Top-​of-​the-​line CPA and Tax services are provided by Akore. Being new business owners, she guided us with the proper instructions and prepared our documents appropriately.
She even has great patience for all the newbie and concerning questions an owner would have. Helpful all around!

I used Akore to do my taxes last year (2012). I was a new homeowner, renting some of the bedrooms in the house. She did a great job, was easy to talk with (on the phone and by email). We reviewed the tax return in person in her office and on a Saturday morning since I couldnt meet her during the week. Overall, I was quite satisfied.
This is what grants her more than a single star.
This year, I was going to go with her again since I was satisfied last year. Unfortunately the service was vastly different. I can only make assumptions that she is overloaded and cannot properly take care of her customers anymore.
It was impossible to talk to her on the phone. Her email communications were contradictory (2 consecutive sentences in the same email that contradict each other). I had a bunch of questions on how to report some things in the way that is the most to my advantage, but her only response was that there was only one way and she speaks the «truth» (whatever that means).
Since I rent bedrooms in my own house, and the law doesnt precisely define how to quantify the split between rented vs owner occupied, there is some wiggle room there. Ideally, one would compute the return numbers for different ratios and find out the best ratio. Well, she wouldnt want to do that. She wanted to charge me $ 50 per iteration.
Overall, this year (and she stated that herself), she just wanted to report number in boxes, without discussion. Too bad, turbotax is great at that and for much cheaper.
So there I went, with turbotax. I was able to change the ratio for my rented rooms vs owner occupied, on the fly, and see the results right away.
I will not be back.

I first met Akore while I was taking a Real Estate Taxation course at UCSD. I really enjoyed her teaching style as it was clear, concise and pragmatic.
