I was lucky to work with Mario. I had a small project to build a table top. I showed him the photos that can explain my idea. He brought me to wood yard and pick very nice redwood that perfectly fits my need. He even cut the woods into right size. He is awesome and highly recommended.

I love coming here, they have a great variety of stuff, including some hard-​to-​find trims and siding. The customer service is the best in town! Plus they have free kindling and free sawdust!

Great service still exists! I had the fortunate experience of working with Alberto who is mentioned in other reviews here. The service provided by him was absolutely incredible.
I decided to build a small raised deck for our dog, not a large project at all, about 2′ by 2′ about a foot off the ground with a ramp so definitely not a large revenue job for them but he went way beyond what I expected.
I had sketched a picture of the project and he took the time to go over the best type of wood, the dimensions of each piece and the total amount of lumber needed. We then proceeded to the lumberyard area to look at a couple of types of wood at various price points and the differences in quality. Once I picked the wood, we went back to the sales office to detail the exact cost and he also helped me pick out the right screws for the job.
On top of that Alberto even cut the wood to the specifications I needed — saved me some work and sawdust at home.
I’m just a regular DIY guy, no contractors license but he gave us a small discount anyways.
I must say I cannot recall a better experience anywhere in recent memory. Alberto spent about 30 mins. in all with me for a small project that costed $ 69 — still can’t believe he spent all that time with me — TOO GOOD!

We are wainscoting the bathroom and custom framing a mirror so I needed help figuring out all the trim pieces to get. Tim helped me and was very patient with all my questions and indecisiveness. He got me everything I needed a good price. I am glad I went here vs the big box stores.

I only needed one piece of wood to replace a damaged fence post and Alberto treated me to excellent service! He showed me options, gave me additional info, measured, made the cuts I needed all with a smile. I noticed the other employees doing the same with other customers. That $ 11 was well spent and I’ll be back with both big and small purchases in the future.

Excellent quality wood at reasonable prices with great customer service. The staff is friendly. They have every type of wood I’ve ever needed. Can’t go wrong!

After visiting several Home Depot’s (because each carries different dimensions of redwood) and 2 other lumber yards, who by the way would NOT help me. My last stop was at OK Lumber before giving up. Walking in and seeing nothing but testosterone; as the staff and customers were all male, I was a bit intimidated. I was promptly told I’d be helped by someone right away and sure enough a fantastic gentleman by the name of John asked what I needed and walked me around the yard showing me different pieces that might work. I did require a custom cut but John went to bat for me with his manager and promised he’d do the cutting himself and have it to me within 2 days. Homerun! — It was ready the next morning and he did an awesome job. All the staff made me feel comfortable and were courteous and professional throughout the entire experience.

OK lumber is more than OK… there great! I have been there several times and didn’t take the time to write a review but I am now. There prices are higher because they have quality wood. You can’t compare these guys to Home Depot prices because they don’t have wood that is twisted or you have to sort through a stack of 100 pieces of lumber to find 5 good boards. I went there to build some shutters for my front windows. The lumber I needed was expensive but when I told Alberto what sizes I was going to actually use he directed me to an area where the lumber was cut from other jobs/​orders and we found everything I needed. I got the lumber for a fraction of the cost, had to do minimal cutting and everyone won. I agree with the previous comment of tell them what you are doing on your project and don’t be ashamed to ask for advice… remember as a home owner you don’t do this stuff everyday but they do.

This is the place that I buy my lumber to replace the redwood that has been rotting in my drive way. The employee even suggested that I buy «rough-​cut» lumber and mill it myself. This was a GREAT suggestion !
I will always buy my lumber here from now on.

Come here if you like being shamelessly gouged. $ 3.40 per foot for select heart redwood 2×6? The current going rate is $ 2.40. All of their lumber prices are far too high when compared to Pine Cone Lumber or Big Creek over in Half Moon Bay. Slow service, snide attitudes, ripping off established local contractors and lazy yard workers who refuse to help load your trucks is what you’ll find at this unorganized dump. Maybe I just had an inept or corrupt estimator bidding on my lumber package, but I saved almost 35% by taking my business elsewhere.

Frankly, all the people that are giving OK lumber 5 stars are not doing their homework. While they have a decent selection and will hold your hand as you walk around the yard, there are many other lumber yards in the vicinity with the same quality wood that sell for 30−40% less than OK (and I’m NOT talking Home Depot). I recently priced up $ 2100 of select heart redwood fencing material at ok lumber, which I can get for $ 1300 just up the road in Belmont. Same grade/​same lengths, everything the same! Please do your research before Unilocaling in your post coital fog– all the good reviews made me visit this place first, and I was shocked at the prices.

I purchased a bunch of redwood and assorted hardware here for my daughter’s elementary school. We built two huge, gorgeous redwood vegetable planting boxes. The nice guys at OK helped me interpret the plans, find the right bolts and washers, and made sure the wood would last for decades. Perfect help at a great price.

So we are doing a huge re-​model in Hillsborough and right now we are at the kitchen part Julie (designer) had asked me to find a reclaimed piece of wood at one of our local lumber yards… I googled lumber yards and this place came up as top 4. It was perfect because, it is less than a mile away from my work (could have walked). I decided to give them a call after trying to call other ones in the area and they either didn’t answer or just didn’t care (not cool). When I called I spoke to Carlos and explained what I needed and he said «yeah we definitly have stuff like that, it’s more of an artistic type of thing and you might want to come down and check it out»…I let him know I would be down in about an hour… hour goes by and I head to OK Lumber and the customer service in here was unbelievable. It was a ridiculously hot day and that didn’t matter for them… they still smiled and several people greeted me (maybe they just aren’t used to seeing girls ;)” anyways… I was greeted by Sparky and had explained to him what I needed and Carlos jumped right in and let me know I had spoken to him… Sparky not only helped me find the wood but was kind enough to shave off 4 inches of the side for me to fit the 70 inches needed… he then helped me place it in my car. Sparky had amazing customer service and should be awarded or at least given a nice raise or bonus. I give this company an overall 11 out 10… it is hard to come accross kind people these days and these guys really knew what they were doing, how to treat people and the customer service was just on point! Thank you OK Lumber… and thank you to Carlos and Sparky!!! I will be back!

Was blown away by the level of customer service, pricing and quality of products that OK Lumber offers. These guys care about their reputation and it shows – the friendliest lumber yard on the Peninsula. (Heck friendliness business of any kind on the Peninsula).
I am a home owner and was putting in a red wood pergola and called literally 9 different lumber yards and found OK Lumber to have the best quality, pricing and customer service. The lumber quality was top notch. During my initial visit, I was given a tour of the yard to view the materials I would be using. I was surprised to find that all lumber is covered to minimize sun exposure to ensure you get the best looking lumber. Other lumber yards I visited didn’t bother covering their lumber. To be fair, i didn’t visit all 9 lumber yards as some of the initial phone conversations and pricing steered me away from these yards so I can’t speak to how they care for their product.
I made a mistake on my order and was able to swap out for the item I needed without hassle. This is a business I enjoy spending my hard earned money at cause I totally support what OK Lumber stands for and how they conduct their business. Its how I would want my business to be ran if I own a business.
For my order, I was assisted with Tim T. the rock star of customer service reps at OK Lumber. He’s right there with the best of Nordstroms customer service/​cashiers reps.
Definitely a lumber yard for your lumber and construction hardware needs.

Needed some ¹⁄₈ thin pieces of wood to fix a door jamb. The guy at the counter said he didn’t have anything that size for sale. Then he says «follow me». He shows me a pile of strips that had been shaved off of larger pieces before they were sold. «Perfect», I said. «Take whatever you need».
Next time I’m starting a project, OK Lumber will be my first stop. Great CUSTOMER service.

In short I really like OK Lumber. This is real lumber yard where the employees know a hell of lot more about wood than I do. I had a project that required some very odd sized strips of redwood. Not a problem they had them custom cut and waiting for me the next day.

I think the most telling compliment I can give OK lumber is that I live in Sunnyvale and I drive to OK Lumber in San Carlos whenever I’m doing a ‘major’ home improvement project. They carry everything you need to do a project. While their tools, material, etc. are professional grade (many of the contractors I know do purchase here) they are always more than willing to help out a ‘lowly’ DIY-​er like myself.

Best selection of lumber on the Peninsula. Aside from standard lumber selection that you’ll find at big box stores, OK has a great selection of redwood products including great looking hand split cedar and redwood grapestake.
The staff are on their game, quick to help and are always ready with a quick joke. Prices are par for the course.

This place is amazing. Customer service is off the charts.
First, my wife and I went in with just an idea of what we wanted to build. Alberto had the patience to not only listen and answer our dumb questions, but also to help design exactly what we wanted to build. He made sure we understood everything without being patronizing or having that weird «overly friendly» vibe. When I asked «do I need to buy a power saw for this?», he said «Yeah, but you can just borrow mine.» (His, not the company’s: he repeated this offer later!)
As he was working up an estimate, some have senile guy rammed into our car. Another employer stopped the guy from running off and then ran in to find out whose care it was. I went to check it out and a minute later Alberto was out taking pictures of everything and documenting the crash. When he left the scene he went in to call the San Carlos police for us.
After we finished the whole insurance bit, we went inside and Alberto not only had our estimate ready, but also a hand-​written report of what he saw, so that we can use it with the insurance company.
I don’t know how OK lumber compares to others in terms of prices, but I’ll probably never find out — I’m a loyal customer from here on out.

Visiting Home Depot is good for the male soul. Go in, browse, choose the stuff you think you need, bring most of it back later. Nobody looking down on you or making you feel anything but the near professional contractor you know you are.
Lumber yards are different. They know you are an ignoramus as soon as you walk in the door and often seem to sneer at that ignorance. They’re intimidating!
But OK Lumber is different — REALLY friendly people will give you the advice you need without making you feel small and help you to buy what you need for your project. Chances are you’ll get the right stuff and won’t need to return it later either!
