Horizon’s Breastfeeding Center in Burlingame, where I provided counseling, education, and support to moms at every stage. I’ve also worked at Mills-​Peninsula Hospital, and have regularly taught breastfeeding classes and assisted with support groups. Additionally, I’ve worked as a labor doula, a massage therapist with a focus on prenatal massage, and a certified infant massage instructor.

I am a International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), Registered Lactation Consultant (RLC), Certified Lactation Educator (CLE), Certified MMassage Therapist (CMT), & Certified Infant Massage Teacher (CIMT)

I write my review not as a nursing mother, but as a pediatrician who refers patients to see Sheridan. Simply put, Sheridan is great. If I have any concerns about how a nursing mom is doing I know Sheridan will either solve whatever problems they are having or simply give them the simple advice they need for continued success. Sheridan was amazing! from the first phone call to today, she is so quick to respond and is with you 100%. The moment she walked through my door, I knew she would make me feel right at ease, no judgement. I feel like she is a friend:) Her fun attitude and her amazing knowledge made my time with her so worth every penny. She even makes sending in her paperwork to insurance easy with a step by step paper. She made me realize that I could breastfeed my baby. She even took the time to help me figure out how to wear my baby carrier. She even goes the extra mile to respond to questions after the appointment.

This review is long overdue, but I can’t recommend Sheridan highly enough! If you are nervous, have questions, or need help breastfeeding, see Sheridan. If you are waiting for your milk to come in, are worried about your supply, or are keeping an eye on your baby’s weight, see Sheridan!
A friend recommended taking a breastfeeding class while I was pregnant, and I took Sheridan’s class at Women’s Care Medical Group. I hadn’t realized that I had no idea how nursing worked and what was involved from latching, to pumping equipment, to balms and butters. Her class was super informative and made me feel confident about nursing. Of course, I didn’t think I was going to have any issues (just like I thought everything was going to go according to my birth plan!)
After our son was born, he lost quite a bit of weight and my milk was late coming in. We were advised to supplement with formula and see a lactation consultant right away. I called Sheridan, but unfortunately she was out of town that weekend and we ended up making an appointment with someone else. We ended up seeing two other lactation consultants, who were great at showing us how to get a good latch and how to pump 8x a day to increase supply, but were not super helpful beyond that.
Two and a half months later, at the end of my rope with pumping and ready to give up on nursing altogether, I called Sheridan. She came over the next morning, on Christmas Eve day no less, and within minutes completely put me at ease. She is so good with babies, and with stressed out mamas!
She gave me a plan to actually stop pumping and keep nursing. She even let me borrow her scale for a week so I could weigh my baby and make sure he was gaining at a good rate. The follow up care she gives is worth the consultation fee alone. She followed up with us to check in and see how we were doing pretty often. She was totally there for me when I would get stressed out that he wasn’t gaining enough weight, talk me through it, and help me troubleshoot where we could make some tweaks if needed. Sheridan is not only an amazing lactation consultant, but she is also definitely someone you want in your support network. She was really there for us when we needed her.
Long story short, my son is almost eight months and we’re still going strong! I am so proud of both of us for sticking it out, and we owe so much to Sheridan’s expert guidance and care. I really don’t think we could have done it without her. If you need to see a lactation consultant, I wouldn’t look any further. She’s the best!

Sheridan is the BEST. I hired her on recommendation from my doula, and man am I glad I did. First off, she’s very practical about the whole breastfeeding thing, which I appreciated. After my baby lost 14% of her birth weight because I had no milk, I wasn’t in a good place. Sheridan is a great cheerleader and is readily available via text and email. She really helped me get over some major hurdles mentally and physically. Im now sitting here nursing my now 1 month old at 4:45 am as i write this review– something i wouldnt have been able to do if it hadnt been for Sheridan.

Currently I am nursing writing this review. Without Sheridan’s help, I might have given up breast feeding. I can’t thank enough to Sheridan and highly recommend to every new mom.
When I delivered my first baby four months ago, I suffered from lacking milk. Baby preferred the formula and didn’t like nursing from my breast. Then my pediatrician told me about Sheridan.
Sheridan introduced me herb that I can take and taught me how to bottle feed the baby. Then once my milk supply has increased, she helped me to exclusively breast feed for 24 hrs and measured the baby weight to show I am ready for exclusively breast feeding. Ever since than, I’ve been happily breast feeding my baby. It makes me so happy to see my baby on my breast eating well.

This review has been a long time coming. I now have a heavy, tall, growing one year old, and not a week goes by where I am not thankful for everything Sheridan did for me and my daughter — most of which was just being there, and not giving up — during those first few weeks.
My issue: Low milk supply. My ped recommended the normal stuff — eat more of this, try drinking more water, etc — but when that didn’t work it was either call BabySips or switch to formula, which was not part of my plan and as an emotional, sleep-​deprived semi-​basket case, I was at my wits end.
Enter Sheridan. The first time we spoke, I was balling my eyes out — big fat tears with nose drool and convulsive sobs. All she said was, ‘I’ll be over first thing tomorrow.’ And she showed up with a glowing smile and a huge hug. Sheridan knows her stuff. She can make you laugh and smile if you need it and will not leave you alone until you and your baby are both thriving. And that is KEY.
From what I’ve heard about other lactation consultants is that they might come to you, but you might have to travel to them, they watch you nurse, they weigh your baby, they mention some things that you won’t remember (because you haven’t showered in two days), maybe throw some pamphlets at you, and send you off. You are just another name on their roster and when that first meeting is over, you think you’re supposed to get it, and when you don’t, you’re left frustrated, alienated, and feeding formula against your wishes. Sheridan is the complete opposite of that. She will check in with you daily, she will visit you as often as you need, she will bring you stuff if you need it, she will go to your ped appt with you, and she will even hold your baby while you shower.
Sheridan never stops caring. Not after 8 weeks, or 6 months, or a year. She will be part of your village for as long as you need her.

Although breastfeeding is touted as a natural and beautiful thing (and it is), I was surprised how tricky it can be! I got the tip to take a breastfeeding class before having the baby. It seemed strange to me at the time, but I’m so glad that I heeded this advice. We had Sheridan come to our home where she spent time teaching us and answering all of our questions. I was immediately impressed with her knowledge, openess, and ability to listen. I could tell she was a real find and worth every penny!
After having our daughter, we knew just who to call when our little one was having some issues with latching. Sheridan to the rescue! She also have us great info & support over email.
Sheridan goes above and beyond to ensure you reach your breastfeeding goals and to lend a helpful hand through the tricky times. Also, she was extremely helpful providing me with the necessary documentation to get my insurance to cover much of the costs.

I had a wonderful experience with Sheridan! She encouraged and supported me when I needed her the most. I was thinking I would be able to breastfeed only for the first few months. But due to her support we are going strong at 6 months:) she bonded instantly with me, my mom and my baby. She taught us infant massage which we do everyday and the baby loves it.
Just an example of how dedicated she is — one day she came home and the baby kept crying and just would not latch. She did not charge us for her visit even though she was there for over an hour. She said she would come back another time.
I really appreciate her help and recommend her to all new mommas who need breastfeeding support. I hope to work with her again in the future.

If there were six stars, I’d give them without hesitation.
My breastfeeding journey started pretty rough. My little guy had a lip tie and breastfeeding was excruciatingly painful for me from the day he was born. Lucky for me, my doctor (Jan Rydfors) had recommended Sheridan when I was pregnant, and I had had her come in to teach my husband and I the lactation 101 class in our home. That class by the way was incredibly thorough and helpful, and the benefit of having it at home was having the chance to ask all the questions we would have been to afraid to ask in a group setting, and also getting to meet Sheridan.
As soon as our breastfeeding problems began, we didn’t hesitate to call her, and she became our guardian angel. From horribly cracked nipples, to a lip tie release, through weeks of triple feeding, pumping issues, foremilk/​hindmilk imbalance, allergies and heartbreak, Sheridan’s kind and gentle support saw us through it all.
This lady is truly a remarkable human being for going above and beyond the call of duty time and time again. I recall one visit when my baby would not stop crying, because he was colicky. I was home alone at the time and completely overwhelmed, and Sheridan went to the store for me to get me gripe water. She then helped me calm my baby boy down and even showed me how to massage his belly to get things moving in there. I cried tears of gratitude then, and that still remains in my mind as one of the most poignant acts of kindness that helped me through a really rough time as a first time Mom.
Sheridan isn’t just a lactation consultant. She will be your advocate, your cheerleader, your shoulder to cry on, and a true friend.
Thank you Sheridan for sticking with us when our pediatrician and other lactation consultants and pediatric nurses wouldn’t. I was committed to breastfeeding and you saw that and jumped on my bandwagon no questions asked. My baby is now six months and he is a pro at the boob and we are going strong, aiming for a year or beyond. Without you, we wouldn’t be here. From the bottom of our heart, thank you.

Just because breastfeeding is nature’s way of having you feed your baby doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt like @#$%^*!
But, with Sheridan, it doesn’t have to be!
She IS the baby whisperer — I’ve seen it happen in action! Sheridan is knowledgeable, empathetic, accomodating (think VIP treatment), VERY responsive, and FUNNY as heck which are all extremely important factors when you’re going out of your mind with barely any sleep.
I read all the Unilocal reviews and visited the lactation consultants’ websites before calling Sheridan and I’m glad I made the call as it helped me go from wanting to quit to now being FT bf’ing.
She will be the reason you can continue breastfeeding b/​c she’s got tips and tricks up her sleeves! I’ve texted her twice with panicky questions and she’s come through for me and helped me solve my problems.
In her bags of goodies, she’s always prepared and has something for you to help relieve and prevent the yucky things like plugged duct and mastitis from happening.
Call her — your boobs and babe (s) will thank you!

Sheridan is a wonderful person to work with. She is knowledgable, compassionate and fun. 5 stars is not high enough!
I met Sheridan through my OB. She teaches breastfeeding classes out of her office in Redwood City. Take this class! Bring your partner! Really! Her information was exactly what we needed. Her advice on what to have on hand was the best. I purchased all the supplies to make nursing smoother and more comfortable and it truly helped. You do not want to be gathering things after the baby comes.
When we got home from the hospital we had some issues. Sheridan got back to me quickly and came to our house within hours of my email.
Her tips and recommendations brought immediate relief. Unfortunately, my situation was not resolved quickly or easily. After 2 visits, coordinating with my OB for a prescription and multiple follow up calls offering advice and support, I am positive that Sheridan saved my ability to breastfeed.
Without her knowledge, my determination would not have been enough. Do not hesitate to call her if you need any support with breastfeeding.

I am so grateful for Sheridan. I called her almost a year ago, after a failed session with someone else (I wish I knew about Sheridan at that time!). I was so upset, but she stayed real and present and compassionate, talking me through my next steps for twenty minutes straight. After this, I asked her how I could pay her, and she refused to accept payment! At that moment, to feel understood and taken care of was everything to me. I could never forget this. I followed Sheridan’s recommendations, and my stress with breastfeeding was cut in half immediately.
Please, girlfriend, do not hesitate. Call her. You will rarely find a person as good as she is. She truly is a rare find, in so many ways.

Sheridan came to see me back in January when I was pretty sure breastfeeding was slowly draining my will to live. Seriously, I was sitting on the couch crying my eyes out because breastfeeding was so painful. As a new mom, I haven’t had much time, hence the belated review. I couldn’t have asked for someone more warm, caring, compassionate and helpful. Bedside manner was amazing and she helped me out so much with a better latch and more ergonomic feeding to help all my soreness. Plus, she’s quick to answer additional questions if you have them. I wish I could give her more than 5 stars. Trouble breastfeeding? Give her a call! :)

Sheridan came to see us in San Jose! The moment we met her we felt right at home, and finally had some questions answered. It was so nice to have her visit instead of leaving our home to consult at the hospital, where we got mixed messages and formula pushed on us.

When I looked for a breastfeeding class in the area prior to my daughter being born, I chose Sheridan and BabySips based on the positive Unilocal reviews. I feel compelled to add my own review now, because Sheridan exceeded all my expectations, both in the breastfeeding class and in her support as a lactation consultant after the baby was born.
Sheridan is extremely knowledgeable, patient, kind, supportive, and fun. I had a number of nursing difficulties and Sheridan offered suggestions and support, as well as compassion and empathy. I ended up having to supplement with formula, which was a very difficult thing for me to come to terms with emotionally. While continuing to offer suggestions about how to increase my milk supply, Sheridan was also supportive of the formula use, reminding me that feeding the baby was the most important thing, and we could continue to work on milk production parallel to feeding the baby formula. In every interaction with her I felt support for what I was doing, and help in the areas I was struggling, both physically and emotionally.
I highly recommend Sheridan without any reservations and know she will be the first person on my support team should I have another child in the future.
On my behalf, the husband:
I attended Sheridan’s class and while I was the only husband, I rather enjoyed it. To all you boys out there, trust me, join your wife for this class. It is a learning experience and will come in handy when you brainstorm with your wife on any feeding issues your child will run into. It will save you a lot of frustration and avoid any feeding misshaps!
Sheridan made me feel welcome in class and helped me understand things from my perspective as I had a lot of questions based on readings and general curiosity/​apprehensiveness about the whole baby feeding situation. My bottle feeding skills are stellar, with a stamp of approval from our baby in the form of dirty diapers.

My Husband and I had a one on one Breast Feeding preparation class with Sheridan last night and we loved her.
I’m due in 4 weeks and didn’t think there was much I didn’t know at this point, but she taught us a LOT about Breast feeding.
I’m feeling so much more comfortable now, and I know that if I have any issues I can call her and she will come to the hospital or to our home. Which puts me even more at ease.

It almost makes me emotional to write this review… After six weeks of painful breastfeeding and multiple sub-​par lactation consultants, I found Sheridan. From our first contact, she has been nothing short of AMAZING.
She responded to my first email within hours with compassion and an eagerness to help. The next day she came to my house and generously spent her time with me treating my issues with tender care and super practical tips. The things she taught me completely revolutionized the way I fed my daughter. She really knows her stuff and explained things in ways I’d never heard before. But, more importantly, Sheridan was so kind and helpful during my most vulnerable time. She also was amazing with my baby, who smiled over and over again during our time together.
After her visit, she kept in frequent contact to see how I was doing. If ever I had a question, she would answer it within hours. When I thought I might come down with mastitis after a horrible plugged duct, she drove 45 minutes on a Saturday night (!) to give me some herbs, which totally healed me.
She has gone above and beyond at every occasion and I honestly don’t know where I would be without her knowledge, support and encouragement. I think she may be one of the most caring people I have ever met. She saved my breastfeeding experience. Sheridan is a rare gem and I can’t recommend her highly enough.

I’m a first time mom so I knew nothing about breastfeeding. The first few days were going well and then when I got home it all went downhill with pain involved and a crying unconsolable baby. My husband I were losing our minds and knew we needed help real bad.
I contacted Sheridan and she was able to come see me on very short notice. She came to my house totally prepared with a small suitcase of supplies. She was so nice, calming, and supportive. She put me at ease right away. Sheridan is a total professional having the right supplies, asking permission before doing anything like touching your baby or giving you a breast exam. She has all these great documents on breastfeeding that she e-​mails you so that you have a record of everything you talked about along with Sheridan’s recommendations for your breastfeeding concerns. She was very informative and it was more than I expected out of a lactation consultant.
By the end of the session I was able to feed my baby without much pain (keep in mind I was still healing) and felt more confidant about breastfeeding.
Would recommend her to anyone with lactation questions in a heartbeat!

This review is way, way, way overdue.
After a very, very difficult breastfeeding experience with our first child (and that was WITH the help of a «world-​renowned» lactation consultant), my wife and I were looking for support VERY soon after our second was born. In the past, we tried group settings and scheduled help outside the home, but that just was not enough when we were having trouble late at night or at awkward times.
We decided to give Baby Sips a try and scheduled a consultation. Sheridan was able to see us on very short notice and was so amazingly knowledgeable, sweet, and considerate (e.g., asking before touching you, getting on your bed, etc.), that we were just blown away. We were set on the right path with only a few consultations. It made all the difference that we were able to get help in our own home, in the exact places we would be doing the feedings. One of the first things that really struck me after meeting Sheridan was how warm and funny she was. She has an amazing personality that just cuts through the stress of breastfeeding. She was always available over the phone and asking questions (even when she was on personal vacation, which she deserves a thousand times over) over email were answered SUPER promptly.
We literally could not have come as far as we did without her help, and we are forever grateful for that. You would have to be insane not to meet with her at least once. After that, you’ll be hooked :).
