Pico Veterinary Clinic

I can’t say enough good things about this practice. The vets go above and beyond for your pet. Our dog had to have emergency surgery for bloat and the vets stayed 4 hours after closing to perform the successful surgery, called us with an update at 11pm and even offered us to come down and see our dog at close to midnight. Our dog was in their care for 3 more days to recover and we received daily calls as well as a call the next day after she was released. I can’t say enough about this practice.

I just had my first visit here. I called this morning and got an appointment right away which was great. The staff and tech are really nice and professional. We didn’t wait long at all and the doctor was very thorough and knowledgeable as well as sweet to my old baby girl! He sent us home with meds and is doing some testing too. They are more than reasonable with their charges also. Found a good vet!

Just left our first visit and we are SO HAPPY! Our dog is quite the handful with a long list of allergies and what seems to be a never ending ear infection. Dr Liaghat took the time to get to know Rosko and really listened to his history to come up with a plan to make our guy feel better! The other staff members were amazing as well. Great customer service and really friendly. Definitely lifted a huge amount of stress and worry off my shoulders. We are so happy we found a vet that not only we love, but Rosko loves too!

Dr. Zand was fantastic and now the two brothers that have taken on the business are just as great! They truly care about your animals and they have a lot of experience. We trust them with our two dogs, both under 10 lbs, who get their teeth cleanings and shots regularly here. Finding the right vet is scary when you have small older dogs but we trust Pico veterinary clinic, they aren’t just out for your money.

Very impressed by the service and care offered for my furry kids. Love that the vet took the time to listen to my concerns with patience and didn’t rush me out of the clinic. Have had one dog already receive tratment here and was very happy with how quickly he recovered from his eye injury. Ask about their annual pet plans! I’ve purchased one year of coverage for each of my pets.

After many years with another local Vet, we decided to try Pico Vet Clinic with our new rescue, Barley. We LOVE everything about this group of people! The doctor was so personable and spent time with Barley and us to discuss things. We got a follow up call the next day, which was very appreciated! We are so happy and feel comfortable with the doctor and staff. So glad we decided to try them and would recommend them to everyone. We are making them «our» go to for Barley and his care!

Dr. Liaghat is one of the most knowledgable veterinarians I have ever taken my dog to. Him and his staff are extremely caring and show the upmost genuine love for my Argos. I wouldn’t trust anyone else treating my fur baby. Although I have moved out of the area I still make sure to make the drive to get veterinary care I can trust! I would never comprise the quality of care for my dog, so ensure to take him to Pico Veterinary Clinic.

I have had many animals through the years and have gone to very many Veterinarians. I’ve also gone to quite a few veterinarians located in San Clemente. I found this gem of a place when I got my hairless cat, Boris. They were wonderful on the phone. I had quite a few questions and they answered them all very knowledgeably. I had him neutered here. They called to let me know how everything was going. When I went to pick him up within a few hours of his surgery the doctor was cuddling him up at the front desk. I have NEVER seen that before. I called them yesterday for a slight emergency and they had me come in right away. What a nice find! I’m bringing my dog in next. These are people who really care about animals!!!

This is where we take our kittens, Margaret and Zafón, and everyone, from the staff at the front desk to the veterinarians, have been thoughtful and sweet. We’re new pet owners and they patiently answered all our questions and followed up with a phone call after the kittens received vaccines. We’ve never had to wait too long and it’s easy to get an appointment. Highly recommend Pico Veterinary Clinic.

My wife called them about a deep cleaning on our dogs teeth. Surprisingly they were cheaper than the surrounding places. I took our dog in and Chris behind the counter was a very nice guy. I filled out all the necessary paperwork. In no time the vet called us in to look at her teeth.
Several hours later I was called to pick up our dog. Even with using Anastasia, she looked surprisingly well.
I would definitely use Pico Vet again!

Sooner or later, age catches up with all living beings and there’s nothing we can do about it except to offer a comfortable ending to the next transition of life. Rest in peace, NIas. You were the friendliest, most slobbery dog I ever knew. You never attacked anybody being the gentle giant of the dog you were. You taught me a lot about unconditional love and accepting everybody, even CATS as animal friends. Dogs like you are very hard to come by. You will be missed.
Before retiring, Dr. Zand was very knowledgable, professional, and a experienced veterinarian. If you’re ever in the very unfortunate and heartbreaking event of having to put your animal to rest, I would say you should consider going to him. He would’ve exhausted every effort in his years of knowledge to make sure your animal has the best chance of recovery. He will be missed as a vet.

It was sad to see Dr. Zand retire last month (April 2015). But his retirement is well earned! He had been our Vet for 20+ years. He passed the torch to a couple of Veterinarians who are brothers. We happened to need them ASAP with the care of our cat. Dr. Amir Liaghat is very personable and kind with treating Baby with a dental cleaning and additional care with him getting an upper respiratory infection the next week. They discounted the dental cleaning care cost and extra cost for additional care. Chris, the front office person and Vet assistant, is very nice too. They both made follow up calls to see how Baby was recovering and went the extra miles to make sure he was feeling better and recovering well. Super nice experience with the succession transition of Dr. Zand’s practice.

I have been going to Pico Veterinary Clinic for 12 years for care of my cat and 2 dogs. In fact, I drive an hour and a half from San Diego for our appointments! We have gone through everything with Dr. Ariazand, including annual shots, spaying/​neutering, dental care, ear/​eye infections and much more. Dr. Ariazand is very knowledgable and caring and I cannot think of anywhere better I would be willing to take our pets for care! If you are looking for quality, compassionate care, Pico Vet is the place! I will never take our animals anywhere else!

My friend had been taking her pets to Dr. Zand for years and she recommended him to me when I was in search of a vet. Living in San Diego, I wasn’t too keen on making the 30 – 45 minute drive to San Clemente, but she said he was worth it. She was absolutely correct.
From the front desk staff to Dr. Zand himself, our experience was so pleasant and they treated our dog like she was their own. My dog, Dixie, had been fussing with her ear for a few days and it seemed to really bother her. I explained her symptoms to Dr. Zand and he suspected she might have a foxtail in her ear. After a little exploring, turns out he was right! He knew before he had even examined her! It felt good to know he was so experienced and knowledgeable. He had the foxtail out in no time and Dixie was as good as new the next day!
Since then, we’ve been back a few times for routine stuff and each visit is as pleasant as the last. Nice, clean office with plenty of parking. Bonus: right next to a Subway if you need to grab lunch while you wait! Chris (front desk) is so nice and always very helpful. I definitely recommend Dr. Zand to anyone who wants a loving, safe, caring environment for their pets. Dixie loves you guys!

I have been a loyal customer for nearly ten years… and I am here to tell you how Dr Zand Is Truly the Best! Him and his wife are always very friendly when I go in and I genuinely feel comfortable with them when I am there… He listens to all of my concerns and is very informative with sharing his knowledge and allaying any concerns I have with my Dog.
I have been taking my Dog to him since he was a puppy and now 9 years later were still here! I live in San Diego and drive all the way to him because its worth it! He is Honest and very diligent with my dog.
What is the most important is that I TRUST Dr. Zand and I would never take my dog anywhere else. He never over charges and never suggests procedures or labs that are unnecessary. When I was out of town my parents took my dog to a closer vet since he kept having accident in the house and the meds given to him ended up being ineffective, I returned and took him to Dr. Zand and he prescribed the correct medication and my baby was better with in days…
He is a good doctor, you WILL NOT be Disappointed… I PROMISE!

I love this place. I have 2 dogs that are like my children. Dr. Ariazand treats my babies like family. He is profesional and courteous. I have gone through lot of clinics I m so lucky to finally to finally found a clinic that my babies can call home. Thank you Doc you a lifesaver.

So my review is based off my multiple visits to Dr Zand. I was originally recommended to this clinic. My first visit was very nice. The lady working at the front was very polite and sat us to be waiting to see the doctor. Dr. Zand introduced himself and was very polite as well. Our puppy got her first shots and Dr. Zand did it so quickly and carefully, my puppy didnt even notice she got a shot. It was really pretty cool to see.
We took her in on all the scheduled times for her shots and I always had a good experience.
I went on another occassion where my puppy Started limping off one foot when she woke up from a nap one day. I quickly took her to the Clinic the next day and Dr. Zand started examining my puppy. He identified that nothing was broken. He started touching her paws and she started flinching. He then asked what we did the day it started hurting. I told him that we went on a walk and she was trying to run around like crazy. she was running while we were just walking. The doctor explained to me that she scrapped the bottom of her paw raw. He gave me some medicine to help with her heal quickly. She was all good in a couple days.
In the end, I’ll just say this. I was originally going to come to Pico Veterinary clinic for one trip. I had such a good experience, this is now my Doctor for my puppy and I drive 30 mins to come here. And its totally worth it.

Love love love Dr. Zand and his whole staff! They’re super-​competent, gentle, and tell it like it is.
He provides very thorough care, letting you know what’s up with every step of the process, and is also affordable. I will never take my pet anywhere else! They are wonderful!
In short, Dr. Zand is very professional, knowledgeable, kind, and they genuinely care about my dog.

I THOUGHT I had a really pleasant experience, and I must say, AFFORDABLE clinic visit in getting my kitty immunized and get all his travel papers done.
The visit went great, and I left giving them a mental 5– star.

Time came for the airplane ride, and the Dr had advised me to give my kitty an entire 10g pill for the plane ride, stating it would only cover 4 – 6 hrs, and since our day of travel was looking more like 8, he’d throw in an extra 2 pills, one for the way there and one for the way back.
Everything went smoothly, gave him the pill, and 6 hours later, we checked in on him (he was under our seat) to see how he was doing. He had an eye film covering more than half his eye, and he seemed really distraught, and would fidget, then stop breathing and moving. We just figured he was still drugged up.
Two hours later, we’re home, kitty’s the same. We let him out of his carrier and he looked DRUNK, couldn’t walk without falling down, his eye film was still not looking good, and he wasn’t acting normal at all. Obviously still drugged. At this point it had been over 8 hours, so we’re getting a little worried. Thankfully, I had a wonderful vet from back home in Chicagoland that I gave a call to, and he tells me that he should have only had HALF a pill, not a full one as I was prescribed by Pico, that a full one is recommended for a 25 lb DOG! Who knows, had I given him the second pill I probably would have killed him!
We gave him the pill at 8 am, he wasn’t back to normal til the next morning, so 24 hours later. =X
SO… BE CAREFUL!!! I never do these reviews, but I cannot believe he prescribed twice as much as he should have!
