AIDS Walk & Run San Diego

Did this run today! It was great. The corse takes you through Balboa Park with hardly any people there. There were a couple of hills and it was my first 10k but I would do it again. Would recommend it to anyone looking to try a 10k. Plus your money supports a good cause.

I have been HIV for 29 years and I am 53. I am participating in the 2015 AIDS WALK. I am also seeking donations of support. I use 4 of the services that your contribution will go to. Love this organization. After having a family member die from HIV in the 90’s it is amazing to see how awareness has brought about change for those infected. Keep supporting the Aids Walk & Run!

My first 10k run ever. Loved it! I had a wonderful time — it truly was a feeling everyone should experience. The route was perfect and I loved running around the city. The people were great and it really just felt like everyone was united as a community — it was awesome! I will definitely be participating in this again, such a great cause and a great thing to do with friends!

I participated in this event in 2009 and would do it again! Its for a great cause and gets people of all ages out and about. You can either walk/​run a 5k or run 10k through Balboa Park. Its a tad bit hilly but manageable. Parking is easy, they have designated lots and shuttles. The community spirit is great and keeps you running!

I have loyally participated in AIDS Walk since…2002? It is a great walk around Hillcrest and through Balboa Park. You can run or walk the 5K and there is also a 10K run. It is a very lively event with an outdoor expo and quilts on display. The registration fee is cheap and you can get donations from friends and family too.
I love this event and will do it as long as it exists in San Diego!

I chip in a couple bucks to AIDS Walk every year. This year I forced myself to wake up at 6:00am on a Sunday morning to actually participate in this annual gallivant around Balboa Park, Bankers Hill, and Hillcrest with thousands of other charitable folks. No doubt that this one the finest charity athletic events in San Diego.

Wait– what? Was that review not long enough? Oh, fine. Let me elaborate on what each star is for:
Star #1:
For the hundreds of thousands of dollars raised for dozens of agencies that provide HIV/​AIDS-​related services in the San Diego area.
Star #2:
For the wonderful sense of community that comes from seeing San Diegans get out of their cars and organize for a common cause.
Star #3:
For the abundant free swag that I took home from the booths belonging to the AIDS Walk corporate sponsors (one of which is Unilocal– nicely played!).
Star #4:
For the most entertaining people and animal watching around. From grannies with Chihuahuas to kids on trikes, there are always entertaining characters to gawk at.
Star #5:
For brunch and bottomless mimosas at Baja Betty’s afterward. Enough said.

I’m going to compare 3 walks San Francisco, San Diego and Los Angeles. I rolled over 5 stars because of the work that will get done from the money raised. Each walk has it’s highlights and all three were fun this year. Due to size limitations please search for AWSF and AWLA in my reviews section.
AIDS walk SD
ROUTE: Nice little (5k) jaunt through Hillcrest and Balboa Park.
WEATHER: The best of the three cities every year! Not to hot, not too cold. The early start time (8:20am) helps on warm days.
SWAG: The weakest of the three. Not much support from the «corporate» types. Many of the local shops had water, fruit and baked goods available. It was hard to get a bottle of water. Most of the stations were handing out small cups of juice or water as if we were running a marathon and couldn’t carry a bottle. NOTE to the AWSD people: It is nice that you feed your volunteers a «thank you» lunch… please move it some where other than the finish line. (or open it to walkers too). Oh and please get rid of the «OBEY ME» t-​shirts. It’s a real bad joke.
PEOPLE: SD has the friendliest crowds of walkers. Teams have their home-​made banners and custom t-​shirts and the stories told along the walk are fantastic! I love SD people SOOOOO nice!
STAND OUT: Best use of dogs! More folks brought their «best friends» along than I saw in SF or LA. At first I thought, more people in SD have dogs. After all SD is the least urban and has the best outdoor life. All my SD lesbian friends own dogs. Can’t say that in SF or LA! After some post coffee thought I’m gonna say it’s because SD is only 5 kilometers long, a more dog friendly distance.
