Alaska Airlines Flight Path Grill

It’s not a bad snack bar at all. It’s a great place to sit and take a break from the aircraft, exhibits, pictures, replicas, models, and rides in the museum.
It’s located on the observation deck where the lucky snacker can simultaneously observe both FWY 163 and the brightly painted airliners on short final to Lindbergh Field’s runway 27. They make a nice air show.
And not surprisingly, the food is of «air show» variety and quality. Nachos, chili dogs, burgers (It’s a grill !) cookies, pizza slices, salads and more are available, along with wine ($ 6) and a nice selection of beers ($ 4 and $ 5), including some local products. Most meals run $ 5 -$ 8.
It’s neither overwhelming nor underwhelming. It’s outdoors, so El Nino may alter your snack plans. It’s really nice to have a snack bar out there on the observation deck.
It’s A-​OK.

Who knew that the San Diego Air & Space Museum had its own snack bar?
A few months ago, on my last visit to the museum, I was given a coupon for a free cookie with purchase of a combo at the Alaska Airlines Flight Path & Grill. As I was getting hungry during my visit, I figured I’d take advantage of the coupon.
I went with their daily special of a chili dog combo (chili dog, chips, and canned soda) for $ 5.50… too bad there wasn’t anything special about the chili dog. The hot dog was on the puny side, and the chili was a bit watery. (Then again, given how the place is sponsored by Alaska Airlines, maybe the chili dog is on par with what they serve on the airline.) At least the cookie wasn’t disappointing.
In addition to hot dogs/​chili cheese dogs, the grill serves up burgers (classic and veggie), pizza (individual slices and whole), grilled chicken sandwiches, and even a Caesar salad. Prices aren’t too bad — they range from under $ 6 to $ 8 for the combos. There’s also beer and wine offered ($ 4 – 5 for the beer, $ 6 for the wine).
If anything redeems the grill, it would be the outside dining location. The observation deck faces the 163, and on a nice day, you can enjoy the sun while watching the traffic pass by. It can be hard to get a seat though, especially on the days when the museum has free admission for San Diego residents.
Not great, but at least it fills you up.
