Great group of people! I’ve had plenty of root canals (I’m sure I’ve personally paid for the previous guys yacht) and this was by far the best experience ever. Right from the beginning I was kept informed, treated kindly and helped all through the process. Scheduling was quick (thank you thank you… I’m a big baby when it comes to being in pain) and Courtney kept me informed of all expenses and insurance coverage. Dr Tengonciang did an excellent job with very little discomfort (let’s face it a shot is a shot, but he has a nice touch and I hardly felt it,). He has a great «bedside» manner, put me at ease right away and kept me informed all during the procedure.

We’ve all heard stories about the dreaded root canal, my experience had none of them, so far. Courtney was very friendly and professional. Jayson explained every step of the process and made sure I was feeling no pain. Very little discomfort afterwards. For what it is, great experience.

Had a great experience here getting a much needed root canal. The staff was very professional and extremely nice, especially Courtney! She helped me with all my questions and made me feel at ease. I would recommend this place to anyone, they will make you feel right at home and at ease!

I was referred to Dr. Tengonciang by my regular dentist. I had tooth pain for months and after all other options, my dentist determined I needed a root canal. I am not a fan of dentist, or any doctor’s offices, really. I have always heard horror stories about root canals but I am happy to stay that my root canal process (that I had done today!) went so smoothly. Dr. T & team were super friendly, professional, and really worked to put me at ease. The doctor was great at explaining everything, went over my before & after xrays with me and let me know exactly what he was doing and why. After just a few hours, my tooth already feels SO much better.
Hopefully, I won’t need to visit this office any time soon, but if & when I do, I know I will feel comfortable with Dr. Tengonciang.

Had an awesome appointment today. The best dental office i’ve ever been too– THEY ARE SO EFFICIENT! Dr Jason was nice and made the appointment super calming and I couldn’t say enough about how great Cindy and Courtney were. If you need a root canal, you are doing a disservice to yourself if you don’t come here! Thanks dr Jason!!!

PROFESSIONAL! Dr. Tengociang will NOT do something if you don’t need it. He takes his time to explain the process and why he should or shouldn’t do a root canal. His first priority is to save the tooth and have it as natural as possible. The staff is very polite and make you feel calm. Definitely recommend this place, even for young kids!

It has been 8 weeks since my root canal and things could not have gone better. My regular dentist told me I needed a root canal because I had a deep cavity and since he does not do those, I had to go see a specialist and sent me over to this office. When I called to schedule the appointment I had several questions because I hate going to see the dentist, and they were very patient with me and answered all of my questions very thoroughly. So when I finally arrived on the big day, the appointment started with courtney, who was very friendly and cheerful, giving me a full cost breakdown BEFORE they even brought me back. I dont have insurance so everything was explained about cost before treatment started, which is a pleasant change from my prior experience at other dental offices. Once they had me in the chair they took an xray with this nifty Hitech machine and I had the exam. Dr. Jayson explained everything he saw on my xray and that I did indeed need the root canal. He then explained the whole procedure to me before even getting started too and it immediately calmed my nerves. He was very gentle and I was actually surprised how quick the appointment went by. I was very impressed by how well him and his assistant worked together. Him and Cindy were passing root canal instruments back and forth so quickly and efficiently without ever saying a word. Very impressive! After the appointment they gave me some medication to take home and even got a call from their office the next day to see how I was doing. My tooth has never felt better and had no problems since the appointment. I was very surprised by how easy and actually how painless this whole process went. I definitely give my highest recommendations to the doctor and his staff!

I got an estimate of $ 135 over the phone and at the office. They then said cash or check and its $ 135. If you pay via credit card it is $ 266. Aren’t credit card fees like 3%? That’s nearly 100% mark up for credit card? That’s offensive. I walked out due to principal. I offered to pay the 3% but not nearly 100% extra. Good luck with that business model.

Had the most amazing root canal last week. Courtney explained all my insurance benefits and was so amazing explaining the procedure to me, and was so pretty:) dr t and Cindy were very gentle. I feel asleep during the procedure and woke my self up snoring:)) I would would tell anybody to see dr t!

I had a root canal that was done some years back (not by Dr. Tengociang) It started to fail and got infected… it wasn’t pretty. My regular dentist took one look at it and said I needed it pulled and/​or pulled and replaced with an implant– which was going to cost me a little under 4K! OUCH!
I went to Dr. Tengociang for a second opinion. And thank God I did. To make a long story short, he was able to save my tooth and forward 3weeks later, no infection and no pain! Happy camper :)

FANTASTIC IN EVERY WAY! I had a root canal that was like no other. Courtney, the receptionist was delightful and efficient. Cindy, his assistant, was also efficient and made every effort to make sure I was comfortable. And Dr. Tengonciang was like no other. He explained, in detail, every step of the procedure. There were no surprises, except that there was NO PAIN during the procedure. The only pain I experienced was the pain I felt when I didn’t wait to eat and chewed my lip along with my sandwich. (They warned me not to eat until the medication wore off – my fault!) One day later, I have NO PAIN! I am serious when I say, «There is absolutely nothing to fear if Dr. Tengonciang does your root canal. Honest!

To start, Dr. Tengoncliang and his staff are professional, friendly, and the root canal went well. I have to say, though, that it was not as amazing and pain free as other reviews had led me to believe it would be. I certainly was never close to falling asleep.
I think your experience has a lot to do with which tooth is infected, how far along it is, and your previous experiences with dental work. Back teeth are more difficult and some people have lower pain thresholds.
It cost me $ 1500+ for my back molar and I still need to get a crown with my regular dentist. If you don’t have dental insurance, like me, I recommend going to someone else that will be a few hundred dollars cheaper. I had gone here b/​c of timing, location, and the stellar reviews.
Again, it was not a bad experience. It just wasn’t great enough to keep me from next time waiting for a similarly well-​reviewed dentist that is cheaper.

The absolute best experience ever with any dental work I have ever had done.
1. They use mouth piece that helps keep your mouth open so that your jaws not extremely sore.
2. They use a dam, which basically just clamps around the tooth they are working on and a nitrile or latex film covers the rest of your mouth. No more water everywhere and the feeling of drowning if they don’t aspirate the water out.
3. Extremely friendly. I felt comfortable enough to ask every question that popped into my head the whole time I was there. They also accommodated my schedule, which is always a plus. The receptionist and the assistant was also extremely nice. They always had a smile on and you can just carry conversations with anyone there like they’re a friend that you’ve known for a while.
4. Extremely conservative. I went in to have 3 root canals done on 3 molar teeth. One of them had the possibility of not needing it (told to me by Dr. Tengonciang, while everyone else just said I needed it). He wanted to try cleaning out the cavity first to see if maybe we can get away with just a filling. It turned out that I needed the root canal too, but it is nice to see someone being conservative instead of just doing everything under the sun to make a quick buck.
5. Extremely gentle. At one point, Dr. Tengonciang warned me that he will need to be a bit rough on the next part. I nodded and waited for it. I actually even fell asleep during the part that he had to be «rough» to get the root canal done. His definition of rough was more gentle than my normal dentist being gentle.
6. He was extremely quick and thorough. It has been about 4 months since I got my work done and I haven’t had an issues. They also gave a complete guide on what to do after the root canal and gave all the prescriptions along with some ibuprofen and acetaminophen. I wish I can have him do all my dental work, not just root canals. Just a quick hint, don’t do 3 molar teeth root canals in 1 sitting. It is possible and I did it, but I wish I spread it over 2 visits. I don’t think I would have made it though if it was done by someone else. Pretty sure I would have just given up after the second one.
Honestly, I would rather pay full price out of pocket for Dr. Tengonciang to do my dental work than have my insurance cover someone else. I have had 1 bad root canal experience with another dentist before and would never cheap out to deal with that again.

First I’ll start by saying I had to dig up my old Unilocal account information JUST TO POST THIS REVIEW.
But Dr. Tengonciang and his staff definitely deserve this. Going into this I’ve NEVER had a root canal and got 11 different stories from family and friends varying from torture to a trip to the DMV. I’m happy to say they were all wrong! Courtney greeted me and totally set me at ease from the moment I walked into the office. Cindy was so friendly, I forgot at this point that I was in there for some serious work. Then Dr. T walked in and introduced himself as «Jayson.» Big points for the first-​name basis there.
Then we got down to business and, well, I can’t really tell you much about the procedure itself. I fell asleep about 3 times and only woke up when Dr. T or Cindy were going along through the process. Before I knew it, they were done and I was on my way. NO PAIN AT ALL! Let me say that again, NO PAIN, NOTHING! The major root canal surgery was done and it was such a positive experience, I’m typing this up right now. If you need to get work done, by all means give the business to his office. You won’t regret you did!!! I promise! They are top notch and we’re so lucky to have him here in Clairemont!

This office is amazing! Dr and Cindy are great! I was afraid of having a root canal done, but Courtney helped calm my fears and explained the whole process to me. I would definitely recommend this office to friends/​family!

No one wants to hear they need an emergency root canal at 36 weeks pregnant, but if you hear you got referred by your regular dentist to Dr. Tengonciang, you are in luck! No, I’m not going to say an invasive dental visit was fun by any means, but if you need to have a root canal and infection taken care of asap, he will get it done quickly, efficiently and be really gentle and kind about it. The Dr. and his assistant also reassured my sensitive and concerned, pregnant self that the baby wasn’t getting any of the meds in the mouth numbing or internal solutions, and their x-​ray practices were also safe for the baby (only a handheld xray wand was beamed at my jaw/​mouth and double-​layered a guard on my body.) They also fit me into the schedule very quickly, even for my follow-​up visit the next week… so I can get the processes all taken care of, before my newborn arrives.

Going to the dentist freaks me out. I came here on a referral to have a root canal done. I didn’t feel anything, everyone was super nice. Everything was explained while he did the procedure and he even gave me some Tylenol and Advil to take home, which I didn’t need. I highly recommend going here for any work that needs done

Highly, highly recommend Dr. Tengonciang. I was treated this morning for an emergency root canal. I was in so much pain my general dentist called Dr. Tengonciang’s office and they squeezed me in. (On a Friday, valentines day, and a half working day). I was so grateful. I arrived and Courtney was not only very friendly but beautiful. She answered my questions and made me feel very comfortable. The doctor and his assistant were equally impressive. I could have taken a nap through the root canal. There was such great instruction and gentle care I could have dozed off. This has been the best experience I have ever encountered. Thank you to these fabulous people and the great work you provided. I hope I won’t be back but if I do I know I am in good hands. I will refer everyone I know!!!

Dr. Tengonciang and his staff are great! I had a dead tooth that needed a root canal and internal bleaching and they made the process super easy. After the root canal I had to return three times to get the bleach changed (this is standard) and each time they were great about last second appointment changes due to my sporadic work schedule. This was my first experience outside of the normal family dentist and I 100% recommend them and will definitely return should I need any work done down the road.

I was referred to Dr. Tengonciang by my dentist and am very happy. My first ever root canal treatment went without a scratch: Receptionist Courtney is very sweet. She greeted me with a great smile when I came in and helped me set up all necessary paperwork. Dr. Tengonciang and his assistant did a superb job. He initially educated me on the process, showed me what he intended to do and began working. I did not feel any pain. The entire procedure was easy, smooth and professional. At the end Dr. showed me an xray of the tooth and explained what was done.
I highly recommend them to anybody who needs dental treatment.
