Straightforward and no bullshit. Always discuss prices upfront, and no BS on «It’s going to cost $X just to look». And when they say they’ll do the work, they do the work — and it continues to work, not some fly-​by-​night stuff.
Cannot recommend Brian and the whole establishment enough!

Well after getting my transmission done by Brian it went out again and when he told me I have 1 year warranty on my transmission all of a sudden he does not want to take my car back and fix it I feel scammed and cheated and 4,500 $ out and that does not include tow trucks on getting my car to his shop

I had issues with my transmission and my brakes. I brought my car in explain what was the issues were and Brian was very informativein explaining my options. Luckily my transmission was fixed without major cost and he replace my warped rotors and pads and now my car is running great. He is honest businessman and he knows his stuff! I will be bringing my cars back to him. My old auto repair guy would change parts with functional parts but not the proper ones, thus the warped rotors… I’d give Brian and his guys 10 stars if I could. They get the work done and the prices are more than fair in my opinion.

Brian did good work and knows his stuff. However, he took a really long time to do it, and offered a rental car on him, but I ended up paying for the rental car anyways. It was a large job, and the extra $ 100 didn’t kill me, I just wish it was included in the orginal quote he gave me.

Again, back to Wise. Oil leak that could have been disastrous. Brian fixed me right up and for a shockingly low price! I live in SF but I’ll always bring my car down to San Carlos!

In 2007, they replaced 6 spark plugs, 1 gasket, and an oxygen sensor for $ 500. Later on, I took the car to Mazda dealer because problem persisted, and they said those spark plugs were manufacture’s originals which all have a yellow line marked by Mazda.

Was recommended by Nielsen Automotive, a trusted repair shop in San Carlos, to John Wise Transmission. Had called AAMACO Santa Clara (recommended by a friend) & AAMACO Sunnyvale for worst case ballpark quotes: Sunnyvale refused to quote.
When we spoke to Wise Transmission, Brian asked intelligent questions. To our benefit, he’s extremely familiar with a Jeep Grand Cherokee, he has one! As predicted the problem was a with a sensor. There were other related problems, which they fixed, at a reasonable price.
Wise Transmission is a perfect example of buying services from a local shop: they care, the car was ready when stated, there prices are decent, and, in the long run, you’re not paying for tons of ads that you really don’t want to hear.

Five stars for Brian the owner of John Wise Transmission. I have been taking my cars to Wise for years and they are as honest and trustworthy as the day is long.
What I like the most about Brian is that there is no BS. If the car needs fixing, he will do a great job. If the symptons are something that needs watching or is normal for the car’s age, it will send you on your way without charging an arm or a leg or doing some repair that is not necessary. He treats his clientele with honesty and integrity.
In addition to transmissions, Brian can do most any type of repairs and maintenance such as tune-​ups, water pumps, hoses, head gaskets, complete rebuilds, etc.
This is the best auto repair shop in San Carlos.

I was experiencing some overheating on my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee last week and took my car over to this shop based on a recommendation I had received from a friend of mine. Last year, I had spent about $ 2K getting a new radiator, thermostat, hosing, etc. at a different shop and was quite upset this problem seemed to be resurfacing.
Brian took his time and properly diagnosed the problem and was able to fix it for a whopping $ 150! A great deal. Charged me just an hour for labor. I am extremely pleased by the work he did here and highly recommend this shop. Will be going here for all my car problems going forward.

Brian, at Wise Transmissions, knows his stuff. I had been experiencing intermittent but alarming issues with my 2003 VW New Beetle convertible. The Dealer was going to charge me $ 160 just to diagnose the problem. Many transmission shops will not even look at a Beetle 6-​speed automatic tranny. I then found Wise Transmissions via Unilocal. Mike and Brian were very friendly over the phone and their professional demeanor helped to feel like I was in good hands. I later found that I was.
After they took the bug on a serious test drive, they came back with a report that verified all I had been experiencing with some very rough shifting — particularly when the car was warmed-​up. They found some interior leakage in the transmission valve body (not covered by the VW extended warrantee), but since they had seen a number of these issues, they had devised a fairly-​priced solution.
Wise Transmissions actually have partnered with a shop in SJ that bores new valves and seals the leaks and seriously bench-​tests the reconditioned unit. All that means to you is that rebuilding is less expensive than replacing. Once back at the Wise Transmission, San Carlos location, they road tested at least two more times before they called me for the pick up. To top it off, I’d printed the $ 100-​OFF coupon from their website and got the discount without asking.
All this in about two days. Driving home with the rebuilt valve body was bliss. Although the San Carlos building could use a new coat of paint, these guys were knowledgable and provided me with a very positive customer experience.

I chose Wise Tranmission partly based on proximity to work, and partly due to good commentary on Unilocal.My experience after picking up the phone only improved my impression as things got underway. Throrough explanation of options, work involved, guarantees and just basic friendly advice and conversation. They fixed my transmission within the time agreed, to the price agreed, keeping me updated via phone calls as either parts rolled in or progress was being made. Overall a very satisfying experience. Thanks Brian and Mike. And my truck is happily humming along now.

I used to deliver Mopar parts to this shop and since day one, i have got a good vibe about them. Brian is the shop manager and he does a wonderful job of making the customer feel comfortable. I have seen the employees in this shop working on the cars and they take pride in fixing vehicles. They are a family driven company and they are all around good guys. From what i have heard from the customers themselves, they have great prices as well. Keep up the good work guys!!!

I have been bringing my car for the last 4 – 5 years and Brian does an excellent job and his prices were very reasonable. But, there is a new guy who is at the front office, who is in-​charge now (writes the estimates) and lacks the basic courtesy of how to deal with customers — particularly with one who has been loyal for so long. He doesn’t even take the time to talk with you (for more than 15 seconds) on the phone trying to explain the problem — always says customers are waiting and has to go, and I know there is no one waiting! Sorry Brian, you may have lost a customer unless you take care of your customers, and your service is back to as it used to be.

I don’t think that it’s a coincidence that I’ve been bringing my Subaru to Brian for routine service for years, and that I’m approaching 200,000 miles on the original transmission and it’s still pulls and sounds like a new transmission. He doesn’t suck the oil out and change it like a lot of other places do; he drops the pan, changes the filters and cleans out the guck that settles at the bottom. You can’t get that stuff out without pulling the pan off. He’s also repaired my 4WD’s — automatic locking hubs; custom conversions — for all things transmission you can trust that Brian and his team will take care of it better and for less $$$ than the dealer!
(Oh yeah — I forgot to mention, he’s also repaired/​replaced brakes, belt tensioners, oil leaks — I should say for all things transmission and more…)

Truly professionals at what they do. They have worked on 3 of my cars. 98 Camaro rebuilt differential, 04 GMC front bearing, transfer case rebuild. Will continue to go here for life.

Honesty and quality are two things you do not have to worry about bringing vehicles here. They will look at anything I need them to and the price is always fair.

Brian and his team at Wise automotive is 100% top notch. I would fully recommend these folks for everything from basic preventative maintenance to major repair jobs to full blown race applications. I trust them with my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2006 Dodge Viper, and 1973 Datsun 240z — they have the ability and willingness to work on all kinds of vehicles. Very trustworthy and honest folks that will not do unnecessary work and will give you straight info about what your car needs and what it will cost. I’m not sure about the somewhat negative posts, I’ve never found that to be the case.

I used this shop to do some suspension work on my 97 mustang and was pleased with Briana work, however when I brought my 06 350z in for a sway bar install, what I thought was a great job turned into a pain in my neck. Now that I am taking all the aftermarket parts off my car to sell it, I was only given about half of the stock stuff the car rolled in there with when I specifically asked for them to save the original parts. Now I’m on a hunt to find these parts before I sell my car…
Long story short, i think attention to detail isn’t this shops strong suit.

Had a good experience. They were honest and saved me money. Will continue to take my car to them.

I attempted to get a diagnosis from I guess, «John» but couldn’t get past his awful attitude enough for him to even look at my car. Rotten customer experience from a cranky man who apparently has enough business so they he doesn’t have to be polite to new customers. Wish I could comment on his work. It might be worthy but darn if I couldn’t get the time of day from the guy.
