24 Hour Fitness Super Sport

Katie teaches a great and enjoyable Pop Pilates class Wednesday mornings at 8 am. She has a wonderful upbeat attitude! This is my favorite class, not only because I enjoy her teaching, but because I am gaining strength, flexibility, endurance, and balance. This is a not to miss class!

They should rename this club can’t get right. Seems there is always some reason it has to shut down from water to electricity. I will take a gym that’s open on a regular basis over a gym that kicks you out every other day. I would suggest driving a little further to not waste your time.

I’ve been working out here for the past couple of days. The place is nice although somewhat crowded most of the time. Some of the equipment is a bit dated. I like the fact that you get towels as you walk in. I’m a cal family fitness member and there you get no towels but you child care is free. Here at 24 hour fitness child care is $ 5 every time! They are also doing construction in the mall where this joint is so getting to the place and parking your car is somewhat affected. But overall the place is nice as I said and if I lived here I’d probably be joining. I like this place.

The membership people purposely mislead me with my membership and I had to pay about $ 200 for the 4 weeks that I used the gym.
I am a student so I only come to to San Diego in the summer and over breaks. My dad had been a member here for over 2 years and when I walked in to talk to membership they told me I could freeze and unfreeze my account whenever I wanted. Also since my dad was a member, she could waive the initial membership fee to join. I paid the first and last month upfront. I used the gym for he 3 weeks I was there over summer and then froze my account. I came back for winter break and unfroze and refroze my account after a week.
I later checked my card charges and saw that the initial membership fee charged and I called and now I have used up my first and last month since you can only freeze your account after 4 months of unfreezing, something I was never told when joining.
I called confused why I was charged an initial membership fee when the person said she would waive it, and they said that its part of contract to pay.
Ultimately I feel extremely manipulated and will not be joining this or any other 24 hour fitness ever agin.

Outstanding place to come and work out at! Not to mention the staff is super nice and encouraging! I was just putting my stuff away in the free lockers they provide which is totally awesome because I always lose my locks lol. And the staff member noticed my protein and asked if I just bought it. When I told him I’ve had it for a while and will be needing some more soon, he made me aware that there’s a sale going on till the end of May to get more supplements! Check that out! It’s a one stop shop! Doesn’t get any better than that!

This place is such a hassle! You have to park about 10 minutes away and the front desk staff tried to give me a «free» water bottle but then wanted 5 phone numbers of my friends. No thanks! It’s not worth it and nothing is free! I went to the Body Pump class on Thurs May 12 and the instructor was over 20 minutes late! What’s the point in showing up to a class if you can’t even get the benefit of the whole workout? Avoid this place!!!

This review is the poor layout of the gym especially the functional training area which now is crowded because of the huge contraption they put for people that lift. Although the outdoor area SHOULD be an alternative, the construction and the fact that people don’t pick up after themselves makes it difficult to workout. Also the room where classes are held there should be more time blocks where people can go in and workout with being rushed by people who show up 45 mins prior to class. I have to come to this location because of the convenience so 24 should try to make it convenient for people as their mission states.

Seriously all the complaints I see are for the parking, which really has nothing to do with 24 Hr Fitness but rather with the mall itself. This is one of the better 24 HR fitness I’ve been to, very clean and free towels. Clean showers, unless its peak after work time where you see the usual women’s hair all over like most women do. But it’s still clean. The Kid’s club is why I come. My kids are 2 and 3 and they are almost used to it now. I can kind of get an hour workout. The people who work here are great! The club itself is super clean, and they have basketball court and a giant slide. The only thing I wish they did was give you an actual pager like the one at restaurants. Because I like to listen to music, I don’t always hear my name over the PA. If you do come during the peak hours (5−7Pm) then space is a bit limited for the weights and mat space. But that happens at any gym. So truly nothing much to complain about.

I did a 3-​day free trial and they called me several times a day to get me to join. Once I joined the customer service ended.
I upgraded my membership when this location opened so I could come utilize this facility.
They make u pay an initiation fee even though I had recently paid one to join at the local, sport level. They weren’t upfront about this but it wasn’t a big deal.
They are regularly out of towels despite workers just hanging around (what do they do?).
This gym had a power outage for several days and they gave no notice to members. I showed up and saw a sign they were closed. I called there next several days to see if they opened and their phones didn’t work, so I called other 24s who didn’t know if they reopened, or said they did when they didn’t. Why wouldn’t they email members letting them know?
They have occasionally cancel classes, a reason some members are members, without warning.
A light in the women’s bathroom has been out for THREE MONTHS, so one of the 7 showers is out of service, which is irritating when there’s a line of 10 – 15 ladies at one time in the morning who are trying to get to work on time. I have asked 4x about this and am told no female tech can fix it so they aren’t fixing it, deposits my suggestion of coming at 2 am when there isn’t a crowd, or putting up signs stating it will be closed at a certain time.
Construction began in the parking lot without adequate warning which was fine when we could park near the original lot. Earlier this year I showed up and started walking the typical way and it was closed. I ran into 10 members trying to find the gym. Luckily kind construction workers helped us, but members were on different levels of the mall, completely lost due to lack of warning or signage. On my way back to my car there were more lost members so I called 24 and suggested they have signs and email members. He rudely said they do have signs.
It’s been months and I had to park in a new location this morning with the hope of getting to a class and still aren’t signs that direct members from the various parking lots or many avenues in the mall.
While the gym offers many amenities, the machines often have broken TVs or sound and sometimes are out of order and it’s super busy at almost all times. It’s worth looking into another gym.

Been coming here for years and it’s just been getting exponentially worse! I’m an NPC fitness competitor and now use this location as a secondary gym rather than my primary.
Out of all the gyms in SD this one’s got the poorest management, and the rudest «gym goers» who will hoard equipment, have zero gym etiquette and will not follow any of the rules posted. Be prepared to deal with entitled crossfitting jerks who will try to claim equipment for their «circuit» and tell you you «can’t» use it. I was once grabbed by a man here too a few months ago after he wanted some advice from an ab workout I was doing.
I’ve brought these issues to management and nothing has been resolved. Ive been meaning to write a review for some time now since the facility itself is nice, and the equipment is new, but I’ve unfortunately been having the weirdest experiences with the male guests here from time to time. I would never recommend this location especially with the construction and nearly all parking blocked off.

I am a member at another gym but a friend of mine goes here and wanted me to get a membership. I got the 3 day pass to try it because why would anyone sign up without trying it out first, duh. The first two days were good– Ryan and George are the best! Then on the third day I was checked in by Cameron, who is a complete jerk. He probably assumed I was trying to sneak in and rudely asked me if I was going to sign up. When I said I have a guest pass he rolled his eyes and gave me so much attitude. While I was standing there he also gave his coworker next to him attitude and talked degradingly to her when she asked him a question. From what I hear Cameron is actually a manager. That’s scary because he has no managerial behaviors at all. I’m not surprised there are so many bad reviews on him. You’d think after all of these poor reviews they would do something about him. Guess not. He’s the one thing holding me back from becoming a member, so good going dude.
3 stars because Ryan and George are awesome and super motivational people.

So I’m new to the area and this gym is my favorite location to go to. Initially, I was going to check it out with my friend but she talked me into getting a membership. For a person who truly wants to become fit but hate working out, I have been very consistent in my visits to the gym. The staff there are very nice and I feel there is a nice selection of equipment to use. It does get busy some times, but it happens at every gym.
I did sign up for trainer sessions and they are doing wonders for me! My trainer is Clarissa and she is amazing! She is attentive to what I want to accomplish and that extra motivation to keep me going. But, not going to lie, trainer sessions can cost a pretty penny.
Otherwise, the facility is really nice with an indoor pool and a large outdoor workout area. When it is busy, it does get a bit stuffy inside so it is nice to go outside. Plus I really enjoy that they have towels for you to use if you forget to bring yours.
They even have a children’s area so guests can drop off their kids there.

Newly constructed Super Sport — indoor swimming pool, co-​ed sauna/​steam. Included towel service. Locker room is nice.
Single story, but large with an outdoor workout area too. Pretty new equipment throughout.
Currently construction at U.T.C. makes parking a bit of a hassle. Even when the lot in front of the gym is open, it can be difficult to get a parking spot right near the gym, but a little walk never hurt any exerciser.
This gym has pretty much everything you could want or need for exercise. Indoor basketball court.
Nice crowd, including a lot of what appear to be UCSD students, nice staff, nice trainers. I don’t notice too many serious exercisers, but it takes all kinds.
Gym can get a little crowded 5 — 7pm on weekdays.

This 24 hour was great until it wasn’t. I’ve been a member for almost 20 years.
I’m sure a membership cap isn’t in their vocabulary, but at points during prime time, it’s becoming a fire hazard. I have about a two square foot area workout in before I bump into someone.
They’ve rearranged the weights layout, now people are three deep when trying to use free weights. It’s a serious problem. I would love to hear their rationalization.
Why are there so many cardio machines in a city like San Diego? It’s because cardio equipment sells memberships.
I could go on and on, but I won’t. This is just a warning for new members considering this spot, look elsewhere if you plan on getting a nice workout in to end your day.

I moved to San Diego a couple of months ago, and this has now become my go-​to super sport. My favorite part about this gym has to be the outside turf area! I love having the option to workout outdoors with all the provided equipment… who wouldn’t want to be outdoors in this awesome SD weather?! The inside of the gym is relatively clean, but it’s a bit crammed in my opinion. They have tons of cardio machines that definitely take up a lot of space. I also love that they have a «gym etiquette» sign that reminds people to be courteous to others. The staff is friendly and overall, it’s a good place to workout. Just beware of construction — parking can be super tight during peak hours and keep in mind that you’re sharing parking with all the Westfield shoppers.

I have been going to this gym for 5 years now, even as an Active. If there was a closer gym, I would go there. I would have to say, it has gone down hill significantly under new management. Yes they put money into new equipment, but they spend NOTHING on maintenance of their current equipment. There has been equipment broken for over 2 years at this Super Sport. How could this be allowed? This just shows their lack of commitment to the customer. Here’s a list of things that are currently broken: almost ALL of the headphone jacks on the cardio machines, drinking fountains, pull-​up/​dip bar, and pins on some of the machines. Also, 24 cares more about members who pay EXTRA for their classes then regular members, they get priority, and all the weights are outside (hardly gets used) rather than inside (where there are more people and need).
Here is a suggestion: Have the employees walk around the gym to talk with their customers and inspect machines instead of just standing there folding towels. This is called Customer Service and PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE. 24 does not believe in this; once you walk into the exercise area the funk just hits your nose, and there has been multiple leaks and gym closures. Don’t waste your time talking to the manager, I did, and nothing happened. They are only interested in getting more members. Oh, there is only one incline leg press machine… ugh.
The only Plus is the outdoor exercise area and some of the trainers.

Why can’t Santa Monica’s Super Sport be this nice?! This place is lightyears ahead of the location up in LA. Cleanliness trumps everything; the gym floor, locker room, showers, sauna, steam room. This place even has a outdoor workout area and a mini turf track for those agility people.
The only downside right now is that they are reconstructing the mall so you have to park and follow the signs to the entrance. It might be inconvinent for those who recently got injured as the walk maybe tough but hopefully they can implement a workaround for those people.

This gym is 10 times better than what it was when I first joined. it used to be a very small old gym. Now there’s an outdoor workout space, bigger group fitness room, a cycle room, pool, and a basketball court. This is the first 24 hour I joined and the only one I pay for, so I don’t have access to the others.
This gym, as I’m sure the others are, is always crowded at the peak hours. Which is before 8pm and after 5pm. I’m not a fan of being at the gym when every machine is taken, so I have to plan accordingly. I typically come here early on weekends. The worst part of being a member at this gym is the group fitness classes. The impacted classes require a ticket, which they hand out an hour prior to the class start time. You can pay $ 1 per class that you want to be automatically put on a list that guarantees you a ticket. Otherwise, you just have to come to the gym an hour before class and hope to get one. I don’t know about you but for a busy person, spending 2 hours at the gym isn’t favorable. I never experienced that at LA Fitness so it was news to me, when I joined here.
Recently, they have a construction project that has taken out the whole parking lot right in front of it. I’ve asked and this construction will last over a year. Parking was hard to find on a regular day but even more so now. Again, why I only come early on weekends prior to the mall opening. I tried coming later in the evening after 7pm hoping for less of a crowd but The they were closed due to some plumbing issues. It’s just not ideal to have so many hurdles to go to the gym.

This place has become a joke. This is no longer a «24 hour fitness» in my book.
1. Constant water leaking problems, either from the pool or Arclight (or other sources that they don’t tell us about): The gym has been closing at random times in the past few months.
2. Members are not aware the gym is closed until they get to the door! At least find a way or solution to notify members, if there are internal issues that causes frequent closures. Not everyone checks the Facebook page. Walking to the door is not a big deal in terms of energy expenditure, but wasting time is not favorable for busy people.
This gym already lost a lot of members due to the parking situation with the on-​going construction. If they can’t find a permanent solution to their issues (or there is no possible feasible solution), I have a feeling they will lose a lot more.

Been a member of the Carlsbad Sport (recently upgraded to a «super sport») location since before it was built and have a killer membership deal which is why I’ve never upgraded. I think it’s ludicrous that they want me to pay an additional $ 39.99 for towels and a few other «amenities» that don’t come with a sport location. Currently, for those of you that aren’t aware, UTC is under major construction so the parking is an absolute nightmare. I was lucky and found parking in 5 minutes. I was given a day pass since I hadn’t worked out here before but the lady who checked me in so kindly informed me that if I came back it would be $ 25 to work out… you’ve gotta be kidding me… SO expensive.
Anyways, equipment was abundant, didn’t have to really fight anyone off (shocking!; being that it was a saturday at 11am). Cross fit type area is outside which was so hot. Other than that, good work out. Wouldn’t ever pay to upgrade. Don’t see the cost to benefit ratio being anywhere worth it.
