Established in 2012.

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore is a volunteer-​driven home improvement store that accepts and resells new and gently used building materials, appliances and furniture to the general public at a fraction of their normal retail price. All proceeds go to Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco to fund the construction of homes in San Francisco, Marin and the Peninsula.

Meet the Manager

Jaimi W.

Manager

Jaimi W. is the manager of the Habitat Greater SF ReStore in San Carlos. She brings with her seven and a half years of Habitat for Humanity experience and a successful track record of opening ReStores throughout the Western United States. Before joining Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco, Jaimi worked overseas in Mexico, Chile and El Salvador in development and English language instruction as well as two years within public relations. Jaimi first got involved with Habitat by working on a build in El Salvador where she was a Peace Corps volunteer. When not at ReStore, Jaimi spends her time gardening, hiking and playing with her dog.

Great items for sale, helps to keep things out of landfill. Not to mention a great cause and helps needy people.
Unfortunately, most of the men employees at the San Carlos store are rude, unprofessional, and in a desperate need of a PR lesson.
I’ve patronized the San Carlos store numerous occasions. Now that will stop.

We had several pieces to donate. Reviewed with pics. They delayed pickup twice until we were at last day allowed in apt, 4:30 pm. They didn’t want one of the pieces. I understand, it is distressed from years w us. However, they refused to bring it out of apt for us. Verbatim (repeatedly, almost like a robot? Highly scripted): ‘we only do things that are best for humanity for habitat and our store.’ Two big guys standing there unwilling to help.
If they had come when scheduled (or rescheduled and rescheduled) and we’d known in time, it wouldn’t have been a problem to get our movers to move the piece. Once we were in that situation bc of them, it is the right thing to do to help us. Be warned.

Way too expensive. I was in there the other day and was interested in an outdoor dining set. It was $ 200. Nothing special. Glass table and 4 chairs. I checked Walmart’s website and found a very similar set with pretty red pillows. Brand new for the same price: $ 199 and they delivered to my house for free. The couches were very expensive too, considering they are used. There are no bargains here.

I’ve been to several habitat for humanity restores in the Bay Area. So far, this one is the best for the great deals. I feel like I need to check out this place at least once a month because the furniture liquidates pretty fast here. The most important thing is that they put different stuff on the daily sales randomly. I was lucky once to get a gorgeous chair for $ 5, which was $ 75 before the sale. Majority of the products here are in good quality and the volunteered staff are very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this place if you like something cheap and non-​IKEA styles.

Amazing deals! Just amazing! You can buy almost everything here for your house for a decent price. Some people are complaining that prices raised but so did the average quality of their merchandise. The more expensive items are antiques and they would cost you much more at any antique store. Not only you can buy affordable furniture and appliances but also find real treasures that would cost you a fortune elsewhere.
And don’t get me started about the staff! People at this store are so nice and helpful especially taking in consideration that most of them are volunteers.
Returning policies, in my opinion, are very fair. You can return appliances and electronics working 30 days if they don’t work.
Once again, great store! Not only will you not regret coming here, you wouldn’t want to leave it!

Some of the stuff they get in is okay, and occassionally you can find deals but there is also a lot of really not great stuff. The lighting department is good, but the res not so much. Low rating because the returns policy is ridiculous. Because they’ve had «security issues,» they cannot cancel a sale ON THINGS NOT PICKED UP by phone. It is still there! One has to go into the store – for me that will waste a lot if time and gas. Plus they will charge you 10% restocking fee. There are better options (The Discovery Store, Leftovers, etc). I discourage anyone from buying any of their bigger ticket items. I will tell my friends. Very bad business practice.

The store looks great, so many super helpful volunteers, and always such amazing stuff. I pretty much only shop here for anything household related! Please open the store on Sunday’s so I can shop more.

Have purchased two sets of bedroom furniture from the ReStore and have been very pleased both times. Prices were fair and reasonable — and the staff support was fantastic. For my second bedroom set — I was looking for a particular style that wasn’t in the store at the time. The staff took down my request and reached out to me when they thought they had a match in stock (turns out they did). Will return for sure.

Prices are INSANE. A Trivial Pursuit box of extra questions (no board or pieces): $ 14. Champagne glasses: $ 25 each. A bag of cheap wicker napkin rings: $ 15. A half-​empty box of dishwasher tablets: $ 3. Maybe if you’re looking for home-​building stuff, it’s better, but for your average thrift-​store items, no way.

This place is FANTASTIC! Where do I begin? How about the deals…8′ Andersen window, new in the box, $ 35.00. I immediately canceled my order with my contractor for the same window for $ 1600, (glad I did it in time). The staff is fantastic. Paid employees, volunteers, it does not matter, they are all great! Nate (aka Thor or Captain America), Mike, and Jamie are great. Tony in electric is one of the nicest and most knowledgeable AND helpful people around. There are a lot of others who deserve high praise also, but I forgot their names. This is a do good place all around. Proceeds go to Habitat for Humanity building houses for low income folks. You can also donate your (not junk) items here. You cannot go wrong here. Toilets, refrigerators, microwaves, lighting, tools, windows, windows and more windows, interior and exterior doors, kitchen cabinets, furniture, the list goes on. They also get random donations like surfboards, wind surfboards, canoes, Thule roof racks, etc. I check in about once per week because they are THAT good. Yep, they are as good as it gets — 5 STARS for sure!

THIS IS A RAD STORE!
Home improvement meets thrift store: appliances, furniture, tools, lights, plumbing… the list goes on. The prices are very reasonable and great if you are on a budget. The volunteers were so friendly, knowledgeable, and readily available if you have questions. It’s a big store with lots to look at so make sure you have at least 1 hour to look around. I will definitely be back!

I am a FAN!
I went this weekend and it was AWESOME! It’s a pretty big store with lots of parking. They had lots of furniture pieces, appliances, and things for home improvement. I ended up buying some furniture at a really great deal. Everything looked very clean and impressive.
I will go again– I just need to remember the days they are open Wed-​Sat. Staff is VERY helpful!

I have been visiting this place almost weekly and purchased quite a few items. It’s good place to shop for things and feel good about helping a cause. Even with that attitude, I am finding this place getting a little weirder. I often look at old tools and found some good bargains. Lately, I am surprised to see most things marked up to almost close to retail or ebay prices. A crappy block plane was $ 16 and a steel square $ 30? A couple of old drill bits were almost the same price as Home Depot!. Not sure what is up with these inflated prices.
I suspect this to be the work of some new person who thinks this merchandise as collectible. That is too bad. I am going to have to stop wasting gas to visit them now.

Volunteered here for a bit. Everyone is wonderful, and friendly. Simply smiles all around. The Staff and Volunteers are there to help. Just keep in mind that as it is a volunteer run store, some staff are much more knowledgeable while others may have just joined recently. No big deal, as everyone will help to the best of their ability.
The prices are great, and the inventory seems to always be refreshing. Definitely a great place to check out for getting some nice fixtures. Reminds me of a Home Depot, albeit smaller. Worth your time for sure, and you help a great cause. Can’t go wrong.

This place is totally awesome! Big, open floor plan, ridiculously good prices and more home goods (think: furnishings and construction projects) than one person could ever come up with ideas for. Plus from what I understand, profits go to Habitat for Humanity for their housing projects. The staff and volunteers are so friendly and there’s always a rotating inventory to check out. Highly recommended!

This is an awesome addition to the community. This well lit restore is nice, airy and clean. They accept new or gently used building materials, appliances, and furniture. These items help raise funds to build homes on the Peninsula, Marin, and San Francisco. Clear clutter and help a great cause.
